Discord stuff question for people who know

So, what about Discord-through-Patreon artist servers? I've seen other artists doing it for years, but much time has passed and I never though on doing that myself. What people do there and why would I do it too?

I feel it has a community appeal that the others have brought up. However, for me personally, I also feel there are way too many Discord servers to keep track of. I'd just like to enjoy TheMaestroNoob artwork and not much else. A server could serve as a notification center for new releases for non-Patreons though. As a Patreon, I get notified via email

It adds community (if you work to create the community). It also adds some administrative work on removing older posts in the delivery channel. If you don't, then a new subscriber can see the delivery of every post back to the opening of the channel. So if you want the benefits of a chat community, go for it.

Discord allows you to have a community. It allows for a greater degree of communication between you and your patrons (and patrons amongst themselves). That's the gist of it. Beyond that, it's a matter of what you would want to do with such a community, how you would shape it and what uses you can find for it.

I've been on a few and some did feel a little tacked on and superfluous. I suppose it depends on how much you would want to share (personal or art-wise) that's not already on patreon, and if you would want to engage your fans in a irc chat like environment. You do tend to get a little more direct feedback, so if that's what you're looking for, go nuts imo.

You can also have artists that follow you post their art, and you can give advice or tips, and other artists can do the same.

i also think there's less restrictions on posting images and uploads. I an artist that likes to do tentacles, but patreon forbids it

Wait Patreon disallows tentacle content? wtf?

That depends entirely on you if you want to talk, share WIP's and "other" stuff, stream.
