The Making Of A Swiftie | Taylor Swift Grammy Icon Sessions Mashup First Listen
We’re taking a little break from our Journey to the Eras Tour… but that doesn’t mean we’re taking a break from Taylor Swift. 👀
After recently watching Taylor’s full GRAMMY Icon Sessions interview and her incredible piano mashup, Rick, Robert AND Corrina are back to react to the performance and they were NOT prepared for what they were about to see.
This episode picks up just minutes after we finished watching the Icon Sessions interview, so the boys are coming into this reaction with Taylor very fresh in their minds. Before we press play, we talk about what a mashup actually is, the songs Taylor brings together, and why this particular performance is so interesting.
Then Taylor sits down at the piano.
And everything changes.
Watching Taylor casually talk, laugh, smile, play piano, think through her arrangements and then effortlessly launch into an incredibly complicated mashup completely blew the guys away. And then she actually starts playing…
Their reactions only get more intense from there.
One of their biggest highlights was the transition from “August” into the “I Knew You Were Trouble” bridge, which we ended up replaying multiple times because Robert simply could not understand how effortless it sounded.
His biggest takeaway? Everything sounds like it was written to go together.
Except it wasn’t.
We also dive into Taylor’s completely reimagined version of “August,” including the changes to the melody, notes, tone and flow that make this stripped-down performance feel almost like an entirely different song.
And then, almost perfectly on cue, “All Too Well” enters the mix.
Since Rick and Robert haven’t experienced the full song yet, this gives them a little sneak peek at some of Taylor’s most devastating songwriting, especially the line:
“You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath.”
Yeah… that one got them.
We also take a quick detour into the infamous red scarf theory and the connection to Jake Gyllenhaal, including the absolutely perfect Spider-Man/Taylor Swift meme about how they both ended Jake with a bridge. 😂
By the end of the performance, the boys are essentially begging for this version to be available on Spotify and talking about how Taylor’s brain must work on an entirely different wavelength.
And honestly?
This is one of those performances where you can SEE the musicianship.
It’s not just the songwriting. It’s not just the vocals. It’s not just the piano playing.
It’s the ability to take multiple songs, completely rethink them, find connections between melodies and lyrics, rearrange them on the fly, and make the entire thing sound effortless.
For Rick and Robert, this was another major step in their journey toward understanding exactly why Taylor Swift has reached the level she has.
And by the end, they had one very simple conclusion:
Taylor deserves everything.
All the awards.
All the accolades.
All the love.
All the support.
Because performances like this make it very easy to understand just how much talent, creativity and work has gone into building the career she has today.

I love all of your reactions on this one... but the best thing is seeing Rick all in his feels, just singing along to I Knew It I Knew You... that is what gets me, because Rick is always effusive in his praise for Taylor, her lyrics, her melodies, her harmonies and the music. But, he's rarely just sitting there singing along, lost (it seems) in his own memories that Taylor is evoking in him. That is my favorite thing to happen when people hear music I love.
I’ve watched this at least a dozen times I cant stop
I truly think the guys would actually really enjoy the Eras Tour docuseries where you see her building these mashups. It's so fascinating how her mind works!
Yess I thnk so too! Rick has seen them on this channel but we're gonna do it again after Eras Tour. I think it'll give them both a cool perspective to see all of this, then Eras and then the docu. Kinda like the rest of swifties haha
Prince of Persia had me rolling 😂😂
LOLOLOLOLOLLLLLL
It was beautiful! She is amazing
Yeah, I don't think they'll survive the Eras mashups. I mean, did any of us? For all I know we all died dead and are just here gathering where the spirits meet the bones. 🫶
sorry! has the interview been posted yet?
nvm its sunday lol
So excited to see the interview video. You guys are so funny 😂 I’m so glad I came across your page on IG to start following you all here. I’ve loved seeing Robert and Rick’s journey of discovering all of Taylor’s songs and talent. 💕😊
Im so glad you found us too! Thank you for being here with us on this journey! It means the world to have so much love and support!!
Oh shit, I forgot about patreon on 🤦♀️ guess I'll be watching a 3rd time 😅🫶🏼🥰
WOW Oh my god it is so much fun seeing them recognize the songs!! This is easily my favorite reaction yall have done. I’m so glad they have already heard August and I knew it I knew you to catch the connections too! Ah. Sooo good guys 🫶🏻
Thank you so much!!! I was very impressed with them haha <3
3:37 YES WHALE
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OMGG I HAVE TO SHOW THEM THIS STILL
Rick has the best laugh 😂😂😂
What a great reaction !!!! Thanks 🫶🎹
Thank you so much!!!
What a great reaction! It was a very beautiful performance. I hope Taylor is going to released her eras tour acoustic songs on spotify or something lol All too well is such a gem. In order to better understand the hype behing the song, I recommend you to react first to the album original 2012 version, then to react to her grammy performance of this song, after there is the All too well 10 minutes version from the album Red (Taylor's version). She made a short film of this song with Sadie Sink from Stranger Things (Taylor directed the short film as she is directed her own music videos since 2019). The short film version of the song is a little bit different than the studio version. And she also made an smooth acoustic studio recorded but filmed version lol and this version is also very good, and since you like when she sings like that I think you will like this version. So there's plenty of All Too Well to listen if you want to! Personnally, I would LOVE to watch you react to all of the versions I mentionned! I can't wait to watch your next TS video!
Yall had me smiling, laughing and singing along with yall. Made up for a shit couple of days!!!!
So glad you enjoyed it! We had a good time with this one, the boys are really starting to like her on a different level and I love it!
Great reaction guys

You didn't miss it, sorry we put the mashup out first but the interview is out now!
So proud of the guys for recognizing the transitions!! Great reaction, you three!!
What a great reaction! I was excited to see this one. This mashup was my favorite…. *chef’s kiss*. Some of her best vocals in this performance. I agree we need the mashup put out. Take my money! Have a great day!
It was sooo good! The way her mind works is just crazy!!
