3D Printing & Painting Contest: FDM Appreciation Month! First prize is a 3D printer from Elegoo!
They're tough to master. The supports are a pain. But without FDM printers we wouldn't be here today friends :). This month for my 3D printing and painting contest lets show off our best FDM prints. And as a special treat, to celebrate their anniversary I've teamed up with Elegoo who will reward the winner with an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro!
(yes I see the irony in a resin printer being the prize for an FDM contest lol)
Rules are as follows:
Post your submission below with an image url. Imgur preferred. Please don't use instagram as I can't download images from there.
Follow Elegoo on these platforms: https://linktr.ee/elegoomarketing
Only use my files though remixes are welcome
Must be FDM printed
One submission per patron from any tier
One creature per submission, though swarms of one creature are fine.
Voluntary: on your social media posts about this if you could show which FDM printer you used and used these tags: #mz4250paintingcontest #elegoo. This is so the event can get popular and Elegoo can interact with the participants.
You have until 23:59 25 July 2022 to post here then I'll make a poll where you will decide the winner! Prizes are:
1st - An Elegoo Mars 2 Pro plus, bottle of resin and a custom 3D modeled mini
2nd & 3rd - a custom 3D modeled mini and a bottle of resin
4th & beyond - a sticker by Jen!
Due to shipping restrictions, currently printers can only be sent to the US, UK, Australia, Canada and most EU countries, If they cannot send the machine to the winner's location, Elegoo will communicate with other sponsorship methods, such as paying for the product through PayPal. Good luck! I can't wait to see what you post!

I ran out of time. My replacement parts where late and I wasnt able to print in time. :(
That's tough- I entered a 2 year old effort for similar reasons. Some great efforts on here so I'm not too optimistic!
This one was a challenge! I went with one of my favorite enemies I've ever fought - the King of Feathers! I decided to remix the T-Rex into a new King of Feathers since the one under the ToA folder isn't very FDM friendly and I liked the added sculpting on the updated T-Rex. https://imgur.com/a/lOpDLFV
I painted Turtlebro! Aka the Zaratan. This was a fun challenge to work with, and is one of my largest prints ever. https://imgur.com/gallery/2guVJQI
This was a fun one, trying to get things to pop a bit on a creature that's portrayed almost always as just an inky black nothingness. I present: the Mothman https://i.imgur.com/gafO3Pv.jpg
Here are my two favorite FDM models. I will admit it was MZ’s models that inspired and led me to get a resin printer, even though I did get my FDM machine doing them fairly well. https://imgur.com/gallery/8K7BQmS
Attempted to get a Metallic Sentinel run off for this one but wasn't able to get it to print without breaking, so decided to finally paint the Undead Dragon I had run off some time ago. Went for a recently deceased look, came out better than expected. Printed on my Ender 3 Pro, using Hatchbox filament at a .12 layer height and paint with Master Series Paints. Print and Paint Competition, FDM Appreciation Month https://imgur.com/gallery/Yfe7V1S
These are some of my favorite things I have printed so far. Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholders, Print and Paint Competition, FDM Appreciation Month https://imgur.com/gallery/bBEnItJ
So excited to paint this miniature. This was my first time painting a mini and I had so much fun. Thank you so much for making these models accessible, it made getting into the hobby so much more accessible for me. Something about the wings and scales of Kukulkan stood out to me. Anyways, here it is :3 - https://imgur.com/gallery/RkiWdlS
Meet Austin the Astral Dreadnought. He will be wreaking havoc at Gen Con this year! https://imgur.com/gallery/E7hak2M
Went for your epic Tiamat model! https://imgur.com/gallery/3LTltjg
It rises from the deeeeep!! Kraken printed on Elegoo Neptune 2s https://imgur.com/a/fBn5rvS First time painting multi-part OSL. Combo of AP speedpaints and Vallejo Model Colour.
Here is Terry the Tarrasque. This was a ton of fun! https://imgur.com/a/wZH0RbQ
My Hollow Dragon defends his lair from would be intruders https://imgur.com/gallery/hmUdVI6
I'm entering the giant chunk of a single print known as the battle tortoise. https://imgur.com/gallery/5OS7jwm
I have decided to enter Tyr: Norse god of war and Justice that was created last week. https://imgur.com/gallery/nPAq28Z I just finished painting it about an hour ago. Printed on a Creality Ender 3 pro. If anyone wants to see more of it, or get more details checkout my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/david.e.overmyer/posts/pfbid035zwHjGnmP1VKZ9rAngjENwxvH1bsfndvfgYGW999TLR9TxrxzPUJPkAUtZj8xnqul?notif_id=1658698619102846¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic&ref=notif
This is my first time doing a miniature! https://imgur.com/gallery/LOrYduu
Here is my entry, an Ancient Red Dragon printed on my Ender 3 Pro. Many hours of cleanup and painting! Just finished painting it today. https://imgur.com/gallery/xECDIip
Had to go with a small one. Getting it cleaned and in one piece was a fight but I’m super happy on how this and its brothers turned out! https://imgur.com/a/4YJ1Dhz
Painted up a happy little Treant for a campaign I'm running. Added some flock for beard/brows/chest hair. In the campaign he lives in a cave connected to the Feywild and paints on the walls. https://imgur.com/gallery/UoA1UG9
I painted the tarrasque, that I printed on my creality ender 3 v2 https://imgur.com/a/BwSEW0m
I love it!!
Had a hard time deciding what to post. Kind of wanted to post my up-scaled Tiamat. She has a 24" wingspan! But saw several Tiamat's already, and I haven't finished painting her. So instead I give you the Elder Brain: https://imgur.com/gallery/hDavWPh
A somewhat rusty iron golem: https://imgur.com/gallery/MQ0sYbA Printed on my trusty Ender 3
My best print on an Anycubic Mega. https://imgur.com/gallery/vVn9RUL
https://imgur.com/SV70MAs First attempt at printing a mask and then Airbrushing it. very new at both of these but so happy with how it turned out :D Printed on an ender 3
also i want to note that this is a mask for a creature (me!) but i know probably doesn't met the guidelines but i dont have any minis im happy with from my FDM printer
https://imgur.com/gallery/8A6dMg0 Bob Moss having fun painting his Happy Little Trees, printed on a Ender 3 and hand painted. That Canva was quite a challenge!
This looks great. I was curious, did you scale the size up?
https://imgur.com/a/j8cXXel Death's Kiss Beholder, printed on Ultimaker 3. Good luck bending the tentacles on a resin print ;)
https://imgur.com/a/hVj9Hj2 this is amethyst the fairy goddess. she is printed on an anycubic vyper, overture white matte filament. Paint and other finishing by my wife
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ayEk1HFohbp7u7WFA Demon grinder rolling, remix v5.5 is ours. Note: Image is rather big, but a huge mini requires huge image.
This looks really awesome
Frost Giants for my entry... Hoping male and female version count as a single monster https://imgur.com/a/I98JJ8J
My entry, the unspeakable horror. Printed on a Prusa Mini+. https://i.imgur.com/wOHT49J.jpg
Argh. Just read the fine print and these are not FDM. Ah well... Regardless, keep up the amazing modeling!
Oh jeez lol. Oh well. Next time then :P
Then Tiamat it is! 5 in 1 special :)
Let's go with the family portrait! (the second one)
Those are all different dragons. Its supposed to be only one :/
Name that D&D module! It's either The Rise of Tiamat, or I'm casting for a sitcom about a blended Metallic/Chromatic family of dragons... https://imgur.com/gallery/QiuyRns
Hello. One entry per patron please. Which of these do you want to enter for the contest? They're all really good btw :)
Took a few days to resin print, and them more than a few days to paint. She's a beast! (literally and figuratively) Tiamat! https://imgur.com/gallery/AghLVhJ
Aargh, printer hot end crapped out! Waiting on parts now, and after I finally settled on a model..
The joys of fdm
https://imgur.com/gallery/t0lBAbD I had originally wanted to show him off during a winter- themed (i think) contest, but I finished too late. He is my best model yet!
Honestly enjoy seeing things that anyone prints on an FDM. I could never get mine to work. Sold it and got a resin. You guys rock!
I've printed a remix of the Darkling Elder (I've removed part of his left arm) and decided to paint it as a "bandit" or rogue so the armour is dulled down as well as the colours for the cape. I absolutely love your minis but I find that often there aren't many options for amputees or "hurt" characters/monsters. https://imgur.com/a/PqHSNuX P.S. I'm a Patreon but I've no idea why it doesn't appear so, if you need it, I'll send you a screenshot of the billing details for July.
Me casually wishing I had an FDM lol
This print is my first miniature. I still keep it! When I started D&D, I saw an article that shows mz4250 is released a huge collection of miniatures. Immediately took an action and print the simple cultist. It was also my first attempt to paint a mini. I believe it was 4 years ago. Last week, just got my first resin printer and now I'm really excited! It's a small creature for me but Mega-sized creature for my journey :) https://imgur.com/a/3AMsemR
Love the dramatic photography
I printed this Ancient Red Dragon shortly before my Ender3 died. All assets from the base (dragon horde) were pulled from various files mz had laying around. https://imgur.com/a/aSd4guu
That is tight! Is that a metallic red paint you used?
A couple of years old now, but I made this Demogorgon for my out of the abyss campaign. He is usually on my mantelpiece to perturb guests (especially the player whose level 3 druid he smushed) https://imgur.com/a/9f7wOk2
I’ll go with the shaman;)
How did you get that quality on fdm? Looks like resin
And here is the rest of what I call the Gnoll Patrol: https://imgur.com/gallery/nPgNMNY
Only one post per patron please. Which of these do you want to be your submission?
Gnoll Spearman https://imgur.com/gallery/yegsHTq
Gnoll Leader https://imgur.com/gallery/BLYSyEu
I loved the Gnolls and printed some of the older ones a while ago. Here is the Gnoll Shaman https://imgur.com/gallery/waJC13b
What fdm printer did you use? The quality is amazing
Earth Elemental, one of my first prints and still really love how it turned out. Printed with an Ender 3 Pro which still works excellent. For smaller and detailed models I would really love a resin printer. Great contest and good luck everyone! https://imgur.com/LuOKVIB https://imgur.com/Kt9I6l8
Adult Red Dragon Printed on Ender 3 w/ 0.4mm nozzle and 0.1mm layer height. I sure wish I had a better camera :) Thanks for doing the giveaway and thanks for everything you do for the community! https://imgur.com/a/VThGBpS
Dragon Turtle. Printed on an Ender 3 at .12mm layer height. https://imgur.com/gallery/P5cJbf9
Just curious, any rules about bases? Getting a print ready to go (one of your models) and looking into adding a different base (also FDM printed) to spruce it up a bit, just wanted to see if that's ok! If not, no worries, I can add the custom base later
I'm no Mz, but historically bases and dioramas are allowed. I think its still preferred to use his files, or things you have made, for those assets, as he doesn't wanna get in any legal trouble with copyright.
My son and I have been printing and painting minis for a Frostmaiden campaign. Printed this Tomb Tapper which is our favorite so far. https://imgur.com/a/Y1aht9f
I present, after 120 hours of printing and another 20 hours of painting - Tiamat! https://imgur.com/gallery/XcWeJ1L
I love the Tiamat model. I printed that as soon as mz finished it.
is rewarding a good fdm print with a resin printer supposed to be a hint? ;)
Imperial Guard Captain https://imgur.com/a/W1GDqih
I may have to finally paint your green dragon I printed way back when. Although I've been getting a lot of use out of my FDM printer lately, printing the Spelljammer ship. That thing is huge!
Jumping in quickly on this one, I made a black dragon I loved using my Ender 3 Pro. These days, I'd probably have printed it on my Mars 3, but FDM was all I had at that time, lol. Working the supports out of the jaws was a pain, but I think it still came out great. https://imgur.com/a/Y2haVsd
Awesome! so many to choose from though!
