Riley Makes an Illegal Emergency Stop.. 4m Waves, Electrics Down
What can we say… this episode is one wild, relentless ride.
As many of you know, Riley's currently taking on a 3,000NM sail from Indonesia to New Zealand, and this leg of the passage is throwing him and his crew an absolute hammering at sea. Four-metre waves, relentless winds, and La Vagabonde smashing her way through some truly diabolical conditions. And just when Riley thinks things can't get much worse… a sail tears and the electrics go down in the middle of the Pacific.
With the boat and crew pushed to their limits, Riley is forced to make an emergency stop somewhere he's not legally permitted to enter.
Grab a cuppa (or something stronger lol), settle in, and come along for the ride as Riley takes on the sail of a lifetime, while myself and our boys get our little homestead ready for his return.
As always, a massive thank you for your continued support. It's thanks to you legends that we get to keep sharing these adventures, through the good, the bad, and the downright ridiculous! We appreciate you all more than you know.
Got any advice for his next leg of the passage? Drop him a comment below and he'll jump in to reply soon as he can!
Big love from all of us,
Elay, Riley, Lenny and Darwin
xx

WOW!
Had a similar shake down trip from Richards Bay to Durban.30 ft waves over the coastal shelf with both my 12 and 10 year old boys .Love you exploits, may luck be with Riley and crew.
Don't know if you'll see this, but I wasn't able to make it to Annapolis to the Boat Show. AND, I would REALLY like to get a free the wind t-shirt. I know you gave them away for free at the show, but If there are any remaining, I'd be happy to pay for one, and pay postage. I'm in Vermont in the US. THX
That deep blue, and no protection on the helm is gnarly. Glad you folks made it alright. Done that stormy weather on a tall-ship with only a tiller and no help protection(they don't have autopilot on a tall-ship) on the US West Coast and I quite frankly don't ever care to do it again. It was raining and cold and about 50 degrees, we had to go aloft because the rigging broke and they sent those of us who knew how to repair it go up(me). 4 meter waves at 15 second sets. Since then, I've stayed stuck to land. Enjoy your farm life.
La Vagabonde coped so well it in the very rough seas and high winds. It looked very scary but you all dealt with everything the weather threw at you so calmly and professionally. It was a nice contrast seeing the work Elay was getting on with at home. Can't wait to see all that she has planted grow.
Another proof that you are exactly the person you need to be to be the REAL you!!!
Whew!!! What a trip on this segment. Good on all of you!!! Hopefully the Immigrations will be understanding and let you continue on into better weather.
You all are the survivors. Are you going to establish a get out of jail fund?
Congratulations on the team’s perseverance and dealing with adversity head on. Your ten days together leading up to this weather prepared you as a team to handle it. Well done!
Incredible sail. What a great crew you put together.
FreeTheWind is 🔥 Thank you! Legendary move
Does the drenching of yourselves and the wave destroying the electric components make you wish you had some form of wheelhouse on LV? I mean even if it were to have been some sort of canvas enclosure for weather, don't you think it would have been wise? Maybe I am wrong but was there sufficient space to do that? Even some sort of dodger arrangement to basically step behind???
i am happy that all ok, you are the best but what , a crossing got bless you and fam i watch you from day one
So relieved to see you’re safe !!! That looked quite terrifying - the huge waves, the crashing sounds and then cooking your electrics … the first time watching that I’ve been glad to be on land !! Looking forward to seeing the reunion ❤️❤️❤️
A skit! Brings me back to Bilgey days. :D What a hectic part of your crossing and you’ve left us on a cliffhanger while we wait to see what the Solomon Islands Immigration has to say. Thanks for another great movie, Team LaVagabonde!
