Rap Fans React to Taylor's Most DEVASTATING Song | My Tears Ricochet - Journey To The Eras Tour PT20
Rick and Robert are officially back on the Journey to the Eras Tour and this time, Taylor Swift is taking them to a FUNERAL. ⚰️
In Part 20 of our Journey to the Eras Tour, Rick and Robert react to Taylor Swift’s “My Tears Ricochet” from her 2020 album Folklore.
And they were NOT prepared for this one.
Before we press play, we talk about why “My Tears Ricochet” is such an important stop on the journey, the significance of Taylor Swift's infamous Track 5s, and the real-life context surrounding Taylor Swift’s masters and her complicated history with Big Machine Records.
Because while “My Tears Ricochet” can initially sound like a devastating breakup song, the deeper you get into the lyrics, the more you realize this song is about something much bigger: loss, betrayal, grief, anger, and the destruction of a relationship that once felt like family.
Then the song starts…
And about ten minutes in, Robert realizes exactly what Taylor is doing:
“This is literally a funeral.”
From there, we dive deep into Taylor’s storytelling, the haunting production, her ability to build an entire song around one central metaphor, and the incredible way she manages to make every lyric feel intentional.
Robert may have also found his new favorite Taylor Swift verse.
We break down the verse line by line, including the unforgettable “stones” metaphor and the different meanings behind gathering stones - some to throw, some to make a diamond ring.
Then we get to THAT bridge.
“I can go anywhere I want, just not home.”
The conversation around those lyrics leads us directly into another Taylor Swift song: “Father Figure,” which Robert would hear immediately after this recording.
And suddenly, “My Tears Ricochet” gives us an entirely different perspective on the person at the center of Taylor’s story and on just how deep the betrayal really goes.
By the end of the episode, we're asking:
Is “My Tears Ricochet” a breakup song?
A song about betrayal?
A song about losing someone you once trusted completely?
Or is it all of those things at once?
🔥 NEXT EPISODE:
This Sunday, we're continuing the journey with a special Patreon Exclusive episode where Robert reacts to “Father Figure” for the first time.
If “My Tears Ricochet” changed the way he looks at Taylor's fight for her masters… you're going to want to see what happens next.

Ok I am feeling a sisterhood with Corrine right now. I too am a huge Swiftie, love to dive deep, love the entendre, and we’re talking about the Queen of the bridge. So when I was about to give Rick his due shout out and props about his predictions of his feelings that he will go through while watching the eras tour—then he had to open his mouth about living in his house and giving Corrine shit about “you said this was your favorite bridge in the last song.” So, you’re about to get praise and as a wife of 17 years, you’re also gonna get a go stand in the corner. I say this constantly but to force a choice of a favorite when it comes to Taylor, albums, songs, or for the love of God, Bridges!!! the only correct answer to a fav is—the one I’m listening to, and to expect anything more …might as well be Sophie‘s choice. On a serious note. I just found you guys and I am binging and so entertained when the dough rolls in I will be subscribing at a higher level, but for the moment I did join and I will try and go watch your stuff on YouTube so that you get something worthwhile since I am getting to enjoy your hard work. Oh, I forgot to give Rick his praise so yes honey you will go on a roller coaster of emotion. Just a little sidenote I was able to go to the show live in my hometown of Indianapolis on 11/1/24. It was something I decided in October 2024 so relatively last minute and I paid an arm and a leg for the seat. I had to go alone because I couldn’t afford more than one seat and buying the ticket and the experience were life-changing. And I hate to say that because it sounds so silly, but it’s 100% true! So… there’s your praise, Rick . Way to clock that. But leave the gal alone and let her go crazy over her Swifty love.😝🫶🏻
You also need to tell them, the concept that this chorus points to each album: I didn't have it in myself to go with grace-State of Grace (RED) And you're the hero flying around, saving face- Superman (Speak Now) And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?- Look What You Made Me Do (reputation) Cursing my name-That's the Way I Loved You (Fearless) wishing I stayed-All You Had to Do Was Stay (1989) Look at how my tears ricochet-Teardrops on My Guitar-(Taylor Swift)
It's fun watching Robert slowly realize just what a wordsmith Taylor is. There is a pretty good reason she's in the songwriters Hall of Fame. She's a lyrical genius.
I wanna watch Robert's reaction of Father Figure ! This is my favorite song on The life of a Showgirl with Elizabeth Taylor
I also love watching her facial expressions in the Long pond sessions for this song. Heartbreaking.
Yes! I was going to say that - you can really see that raw emotion in the Lond Pond sessions.
I didn’t realize Taylor had her masters when TTPD was released, I thought she got her masters in April ish.
She got them back may 30th 2025 I believe
They are all my fav bridges too!
Ahhh Father Figure!! No hate to LGAD but Father Figure is amazing! 🤩
This is SO good on the eras tour, can’t wait
Jewels also signify her gold, platinum and diamond award-winning records. Great reaction.
The stones are also funeral related as it's Jewish tradition to leave stones on graves when you visit loved ones.
