obvious pick but i'd still love to see a the big day episode just because of how massive of a hit chance's star took from it, to an extent that he's never really covered

This Unruly Mess I've Made by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. You had a tweet a while back wondering if this was a Trainwreckord that I think of every time I hear any of Macklemore's post-2016 stuff. It's all dad rap. He really lost his swag/mojo/it factor after apologizing to Kendrick.

I'd like to also add: 30 Seconds to Mars-America: Jared Leto fires anyone in the band without the last name Leto and has thoughts on the world (featuring A$AP Rocky) Maroon 5-Love is Like...-The definitive end of Maroon 5. U2-Songs of Innocence. The iPod album. Sia-Music: Watch Maddie Zeigler start a movie off in possible blackface! Incubus-If Not Now, When?: The album that did the impossible: made Incubus boring Slayer-Diabolus in Musica: The infamous nu metal album from Slayer! Megadeth-Risk: What if The Black Album sucked? Trapt-Shadow Music: Because fuck Trapt

BIONIC - xtina… let’s start a new series Gaga killed my career

J
Joel · September 14, 2025

I would argue that Pop is still the U2 trainwreckord, even though they bounced back huge for a couple of albums. Mainly would still count it because unlike when they bounced back after Rattle and Hum it was with a major reinventing of image and sound... after Pop it was a creative retreat that resulted in just Y2K attempt at Joshua Tree. Also, Pop love it or hate is interesting to talk about, that Songs of Innocence is just a legacy act releasing late career music in a dumb way.

E
Eric Wolford · September 16, 2025

I would argue "No Line on the Horizon" would be a better pick. Yeah, Pop flopped, but "All That You Can't Leave Behind" and "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" gave them a considerable rebound. I mean, "Beautiful Day" played incessantly right after 9/11, and "Vertigo" is one of the many songs synonymous with those iPod commercials in the 2000s. However, despite a big promotional push, "No Line" flopped hard, and "Songs on Innocence" served to confirm that U2's relevance had ended.

K
Kristopher Bluth · September 14, 2025

Very late, I know, but Wasp by Shawn Cassidy. Joe Hardy tries to go New Wave...produced by Todd Rundgren.

L
Lewis Edwards · September 11, 2025

Am I late? Out-of-State Plates by Fountains of Wayne. That's mainly because I want to hear Todd talk about Fountains of Wayne and I've resigned myself to never getting the Stacy's Mom OHW, but it is still interesting. They had years of critical acclaim and sudden serious mainstream momentum after Welcome Interstate Managers - only to squander it (or deliberately arrest it?) with a poorly timed (perfectly timed?) album of old B-sides. And I love that album, it's a really good collection of some classic songs (The Girl I Can't Forget is one of my favourites of all their songs), but just looking at it as a career move, it was a classic Trainwreckord.

E
Eric Wolford · September 11, 2025

"Supernatural" by DC Talk. Not only is it relatively timely (we have excuse to crap on Michael Tait some more), but apparently the band mates were so petty that it led to a messy break-up (at least if Kevin Max's song "I Don't Belong" is to be believed), two solo projects that made egos out of TobyMac and Tait, and just an overall waste after how big "Jesus Freak" was at the time. Yeah, they are technically OHW with the "Jesus Freak" song "Just Between You and Me" (which might also have alluded to the inter-band drama at the time), but given how evil of a person Michael Tait would turn out to be, it's funny to see how their massive stardom exploded by the time the new millennia arrived.

R
RedBedroomRecords · September 10, 2025

Genesis-Calling All Stations: a sad sending to the discography of a great band. This was a case where things might've been different had the bands original choice for a replacement lead singer not tragically passed away. Ray Wilson is a fine vocalist but wasn't the right fit for the group and the album as a whole was mostly just too depressing for it's own good. New Kids on the Block-Face the Music: America's first real boy-band tries to go for a more "mature" New Jack Swing sound and in the process alienates a good chunk of their fanbase. One of their members left before the tour even started and they found themselves playing to half-empty clubs, a far cry from the stadiums they were used to. Scorpions-Eye II Eye:the most succesful foreign band in the world hits a speed bump when they try to do something they've never done before-trend chasing, in this case a weird mixture of pop, adult contemporary, alternative rock and god knows what else(their first German language song features bizarre rapping from James Kotak). They notably never had another charting-hit after this album with Matthias Jabs later expressing regret for it. Also features Todd's nemesis Peter Wolf. Chicago-Twenty-One: The long-running midwestern rock group unceremoniously sacks original member Danny Seraphine and tries to make a go without him and it goes about as well as you'd expect. Def Leppard-X: X most definitely does not mark the spot here as the band follows up their incredible comeback album "Euphoria" with this bizarre alt-rock misfire which features several outside songwriters(including Max Martin) for then-popular artists like "Lonestar"(blech!), "Rascal Flatts", "Westlife", "Britney Spears", "NSYNC", "Backstreet Boys", "Faith Hill", etc. Just a headscratching album all around that the band never really recovered from.

J
Jeffrey Leiker · September 9, 2025

Songs of Innocence- U2 (aka the album that was uploaded onto iPods without anyone's permission) and I say that as a huge U2 fan but the whole ordeal was a messy PR nightmare for an album that I'd argue was weak compared to the rest of their previous releases (including No Line on the Horizon) and was when they finally "lost touch" and not in an ironic commentary way the Zoo-tv/Pop-Mart tours. To me this was my moment the train wrecked and didn't recover.

Eminem's Revival turned him from a questionable presence in rap (talking about quality) into a complete joke. I'd argue it's not only a Trainwreckord as far as sales or reception go, but he really let the negative reactions to the album get to him. It reached a point where everything he did since seems to be pandering to public demand. Revival seriously hurt his commercial success, his relevance within the rap community and his following artistic output all at once.

R
RedBedroomRecords · September 10, 2025

Revival was a big hit on the charts though and some did like it so I wouldn't say it qualifies.

D

g
gooberdude · September 7, 2025

So, here's a question. Is it possible for a debut album to be considered a trainwreckord? If there was an artist who was only marginally known, who rode the coattails of an infinitely more iconic pop star to make a name for himself, and whose first attempt at pop stardom was such a disaster that it not only became quite possibly the most critically panned album of my lifetime, but also ended his relationship with the aforementioned A-lister... What I'm saying is, Kevin Federline's Playing With Fire deserves an episode.

I'm In You by Peter Frampton. He sold more albums in 1976 than Fleetwood Mac, Wings, Stevie, or anybody else with Frampton Comes Alive. (Live albums being a good way to jumpstart the career of not-quite-famous artists was an interesting trend at the time).

S
Shawn Lyall · September 7, 2025

DEFFO Mania by Fall Out Boy. American Beauty/American Psycho was such a huge hit for radio I don't even think you can escape Centuries or Irresistible to this day. Then Mania came out and it flopped so hard you've not heard anything from FOB since unless you're in the fandom including their new album (So Much (for) Stardust) which has since flown well under the radar. That or maybe Jordi by Maroon 5

P
Prideful Xela · September 7, 2025

Someone else already pitched it, but definitely Schizophrenic by JC Chasez. Let’s also not forget the “classic” from the Drumline soundtrack that preceded it in 2002, “Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love)”, which is also a complete disaster There’s a reason JC never took off like Justin

P
Prideful Xela · September 7, 2025

Also special mention to The Hunter by Blondie. They had massive hits right before this album dropped in 1982. Island of Lost Souls, the lead single, has some of the worst horns in music. It was the only charting hit from it (barely at that) and the album bombed and the band called it quits afterwards

Celtic Frost - “Cold Lake” Notorious 180 degree glam turn from a band that broke a lot of ground for thrash, death, and gothic metal in the 80s. Rebounded creatively with their follow-up “Vanity/Nemesis” but didn’t fully recover commercially or critically at the time and broke up for two decades before recording another album. Danzig - “Danzig 5: Blackacidevil” Change in direction to industrial metal from the renowned gothic/doom metal of the first four albums, recorded and released after the classic lineup of Glenn Danzig, Eerie Von, John Christ, and Chuck Biscuits dissolved. Garnered backlash for the style change, plus controversy for Hollywood Records owners Disney for signing Danzig. Personally I think there’s some good tracks on the album, like “Ashes”, “See All You Were”, “Come to Silver”, “Power of Darkness”, and their cover of Black Sabbath’s “Hand of Doom”. Jerry Cantrell appears on three tracks as well (all of which happen to be three of the five I like most, incidentally).

R

Hollywood Records also got controversy for signing Insane Clown Posse and wanted them to remove a few songs like "Under the Moon" and ultimately it got cancelled and they joined a smaller label.

Don't think I've seen it yet, so: Electric Light Orchestra's "Time". Yes it was a UK No. 1 (and is my all-time favourite album from ELO) but it was such a shift away from their normal symphonic rock that it jarred with everyone's expectations (this was the band that had just hit their peak with "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Xanadu"!) and Jeff Lynne just seemed so very *lost* after this album that there was a huge dropoff in sales for the next two albums, which both felt like contractual obligations before a quiet breakup (even if there are tracks from them that are up there with "Shine a Little Love").

I have a few Bionic by Christiana Aguilera solely because it has the lyric, "If I was a ruler, I'd set you straight." Dance by Gary Numan. In America he's known as a one hit wonder obvs, but I'd argue that a Trainwreckords episode would be more interesting since a) He was a big deal in the UK b) This is the album where he drops the iconic androgynous android aesthetic and trys for a jazzy lady's man type vibe. It's quite bad Songs of Faith & Devotion by Depeche Mode. They're attempt at ditching synth/industrial and going for more of a grunge/ early 90s rock sound with mixed results This last one might be a bit of a stretch/too niche but I'd say October Rust by Type O Negative The band's attempt at winning over the lady's while also still appealing to their doom metal fans. It's full of a lot of horny ass ballads. Only charted gold while their previous album charted platinum. The next three albums they went back to doom metal but never went platinum/gold again. Some of the band members have also said that they didn't really like OR. I'd find this one more interesting since I'm seeing Type O have a sort of revival with alt Gen Z online and they like this one. Plus it would be a good Halloween episode :)

Pussy cats by Harry Nilsson. John Lennon produced and helped Harry make the album, who was a huge star at the time having won awards and #1 hits. It's terrible and his career never recovered. I know when it comes to your videos you actually need source material to draw content from. There's both a documentary and a novel (really good read btw) about him and his career.

M
MikeVG · September 5, 2025

Aside from the usual (Bionic, Muse Sick N Hour Message, Calling All Stations, Corporate America, 3D) I have a few that might qualify. One of them would be Exit the Dragon by Urge Overkill, which took them from critically acclaimed band of the year to forgotten hasbeens overnight. I'm also not sure if it counts but what's the general reception on Beautiful Garbage? Seems like it was admittedly a sellout record but I kinda like what I've heard. Sisqo's Return of Dragon (geez, a lot of dragons today) is another case of going from the top straight to the bottom (it being released so close to 9/11 didn't help either). Not sure what Korn's Trainwreckord would be, probably either Take a Look in the Mirror or the Skrillex collab. OutKast's Idlewild soundtrack might also qualify as it's basically a worse version of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Out of the Vein by Third Eye Blind, that qualifies too, man there are a lot of these.

The Heads - No Talking Just Head Think about it: Byrne's new album, their press tour last year, re-releases for two of their albums, and just the fact that spicy band drama makes for some of the most entertaining episodes of the series. Not to mention a quirky new wave-funk band going to fucking NIN-style Industrial just makes for a ten-car pileup of a musical direction. And let's face it: having TH covered on your channel in any capacity would be awesome. My man Jerry Harrison needs more appreciation.

K
Kristopher Bluth · September 5, 2025

On a topic related to a former Trainwreckord, it’s funny that almost all of Oasis’s current set list is 1994-1996. That might make sense in the US, but they had big hits in the UK well into the 2000s. I get nostalgia, but was Be Here Now such a disaster that all their subsequent hits were actually flops?

I know this is probably a long shot, but, I've always wanted you to do a Trainwreckords on "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel. I'm well aware that in terms of music quality it's a great album, but its troubled production (pun intended) is what resulted in S&G splitting up acrimoniously and hating each other to this day. I feel like not enough people have done video essays on S&G, and the story of what happened between them is undertold and underexplored. I've loved their music the majority of my life and still don't really know the specifics. Wikipedia only gives a very vague account.

Amen by Paula Cole felt like it was fucking designed to be on this show. There’s a whole song where she’s writing misery porn in the ghetto with a very stereotypical sounding Black girl name, the title track has lyrics like “amen to Saddam Hussein and Marilyn Manson and Ronald Reagan”, MASSIVE drop off from the album right before it with the Dawsons Creek song commercially and critically, never had a big album after, listening to it was certainly an experience

I Believe In Love is one of my favorite songs of 1999 (and would have been a huge hit if it was released literally any year other than 1999), and the title track is pretty good despite its pretensions...but MAN, does it collapse from there. I could see a really entertaining TW from this one.

Smashing Pumpkins’ “Adore” is a rich text for how unchecked egomania can totally derail a career. Billy Corgan first tried to turn in the basic acoustic demos as a full album, then fired their producer to produce the whole album himself, then argued with the directors of the $800k music video for the lead single and alienated radio programmers by telling them they were making a techno record when that was a four letter word while simultaneously burning through half a dozen different drummers. And now the album is considered a cult classic.

- Supertramp, Famous Last Words. The fact that they could tell this was gonna kill the band while they were making it should tell you everything you need to know. -The Moody Blues, Sur la Mer, and for that matter Yes, Big Generator. Both killed any idea of a long term career for a classic prog-rock band as pop hitmakers. Not everyone can be Genesis [I'm not gonna suggest Calling All Stations cause I don't actually think it's that bad] -Smashing Pumpkins, Adore. Simply because it might just be time.

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Forever by the Spice Girls yet. They were one of the biggest musical acts in the world for a little while. Then Geri Halliwell left the group, and things kinda fell apart. They tried continuing as an R&B-focused quartet with their third album, and… there’s a reason they haven’t released an album since, nor did any of their solo careers go far. I even have a good pre-title line: “Girl Power doesn’t last Forever, this is TrainWreckords!”

U2 - Songs of Innocence. You could argue that No Line on the Horizon was their 'true' career-killer, but I'd argue that the one thing U2 was always known for, was coming back from potentially career-killing albums (e.g. Rattle & Hum into Achtung Baby and Pop into ATYCLB). Songs of Innocence, however, was their first album that didn't hit platinum, was mostly forgettable, and the whole Apple stuff at launch did massive damage to Bono's already contentious public image.

C
CJ · September 5, 2025

You know just how obsessed they were with making sure everyone heard that mid-ass album? They got one of the album cuts on the soundtrack of Rock Band 4, presumably as a contractual obligation for getting "I Will Follow" on the game as well. No other artist had ever before had two songs on the default playlist of a regular Rock Band game!

SHeDAISY's second album, "Knock on the Sky". Loud over the top album full of sound effects and bizarre production. The lead single "Get Over Yourself" got pulled after only three months because radio programmers thought it was a "man hating" song, and the label sent spatulas to record stations to encourage stations to "flip" the single, but the damage was already done and the follow-up didn't do anything either. SHeDAISY spent almost all of 2003 and 2004 off the charts. I know people who love SHeDAISY but hate "Knock on the Sky" for how loud and weird it is. Personally, I love the album and don't think "Get Over Yourself" is man-hating at all. They even took two pot-shots at it in one of their later singles "Don't Worry 'bout a Thing", which includes the lyrics "Ever knock on the sky and have it fall on your head?" and "ever found your last record in the bargain bin?" Albums three and four were a lot more toned down, and SHeDAISY just quietly broke up when their label closed.

Ok so hear me out: Steve Vai's "Sex and Religion" He kicked off the 80s by performing alongside rock's favorite crazy person Frank Zappa, but Vai would see breakout success as part of David Lee Roth's solo band with performances on Eat em' and Smile and Skyscraper. This momentum would be maintained through the rest of the decade; with Vai being a consistent presence on MTV, appearing alongside the then white-hot Ralph Macchio in the movie "Crossroads" , joining Whitesnake for their successful "Slip of the Tongue" record, and later releasing his own acclaimed album "Passion and Warfare". After all of that the man would attempt to start his own proper band with fellow Zappa bandmate Terry Bozzio on drums, RnB session demon T.M. Stevens on bass, and a then unknown singer songwriter named Devin Townsend on vocals. The album would drop in 1993 to at best mixed critical reception, markedly less commercial success than his work in the past decade and the band he put together would ultimately explode following the recording of the album, with Vai being forced to tour with session musicians (although he did have the young Townsend in tow for this, he was to put it lightly a bit of a handful to tour with).

I wonder how wrong I'd be for suggesting either Divide or No. 6 Collaborations Project by Ed Sheeran. I still haven't heard No. 6 yet (but I do have it), but my progression through his discography was Multiply -> Add -> 5 EPs -> Divide, and you can probably guess that that progression is one of clearly diminishing returns. I wonder if Turn Blue by The Black Keys or any album after that would count, not so much in the "massive commercial failure" department but more in the "complete loss of relevance" department. Looking through the albums I have, P!nk's Beautiful Trauma and Foster the People's Supermodel stand out, and I feel like some 2010s album by either Gorillaz or U2 would qualify but I wouldn't know which would do it (and this whole comment is before I even get to albums from before 2010).

Dook · September 5, 2025

I'll suggest one I never see brought up in Trainwreckords discussions: Party Rock Mansion by Redfoo. LMFAO were already treated as a novelty act in 2011/12, but by 2016, when moody alt-pop was just about to take over, watching a 40 year old man trying to stay relevant by both trying and failing to adapt with the times (Rapping about whipping and nae-naeing and hitting the quan over DJ Mustard-esque beats or songs with tropical house elements) or by pretending that it's still 2011 and the Party Rock sound is still the dominant sound of pop is just kind of sad. Even for the standards of LMFAO music in 2016, it was a humongous bomb - it only sold 133 copies in Australia, and that was Redfoo's best market. It also features Stevie Wonder, has a connection to an Alvin & The Chipmunks movie, and was proceeded by "Literally I Can't", one of the worst songs of the entire decade. It's just an altogether bizarre record.

As for other suggestions: • Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 6 & Chance the Rapper’s The Big Day seem like no-brainers – the former was universally loathed out the gate, and Chance only recovered from the latter a few weeks ago • A Better Tomorrow by Wu-Tang Clan. Maybe not outright trash, but bad enough that it’s the last full-length Wu album helmed/produced by RZA • Nas’ Nastradamus is an edge case – obviously it didn’t kill his career, but it definitely put it on life support; at minimum it made his beef with Jay-Z a life-or-death situation. (The consensus in 2001 is that Nas had one (1) great debut, and everything that followed was mid to trash; rap audiences didn’t warm to It Was Written until after “Ether” dropped). The album itself is very much a rush job, and “Big Girl” is one of the five worst songs Nas has ever recorded. • Vultures 2 is also an odd case – Kanye hasn’t made anything good since 2018, and Vultures 2 did reach #2 on the charts, but it’s the point where all but the very worst dead-enders finally got off the Ye train. Donda 2 might qualify here; Kanye was already well beyond cooked when the Hitler album dropped (and said Hitler album never officially released).

Muse- 2nd law, while not a bad album persay, it did in many ways streamline the band into playing it safe on later albums. The album doesn’t feel coherent enough, feeling more like a complimation collection of songs that wouldn’t fit anywhere else. While drones may be worse, Muse never reached the same maystay that they once had. Survive may have been the theme for the olympics in 2012, but they managed that in spite of this album, not because of it. For me, it was the first time where there where songs which felt phoned in. Usually Muse will have one or two songs on an album that feels like filler, but 2nd law features nearly half the tracklist of filler. You let the bassist sing, of which I like one of the songs he sings, but there’s a reason he hasn’t had vocal duties since. And then you get to the two part title track finale, which feels like an attempt to recreate Exogenesis: Symphony, but whereas that fused rock with classical music, we now get rocked fused with dubstep. A genre which lost fasion within months of the album getting a release. The problem is, there was potentional for a great album, the opener Supremacy is a great unused James Bond theme, Panic Station is a fun dance rock song, Survival is cheesy but fun and animals may be the last truly great Muse song. But the album is fused with the band’s worst impulses, and set the stage for their turn into generic rock throughout the 2010’s.

T
Thunderclaw · September 5, 2025

I'd honestly say Drones or Simulation Theory is where Muse started to fall off. 2nd Law undersold, but it at least had songs that charted on par with other Muse songs in the past. It wasn't until Drones that they started to disappear from the charts as well.

“Head Over Heels” by Paula Abdul Her 3rd album, came off the heels (no pun intended) of one of the biggest smashes of the 90s “Spellbound”, an album which contained Rush Rush, one of the biggest songs in Billboard history by an artist with tons of momentum from the late 80s up to that point…and yet this album halted everything. And granted some personal issues may have gotten in the way too, but she has literally never made another album since this. Which wouldn’t be a problem if it had any hits and it doesn’t. My mom is the biggest Paula Abdul fan in the world, and even she didn’t recognize this album. That’s a problem. I listened to its singles, and while I’m not sure they’re the worst thing in the world, they’re all over the place. So this album kinda checks all the boxes for Trainwreckords. Not just career killing album, but the artist herself? I mean I like Paula Abdul, but even I acknowledge there’s a reason she didn’t stick around longer. I can’t help but compare her to Janet Jackson except less domineering. Which there’s a place for on the charts, but not for the long term really. So give her a very lukewarm, not well received album which shaky singles, some IRL baggage, and you may have a compelling story on your hands.

I agree, both those albums I would love to see in future Trainwreckords episodes for sure, especially Chinese Democracy. My only real experience with that album, when it was new, was when the single Shackler's Revenge appeared on Rock Band 2's setlist that year. I thought the single was actually alright, and from what I've heard now, the general consensus is that it was about the ONLY decent song on the whole album. Also, I am quite curious to hear about what happened to the Spice Girls after they started to go solo, especially after the Spiceworld movie, lol.

Going a different direction, but I think Year of the Snitch by Death Grips led to a series of events that killed the group. Not to mention that it was a serious downgrade in quality even from Bottomless Pit. They went from an act that influenced David fucking Bowie to a punchline.

Full Circle by The Doors. The Doors really, really, really thought people would care about them after Jim Morrison died, and, no.

P
Pietro Gagliardi · September 5, 2025

Actually that raises a question: Other Voices or Full Circle? Jim always insisted that the band was equally talented, and Other Voices was their attempt to prove it (plus it's got at least one moment of aged-poorly racial-coded cringe on it, and I know how much people here like seeing that on Trainwreckords/OHW =P ). Full Circle was their attempt at proving it while at the same time admitting that they needed Jim's writing. And An American Prayer was them throwing in the towel and just releasing Jim recordings with a bunch of new playing on top.

Pinkerton. Pinkerton. Pinkerton. I think it should qualify since its reception led to later albums being written off by critics and fans alike. Weezer's career didn't totally die after, but it irrevocably changed.

T
TheLoser · September 5, 2025

Pinkerton would only have counted if your idea of Weezer is permanantly stuck in the 90s. It being now critically acclaimed and Weezer getting their biggest pop hits in the 2000s makes it an odd choice overall, especially when compared to Raditude's entire existance. But even Radititude is debatable considering people say they had a full comeback with either EWBAITE or White. Weezer's output is simply too eclectic and varied in quality in the first place to belong on Trainwreckords IMO.

The Village People - Renaissance. True, Can’t Stop the Music and the general backlash against disco would have doomed any band. But the desperation of their attempt to pivot to New Wave was the final nail in their coffin (even though some of the actual songs still slap). I think you’ve previously dismissed doing Neither Fish nor Foul by Terrence Trent D’Arby; but that would still be an interesting story to dive into, given just how sudden his crash was. Just not sure how to best handle the deadname issue.

Evanescence's second album, The Open Door, but maybe that's just me. I guess I can't say if the genre popularity just passed them by, or if it was the album that tanked them, but they certainly haven't been the megastars they were with their first album. And it also marked them losing their guitarist and as a result any remaining vestiges of whatever Christian Rock scene they may or may not have been a part of (that was a whole interband conflict in their early days) and it ended up kinda changing their sound over the years.

The Big Day is an easy choice. I'd be also very interested in Pretty Odd by panic. It caused multiple band members to leave and was commercially extremely underwhelming. It caused the band to basically turn into the Brendan Urie show and reshape the band as it was known. They made the album to sound nothing like I Write Sins not Tradegies and it was a huge flop as a result

Has Duran Duran had a trainwrecord? Seems like they had one every few years in the late 80s/early 90s? Maybe Liberty or Thank You? Obviously they’re still going and have had good records since. I’d maybe count Red Carpet Massacre as one as well. I love them, but they’ve wrecked themselves many many times.

C

s
sconce · September 5, 2025

I have no idea if you would be willing to do a movie soundtrack as a trainwreckord, but it might fit - Sia’s Music Soundtrack. It might not count cause during the years where there wasn’t much good music coming out there was a bunch of her older songs becoming hits because of TikTok and commercials, but since then she’s never been able to regain the momentum she had even as a songwriting collaborator and her reputation has never been fully restored. Plus that soundtrack has quite a bit to discuss on it on its own - it’s the perfect example of her sellout period after her indie darling days and mainstream breakthrough

R
Rob Wilson · September 5, 2025

I've always wanted to tell you this. there is so much potential in having the 2010 Michael Jackson "Michael" album be the first posthumous train record, mainly for so much drama surrounding three of the songs having had an impersonator song them, the case was taken all the way to the California supreme Court as an example of possible consumer fraud. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about blowback from the MJ community, because none of us actually like the album.

P
Pietro Gagliardi · September 5, 2025

I still would personally hesitate to buy a MJ album that isn't clearly a copy from before 2009 because while I like having bonus tracks in general I also can no longer be sure what's real or not. Very much something they didn't need to do. Also raises all the "new" material into question, not just those three songs.

Scarecrow was relatively successful after that point though, released two years later. 5x platinum, no 1 on the billboard charts, had some hits. Not as big as albums like No Fences, but neither were Fresh Horses or Sevens even before Chris Gaines. It's kind of tough to fully judge the effect of Chris Gaines because he semi-retired for a while after Scarecrow to raise his kids and stopped releasing new music and touring for several years.
