I will say, the boys have a habit of reading one slightly quirky line and then hunter will immediately give it the redditor accent and the entire story is then made to be quirky. ive watched both of your contents neither of you are safe from being quirky youre just quirky in the newgrounds way. I dont think any of the stories failings are from the author not taking it seriously or something. the strengths were definitely the descriptions but hunters criticisms were spot on, it felt like the story was just endlessly building but then never went anywhere with it. it wasnt "too quirky" or anything, it just failed to deliver on a neat premise it established and i feel our boys can get way to blinded by hunters redditor voice when they actually do get to criticizing things. If i were to rewrite this story id honestly jump into the idea of the door ways way earlier, have our character basically astral project as they start transforming into this new thing and maybe meet some of the other people in these strange and weird dimensions. talking with them, learning about who they are and whats happening through simply exploring the unknown. it would liklely lean away from horror but the original story felt tethered by the horror genre rather than empowered by it.

It's a fun spoopy short story about these beings that seek out despair and suffering, and they exist side by side with us, but we can't see them. The protagonist encounters them because he had a habit of searching for scary content, like creepy pastas, or gore, I think. He was able to see them seemingly by accident, but they were aware that he could perceive them, and then the chaos ensues

This story was pretty bad. But it gave me an idea. There’s a guy who received a head injury that destroyed his occipital lobe, rendering him blind. But a doctor invented an experimental procedure to give him a new type of sight. The optic nerves are connected to the amygdalae, which are responsible for threat detection and immediate, instinctive emotional responses. What if this experimental procedure allowed his amygdalae to act as new occipital lobes? First, they remove the occipital lobes. Then they implant two pairs of devices: one pair that connect the amygdalae to the ventral and dorsal streams, and one pair that encourages the amygdalae to further develop via neuroplasticity. Over time, the amygdalae become more powerful and begin to perform the functions once performed by the occipital lobes. Once more, he is able to perceive the world around him, but the thing processing sensory information is the same part of the brain responsible for perceiving threats. As a result, he’s capable of detecting danger that no one else can. He doesn’t actually see, at least not like we do. He senses things in a way that he can’t even explain. His unusual sight has incorporated trauma into a sensory perception. It’s called “All Tomorrows” and it’s a book about theoretical evolution of humanity & other species when a third party gets involved and starts to screw with all the genetics. It’s 122 pages, but actually only like 60 because half of them are detailed illustrations of all the different mutations that people were forced to undergo If it doesn’t suit CreepCast then so be it, but I think you two would enjoy checking it out. I read both of Travis’ books and there are small additions to this story in the books. I believe we get the backstory for Borrow and at least one other character if I remember it right. The books are worth the read, but I don’t think reading the extracurriculars make this story any better. I personally like a lot of his shorter horror concepts, but they can’t all be winners. Imo Maria on the Moon and the Whistler were his best hits.

This was probably my least favorite episode of the pod. Not because I disliked the story(and I did). But because Hunter refused to let Wendigoon air out his opinions. Half of the hosts might as well have been a brick wall. It ruined the flow of the episode for me. Usually the roles are reversed but never has Wendigoon just refused to let Hunter speak his peace or thoughts about a story. I watch this show firstly for their reactions and the stories second. I really hope this won’t be a common occurrence in future episodes.

The "Woman Trapped in a Room" ending isn't the author referencing other stories he's written, all the stories are interwoven, that's what the whole thing is about. You only read one part of it, of course it didn't make sense. It's not the kind of story you just read one part of, it's a smaller part of a larger whole. It's like watching Empire Strikes Back and saying "there's this old man that's a ghost who comes in at the beginning, it doesn't make any sense, I guess it's a reference to another movie we didn't watch". If you aren't going to read all of it, maybe just read something else. And then you double down on it when Hunter rightly suggests it might be your fault, it's not a "part 17" dumbass, all the stories are connected in a way that you can read them in whatever order. That's the first one in the series I heard, and it didn't make sense until I read some of the others. But then when you do it all comes together. You are the dumbass here, there's a reason people are telling you you're wrong and it's not "gaslighting". But of course Isaiah is wrong about something just about every time he flaps those big fleshy Vienna sausages on his face and he just confidently rolls with it anyway every time. I wish I had the confidence to say objectively wrong shit publicly and just never acknowledge it.
