Getting our New Life Ready Before Dad Arrives

Things are really starting to feel real over here in Vanuatu.

While Riles is making his way across from Indonesia, myself and the boys have been busy getting stuck into our land and trying to get as much ready as we can before he arrives.

One of the biggest jobs has been getting our food forest underway. We’ve been heading out locally to find produce and plants that will actually thrive here, bringing everything back to the property and getting it into the ground. There’s something so satisfying about planting food you know will hopefully be feeding everyone here for years to come!!

It’s still very much a work in progress, but already it’s starting to look and feel like something.

We’ve also been kitting out the workers’ shed and trying to make the place a little more functional for Timu and the crew who help look after the land. There are a million little jobs that come with setting up a place like this, and every day seems to uncover another ten lol.

And amongst all the work, we managed to sneak away for a beautiful trip over to Lelepa Island.

This whole chapter feels quite different for me. I'm still a sailor at heart, but I'm slowly learning what it means to put roots down somewhere too. To plant things, build things, care for a piece of land and imagine what it might look like a few years from now.

There’s a long way to go, but we’re both bloody excited.
