Nurse here - as Samantha said Surgicel is a great option. Telfa is another great option, it is a non-adherent dressing. Although not the most absorbent.. would want to put some gauze on top of it too. Or Adaptic which is a mesh impregnated with vaseline. OR!! since all these medical supplied might be hard to get you can make your own Adaptic and load up your gauze with vaseline so it won't stick. If you only have gauze definitely change the dressing daily to make sure your skin doesn't heal to the gauze. Although daily dressings aren't optimal for wound healing unless your dressing is soiled. Wounds need moisture to heal and don't love to be disturbed. Anyways! loved the episode. Thanks guys!

Looks like a great sail you all had! Sister is a med student / I’m a Biomedical engineer - recommend Surgicel for wounds like Riley’s - it’s an oxidized cellulose material (aka another skin) can stay on your finger until your fingers heals and your skin “pushes” it off. Will also help stop the bleeding! Fair winds and safe sailing!!

You guys need some proper wound dressings on board including hydrocolloid (google it) dressings. There are a few different brands. Bandaid does it as their Advanced Healing products but there are lots of others too. Too far away from medical help too much of the time to not have these on board. Easily available at any pharmacy. Get your fam and friends to ship some out to you. ASAP !!!!

Hey crew what you need is a a wound cream as the primary dressing directly onto the wound bed that will help prevent infection, this will also keep it moist and a wet wound heals quicker and better than a dry wound, a non adhesive dressings as the secodary dressing, my go to is interpose as you can cut it to any size and won't become a part of you Riley :) and then a tertiary dressing to keep it in place, mefix is always a good option, can cut to any size as well, make sure you round the edges of your tertiary dressing, that way it won't peel off. Great video! For Riley's finger you need a primary dressing that's non adhesive to put on top of the cream first.

Well there it is never dull on board with you guys. Riley becoming one with the mesh monster, mosquitoes carrying lord knows what all, running aground and now pirates! Holding my breath till next episode and praying I don’t get a “Go Fund Me” request from you because of the pirates!
