I wonder if this author works or has worked in the funeral industry, because all the stuff about a large corporation buying up local funeral homes is 100% true.

I listened to this then did construction work for basically the first time the next day, and was in a 7ft deep hole, and I felt a bit claustrophobic for sure and kept thinking about this story

My dad was buried alive while sealing the waterlines for one of the decommissioned nuclear missile silos in Arizona. He and five other men were down in the ditch working when somebody pushed the dirt mound back in the hole without realizing what he was doing. Luckily the mistake was noticed quickly and nobody died. However they were all severely injured. My dad told me he was the lucky one because he was the only one still able to walk after the surgerys but all of his teeth, and ribs were broken. His spine had to be held together with a steel brace after that. Before he died few years ago he had went through eight major back surgeries and looked a billt like frankinstine with his shit off. He often told me about being glad he was knocked out when it happened because some of the others weren't so lucky and they had horrible storms to tell about it afterwards. He said it took them about thirty minutes to dig them out because they couldn't use heavy machinery to avoid ripping up the victims. Sorry for the long story, just figured it was tropical and a little wild as a true story.

I don't expect anybody to believe me at all but at the 47:00 tangent when Hunter asked what song the [redacted] were humming, the first thing that popped into my mind was Jackson 5 "Want You Back" and that was right BEFORE Isaiah said it

I'm absolutely loving this story, but why does Hunter sometimes ham in the voice acting? When he read "Addict? Yeah. Close to death?" That whole sentence was like to dudes casually talking when it was supposed to be a very tense moment of confusion on the narrators part. He's done that on some other good stories too, can they not just re record some lines in post? It just breaks the tension, and I know it's two dudes goofing around, but when they do read I am locked in. Not to be a complainer, just something I noticed.

Something I’ve really enjoyed about this podcast is listening to Isaiah become a better narrator. I don’t think he was ever a bad one (save maybe pancake family, but tbh that’s one where I preferred of reading it to listening anyways), I wouldn’t stick around if I thought the reading was bad. In fact I’ve always preferred his reading style combined with hunters voice acting better than the likes of scary YouTubers who put on that deep rasping tone to try to dramaticize but like. For a long time when I thought of Isaiah’s best performance I thought about Rob in left right game and honestly chalked it up to rob being a southern guy and Isaiah’s Appalachian roots. Now, listening to something like this, or the man in the basement takes one step closer, I feel like he has a way better grasp on when to speed up and create a sense of urgency, when to slow down, has a better grasp on the emotions a character would be saying everything with. It’s just a real treat. I think to a while back he said something about someone leaving a comment about him being a guy who “got lucky with an ice berg trend” and while I never really agreed with that, and in fact felt like some videos he made were the most respectful on certain topics, I feel like we’ve especially gotten past that now, where he gets to show off his talents more. It’s truly lovely
