Octane Valley (10/08/25) - Turn the lights on.
I have no clue what number update this is. I'll update once i know for sure.
At Octane Motorsports Park I've started experimenting with lights. including a bit of basic 3d modelling (not a particularly developed skillset).
BeamNG has 2 types of lights used for night time in maps, Point and spot. A point light is basically a ball that adds light within it. where as a spot is as it sounds, a directional cone that comes from an origin point. While a point light is less demanding the spots are too good and realistic to pass up. and while putting a spot on each individual model looked fantastic, limiting it to two spots on a 45 degree angle works fine!
I've also used points to highlight some dark spots just turning off the shadows for those lights as to not interfere with the physical lights.
Next job for me will be to start adding buildings I've been meaning to add for a while, most notably the two tech/maintenance sheds. Why 2? well for the sake of realism and immersion, while a single shed could serve both tracks within the facility it makes more sense to have both. Also racers are known to... bend the rules. being a track of my own design i want the tech shed to be a barrier before the racers go back to the pits. so the speedway services are next to the staging lanes while the drags are over on the return road.
As for future plans and additions:
OMP:
- Buildings
- Speedway Surfaces and textures
- Another arena to suit Monster Trucks and Tractor Pulls (unsure if dirt drags will be included as its pretty cramped already
- Spectator parking area
- Track props
- Track signage
OVIR (Octane Valley International Raceway)
- Finish Barriers and Traps/Catchments
- Apply Rumble Strips
- Create markings and draw out each race course
- Map and and popularize pedestrian areas
- Create race missions
- Create Drift Missions
- Test with people who live and breathe circuit racing
Rest of Map:
- Create Road Network
- Create Town
- Create Highway map exit for immersion
- Create Landmarks to explore
- Create houses for RP
- Create Offroad tracks with challenges and obstacles.
Lots of work to be done. At this stage i plan a beta release once I've mostly buttoned up OMP so stay tuned. Also have patience and faith, this is a hobby for me, I'm not looking to profit, and i will not tolerate pressure from people who want to get their hands on it. Beam mods are not your right they are a privilege. (will probably get some flack for trying to put out fires before they spark but is what it is).
Cheers!!!
