This Is A Breakup Song?! | Dreams - A Tour Of Fleetwood Mac PT6
“DREAMS” JUST HITS DIFFERENT. 🌙
The Fleetwood Mac Tour continues with Part 6, and this time Robert is experiencing Stevie Nicks’ “Dreams” - a song he quickly discovers is MUCH more personal, complicated, and petty than he realized.
Before we even get to the reaction, we revisit the incredible second life “Dreams” found in 2020 thanks to Nathan Apodaca (aka Doggface208), whose viral Ocean Spray cranberry juice skateboard video sent the 1977 classic soaring back onto the charts more than 40 years after its release. The song originally reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its TikTok revival eventually pushed it back to No. 12.
We also catch up with what happened to Apodaca after becoming an overnight internet sensation and talk about how one completely effortless-looking video helped introduce “Dreams” to an entirely new generation.
Then Robert discovers something he somehow DID NOT KNOW:
“Dreams” is a breakup song.
And suddenly… the lyrics hit a little differently. 😂
We dig into Stevie Nicks’ writing and what makes her such a unique storyteller. She doesn’t always tell a story in a completely linear way; she creates a feeling, establishes a setting, gives you just enough detail, and lets the emotion fill in the rest.
That ambiguity is a huge part of what makes “Dreams” so powerful. There’s enough detail to understand what Stevie is feeling, but enough space for you to bring your own experiences to it.
And then there’s the MUSIC.
Lindsey Buckingham’s guitar work. Mick Fleetwood’s drums. John McVie’s bass. Christine McVie’s keyboards. Stevie’s vocals.
Everybody has a role, and somehow every piece fits together so effortlessly that the entire song feels like it’s floating.
We break down our favorite lyrics, Stevie’s metaphors, her vocal performance, and the moment that absolutely stood out to Robert:
“It’s only right that you should play the way you feel.”
We also talk about one of our favorite things about music in general: songs that sound light, effortless, or even comforting while carrying something incredibly heavy underneath.
And eventually, we get into the bigger picture of Fleetwood Mac’s story because this is yet another chapter in the band’s seemingly endless interpersonal drama. Except this time, the “beef” is happening between people who genuinely knew each other on an incredibly deep level.
We also have a bigger conversation about music, culture, childhood experiences, and how much we can learn from exposing ourselves to the music and traditions that shaped other people’s lives.
And finally, Robert delivers perhaps the perfect description of “Dreams”:
It’s a direct message… that’s only subtly petty.
But just petty enough to be felt. 😂
What did YOU think of “Dreams” when you first heard it? Did you know it was a breakup song? And do you hear the song differently once you know the story behind it?

Awesome reaction! Love this song. Been listening to it for as long as it has been out and like Robert, I never knew how petty it was either! I learn something from you guys every time. Thank you!
