White Lions - High Res Gallery

The White Lions are finally finished and that means that I have finished all of the elite High Elf infantry units that I had planned. I’ve got twenty-one Swordmasters, twenty-one Phoenix Guard, and twenty White Lions. An achievement that little Kizza could never have imagined back when I started the High Elves in 2000.

I’ve always loved the White Lions from a lore perspective. They are the noble and selfless bodyguards of the Phoenix Kings, physically powerful, and incredibly courageous. However, when it comes to the sculpts of the models, I feel like they are the weakest of the three elite infantry choices. They all have the same legs, very limited poses, some of the face sculpts leave a bit to be desired. They also have giant axes and I’ve always felt it was a bit of a strange choice for the elves, a choice better suited to less sophisticated characters such as the orcs or dwarfs. Despite all of that I’m really happy with how they turned out in the end and I’m really looking forward to playing some games with them on the weekend. I’ve got a 3k game lined up against some Skaven, and a 2k game with a Troll Hord. Hopefully they don’t suffer too much from the infamous “new model syndrome.”

If you’ve got any questions about the process or my High Elves in general, please feel free to ask them in the comments.

Very cool, how quick is the painting method? :) I also have the HE project slated... it was my first army and similarly need to fulfil my younger-self dream of having a nicely painted HE army! PS. How do you do the movement trays? Are they easy to use on the table?

I think the painting techniques aren't too complicated, but the models are so detailed that it takes a long time to get them done. It's a slow process.

The best white lions that I ve seen. Your color squeme is fantastic. I would like to ask you how it is your faces recipe and how did you paint “la capa de Leon”, the leather parts and the white. Thank you very much. Your army is an inspiration. Pd. I can not wait your next blue tutorial. Un fuerte abrazo

Thanks! The faces use the same recipes and techniques that are in the faces tutorial. The cloaks were a bit of an experiment and were way more complicated than they needed to be. The leather is Rhinoxhide, Dubai Brown, and Kislev Flesh. The fur is Birch, Pale Blue Grey, White, and Nuln Oil.
