Batavia: The Shipwreck That Turned Into a Nightmare Cult Ft. Bricky
Surviving a shipwreck is usually the end of the nightmare. For the passengers of the Batavia, it was just the beginning.
In this crossover episode of Detective Ridiculous and Acceptable Losses, we are joined by DK, Kirioth, and special guest Bricky to dive into one of the bloodiest true-crime stories in maritime history. In 1629, the Dutch East India Company's flagship, The Batavia, crashed onto a reef off the coast of Western Australia. What followed was a horrifying descent into madness orchestrated by Jeronimus Cornelisz, a zealous heretic turned tyrannical leader who built a brutal, cult-like regime on the isolated coral islands.

Ah I've heard of this as an Aussie. I was wondering why the word Batavia sounded familiar... fkn yikes man
Sometimes I feel like in sci-fi the Sol system simply means the shit out of luck system.
Great Episode, also glad about the preorder-update. Guess i am one of the „lucky“ few… My order is still chillin on „confirmed“.
I love this podcast lol You all should do the Jurassic Park novels
This could be easily one of those twilight episodes where just over a hill is a town with an abundance of food and water but they don’t find it and are just busy going absolutely insane and murderous.
"They won't say no, because of the implication." Bricky, are you hurting these people?
Keelhauling is even worse when you consider that (tw: horrific mutilation) unless the hull of the ship had recently been scrubbed clean, which was not often, the bottom of the ship was likely covered in barnacles, which have a bunch of wickedly sharp edges facing outward. So as you're getting dragged underneath the moving ship, trying to hold your breath and not drown, your entire body is being sliced all over by a biological underwater cheese grater and immediately rushed all over said cuts with an endless torrent of salt water. Try not to scream :)
We have yet to get to the horror and Jacobs is already such a prick that poor lady would rather chance catching a debilitating disease than simply interact with him. Well f*ck this is going to go swimmingly for all involved...
Just got my notification today that the founders pack arrived at the local delivery terminal! I specifically waited to order mine until the last moment to see how high of a number i could get!
*sends possum a beverage of their preference*
