Realistic Smoke 4.0

4.0 is out for Tuner tier members and for everyone who bought Realistic Smoke on its own. Same zip for both. If you own the mod, this update is yours.

WHAT CHANGED

Tire smoke is a volumetric cloud

- Tire smoke is no longer flat sprites. It is one body of smoke, drawn as a cloud and lit by the sun and the sky, with shading in the creases and bright tops where the sun hits it.

- It forms around the spinning wheels, rolls along the ground, and grows into a bank around the car on a long burnout.

- It keeps the 3.x directions, tuned against real burnout footage: the low sheet off the tire, the curl out of the wheel arch, the rising core, and the cloud that keeps building after you lift.

Smoke builds up over seconds

- Thickness follows tire heat over about four seconds. A burnout starts as thin wisps and turns into a wall of smoke. A short chirp stays a chirp.

Your lights show in the smoke

- Headlights cut beams through the cloud.

- Tail, brake, and reverse lamps light the smoke behind the car.

- RGB underglow tints the smoke around the car in its live colours, from dusk on. In daylight the sun washes underglow out, as in real life.

Safety nets

- If the volumetric renderer cannot start on your PC, tire smoke falls back to the 3.x sprite smoke.

- If you also run the Volumetric Particles mod, Realistic Smoke leaves tire smoke to that mod, so you never get doubled smoke.

Unchanged

- Brake, exhaust, diesel, and dust smoke work as they did in 3.1. The app and your saved settings are the same.

INSTALLING

1. Delete your old Realistic Smoke zip from the mods folder (realistic_smoke.zip, and realistic_smoke_optimized.zip if it is still there). Two copies will fight.

2. Put Realistic_Smoke-Tuner.zip in the mods folder.

3. Restart the game once.
