I want to start a YouTube channel, and I would love your feedback!

Hi everyone!

I have been thinking about starting a YouTube channel focused on handheld consoles, emulation devices, Android gaming, and everything around this world.

But I do not want it to be just a generic review channel.

I would like to make something more useful, more specialized, and more connected with what this community actually wants to see.

That is why I want to ask you first.

Before starting, I would love to know what kind of content you would like to watch.

For example, would you prefer:

  • Regular console and handheld reviews

  • Performance tests with real games and emulators

  • Deep analysis of Android handhelds

  • Tutorials on how to configure emulators

  • Videos about opening consoles and checking the internal hardware

  • Upgrade guides, repairs, mods, thermal improvements, or storage changes

  • Comparisons between devices

  • Developer-focused videos about how emulators, launchers, or Android ports work

  • Programming content related to Android, emulation, Vulkan, native code, or performance optimization

  • Behind-the-scenes videos about my own projects

I want this channel to be different.

Not only “this console is good” or “this console is bad,” but also:

  • Why does it perform this way?

  • What is happening behind the scenes?

  • What can be improved?

  • What is the real experience after testing it deeply?

  • What can developers, modders, and advanced users learn from it?

I would also love to know the format you prefer.

Would you like shorter direct videos?

Longer deep-dive videos?

A mix of both?

More technical content?

More casual reviews?

Spanish content, English content, or both?

Your opinion really matters here.

Since many of you support my work around emulation and Android projects, I think this is the best place to ask first.

So please let me know:

  • What kind of videos would you like to see?

  • What devices or consoles should I review first?

  • Would you like technical teardown-style videos?

  • Would programming or emulator-development videos be interesting to you?

  • What would make this channel useful for you?

I want to build something that feels valuable, honest, and different from the usual review content.

Thanks as always for your support, ideas, and feedback.

- Sapphire 💙

I personally would rather you not be another console/handheld reviewer. With your skills I feel like a developer focused channel with explanations on how emulators, launchers, and what not would be cool to see. I'd love to learn about programming for Android, emulation, and performance optimization stuff. Bts stuff would also be cool to see and have you explain to my dumbass. Second, if you had a big enough platform to bring other developers, coders and designers working on Android or emulation projects would be cool to see and get a dev's perspective of the project. Lastly as for the format, a good middle ground of short and long videos would be neat :) As for the language of the content, both Spanish and English would be greatly appreciated 🙏 I appreciate you asking us for feedback for what channel to make, but again at the end of the day make what makes you happy. I just think I'd be super cool if you made the channel with all my asks above :3c

This is exciting. I think focus on your interest and strength will be beneficial to the channel. I am personally interested to learn about emulator development, including technical details and history. Would love to hear more about your projects as well.

All of the above, basically you could keep your channel going by including all the topics you listed depending on whether or not you plan on making it a full time venture.

Comedy/funny prank shorts

I would love for you to make videos in the style of 100th Coin or Core Dumped where you go into deep dives into what you do

Personally, I would love a more developer focused channel, focusing on emulation, etc. We already have a lot of reviewers in the scene like Retro Game Corp, Joey's Handhelds, Retro Handhelds, etc. We don't have a lot of people getting into the nitty gritty of development. That said though, you should really just do what you ENJOY doing.

Wow the timing is insane because I am helping a friend start a channel as well. For my personal opinion the regular stuff like emulation console and handheld reviews are already done by hundreds of creators and you want something not generic. Same with performance tests those take a load of time and effort and some channels like retro game corp (and others i cant think of) do an alright job already plus your results would be the same as everyone else so its hard not to repeat would others say Pick something you are personally interested in, would like to share with others or something wanted to find out about, research it and share it with others That's the best advice I can give since picking out content is hard. The closest thing I could see would maybe be "Developer-focused videos about how emulators, launchers, or Android ports work" and behind the scenes on your apps. if done right those could be good expecially with your background Comparisons are always a bit fun (again my opinion) I wish you good luck and am totally rooting for you

Truly, I love Youtubers that just follow what is genuinely interesting to them, so just follow your own interests, explore, play, experiment. Make your clickable thumbnails and titles to beat the algorithm, but only after making something you found fun to make. Personally, I would love to see emulator configurations for specific devices, but get into the details of what is good most of the time and what odd edge cases you know about. That and a behind the scenes of your programming process. What issues you run into and how you solve them. Hope that helps! Btw I love boring console review youtubers too lol

I would love more tutorials and some technical context of what you're doing and what the software/hardware is doing. One of my favorite YouTube people is Dammit Jeff because he has a sense of humor and goes into the details of how and why some stuff works, with links to find out more. Also, teardowns are awesome! But only if you're really comfortable showing off and speaking to all the guts.

Rather than declaring a single winner, I'd rather end by saying: 'If you value A, Device X is probably the better choice. If you value B, Device Y may suit you better.' Different priorities lead to different recommendations.

As an idiot, I would love explanations as to what’s going into these beautiful wrappers that I don’t really have any semblance of an understanding of!! But most of all (and this is not helpful), make what you want!! If the content is good- people will watch it, and if you’re not making things you enjoy, it’ll be easy to burn out. What do YOU want to make most? I’m sure a whole lot of us would watch literally anything on that list!! U rule
