They are missing a perfect opportunity to help them make better relationships with the tiger empire. They can use the tails as a symbol of respect or appreciation of the tigers by having tails. It will also give them a physical trait they both have. It’s not much, but to me it could help strengthen their ties with the Tiger Empire
That would raise the question of where they got the tails in the first place which depending on the answer might start a war
