One Pink Shell, One Wish… and One Very Close Morning | 4 Elements: The Fire EP 4
Fai and Kaphrao's island adventure takes an unexpectedly tender turn. While exploring the beach together, Kaphrao tells Fai about a local legend surrounding the elusive pink shell—a shell so rare that anyone lucky enough to find one is granted a single wish.
Against the odds, Kaphrao actually finds one, turning the legend into a quiet symbol of everything beginning to change between them. But when circumstances leave the longtime rivals stranded together overnight, their usual defenses begin to slip. Forced into close quarters, the distance between them—both literally and emotionally—becomes smaller than ever, culminating in a morning where they wake up face-to-face and perhaps a little too comfortable for two people who insist they can't stand each other.
What began as rivalry is quickly becoming something neither of them can keep pretending isn't there.

Episode 4 starts as Fai, Kaphrao, Boonsong and Bua are reaching the private island by boat. Kaphrao once again ignores Fai’s helping hand as she gets off by herself. Bua quickly runs to her mother and hugs her, who is asking Fai if her daughter behaved, but she claims that she’s been a great help. She asks who that pretty lady is beside her (meaning Kaphrao), and Fai explains that she was sent by her father to help her with work. And Bua claims she’s the roommate she told her mother about – the pretty one. She then requests that Bua collaborates with herself in the kitchen to prepare something for the young master. They walk off to leave Boonsong with Fai and Kaphrao. Boonsong wants to know if they will stay for the night, but Fai thinks she will just show Kaphrao around and then go back, and he invites them to dinner before they leave and tells them to enjoy their day. Kaphrao is happy to be on the island and takes many pictures, with Fai arguing that she loves to poke people around like when she was seven, arguing that this is her family private island, and Akanee let the villager live her for free, in exchange for them looking after the island in their stead. Kaphrao claims the island is beautiful, so natural. Fai warns her that the shells lying on the beach are quite sharp, but Kaphrao isn’t a kid anymore and can take care of herself, she claims. Fai mocks that Kaphrao is an expert sent by her dad, and Kaphrao claims to work, and not to pick a fight like someone around here, and asks Fai if the princess’s cabin is far, with Fai asking if she wants to go back but Kaphrao claims she was just asking, but Fai makes a motion indicating that she talks too much, with Kaphrao pretending to kick her ass. They reach the cabin bickering (of course), and Fai claims it holds a lot of memories, mentioning that Lom brought blew to hide from the traitors here, but those thugs still came after them when they found out, she argues that bullets flew everywhere as they were escaping and claims it was just like a scene from an action movie. Lom even got shot and fell into the sea with Blew jumping off the boat to save her, she mentions matter-of-factly, and Kaphrao claims that Fai surely knows a lot about it with Fai mentioning she was there to help them, but Kaphrao not believing it. She visits the cabin and finds it charming, finding clothes there. Fai mentions that they are Lom and Blew’s who come her often and are quite close with the villagers. Kaphrao wants to build more cabin like this one and use the princess story as a selling point, so that visitors would have a similar experience. But she fears that it might affect the villager’s way of living and argues more visitor means that this place will become less peaceful. Fai is surprised that she cares about other people, but Kaphrao claims that Fai would just do anything as she pleases as this island is hers. But Fai claims that she’s not a selfish person, unlike someone who believes the owner of this island to be nothing but a crook. Kaphrao doesn’t respond to that and asks Fai if there is anything else they can use as a selling point, and Fai arguing that they have pink sea shells there if she wants to see them. They walk back to the beach as Kaphrao starts to check the sea shells on it, with Fai arguing if she finds a pink one, she can make a wish, and proposes that she looks for it. But Fai clearly doesn’t believe she will find one as the beach is littered with white and cream-colored ones. But she finds one to Fai’s astonishment, and can make a wish now. She wishes the project to become successful and everyone to be happy, but as she wishes it, lightning comes down and it starts to rain. They seek shelter in a nearby cave, and Fai claims that it’s the monsoon season where they get more rainy than sunny days, but argues that the rain will pass soon – they just have to wait for the rain to stop, and calls her a nitwit and even repeats it as she finds out that Kaphrao doesn’t like it. Kaphrao asks whose stuff it is in the cave, and Fai claims it’s hers and mentions that when she wants to spend some time on the island, she either sets up a tent or sleeps in the cave. Kaphrao calls her a hermit, but Fai claims it’s called being “indie” as she gets a call. It’s Boonsong who wants to know where they are, and Fai reports that they seeked shelter from the rain in a cave. Boonsong wants to pick them up there, but Fai looks at Kaphrao argues that it’s too dangerous and tells him they will come back once the rain lets up. Boonsong tells her to call her if there is something unusual right away, Fai promises him that and hangs up. Fai argues with Kaphrao that they may have to sleep in the cave if the rain doesn’t let up, and Kaphrao argues she’s not a hermit like Fai, but Fai argues that it was her who wanted to come there is the first place, hands her a dry shirt and starts to change into a dry shirt herself. Kaphrao gets shy and turns red, but Fai tells her to change herself and if she’s shy, she can change behind a rock. Kaphrao is angry, but flustered. Later, she sits some distance away from Fai, and Fai teases her she might get spooked, but Kaphrao argues that she will knock its teeth out. But Bua arrives carrying umbrellas for them all to pick them up. Kaphrao is happy, but Fai has obviously planned for them to spend the night in the cave. As they arrive back at the fishmen’s village the rain has stopped, but Bua claims the weather is just like that and argues that the waves are too strong to go offshore and they have to stay overnight. Kaphrao is sad that they can’t go home, but Bua argues that sometimes the storm lasts for up to a week. Fai tells her not to dare make that face, arguing that they are stuck there because she’s being stubborn. They return to the princess’s cabin, and Fai hands her some of Blew’s clothes to change into, but Kaphrao doesn’t want to use someone else’s belongings without their permission, and Fai tells her to remain in her rotten outfit if she too proud to wear someone else’s clothes, and argues that she is going to shower and change because they are stinking like a walking dustbin. She claims that her face also stinks and tells her to follow her if she changes her mind. She tells her to make it quick because she doesn’t like to wait and to wash her hair because it got wet from the rain, and Kaphrao wants her to shower first so she doesn’t keep rushing her, but she let’s her shower first anyway. Kaphrao is surprised to find out that she knows how to be nice and goes to shower. Later, Kaphrao asks Fai if she doesn’t anywhere else to stay, and Fai tells her to stop being so fussy, and tells her to sleep in the cave instead if she wants to, but Kaphrao just doesn’t want to sleep with her. Fai claims that when she was young she had to throw her out of her room almost every day, wants to go to sleep, and tells her to be a guard dog if she doesn’t want to join her in bed, and throws over a pillow. She reluctantly joins her on the mattress and lays down besides her, who hogs the blanket. Back at home, Akanee finds out that Fai and Kaphrao went to the island, and they have to stay overnight because of a storm. Akanee wants to know if anyone told Panee yet, but she comes right over to accuse Akanee a forcing Fai to be with Kaphrao again, and warns him that if Fai even has a tiny scratch on her she will punish Kaphrao for it. Akanee points out the her niece is also his daughter and that he’s worried about her too, but she accuses him of always taking Kaphrao’s side and of loving her more than his own child. But Akanee claims it’s because of Panee that Fai always gets him wrong. Panee argues that Kaphrao keeps bringing Fai troubles, and that’s why she wants Fai to stay away from her. But Akanee asks her has she ever asked Fai what she wants? Panee claims to have always chosen best for her, because she loves her the most, and Akanee storms off. In the morning, Fai wakes up first to find Kaphrao next to her hugging her arm, and she just marvels at her for a while, until Bua arrives but she gestures her away and carefully moves her arm out of Kaphrao’s hug to join Bua downstairs. She asks if they can go home today, and Bua confirms it claiming they will leave before noon. Fai wants to know if there isn’t any storm coming that day, then tells Bua to tell Boonsong… Kaphrao wakes up to Fai standing over her asking her if she’s having a good time, claiming she though that she would sleep until the next day. She tells her to get up and stop dawdling and go shower so that they can have breakfast. Kaphrao notices the bright sky and asks if they can go back that day, but Fai claims that they can’t yet, and tells her to ask Boonsong if she wants to know more. Kaphrao doesn’t want to be stuck there, arguing that staying there one more day is more than enough, but Fai argues that they have to stay anyway, and tells her to blame it on herself because she didn’t heed her advice. She tells her to swim ashore if she’s dying to leave, but Kaphrao would have done that the day before if she could. Kaphrao calls her a jerk. Bua, her parents, Fai, and Kaphrao are sitting together having breakfast (wearing Lom and Blew’s clothes) as Kaphrao asks if they can go home today, and Bua’s mother claims they can – but Boonsong and Bua quickly point out that they can’t, claiming that the storm is hitting pretty hard. Boonsong tells her not to let the bight sky fool her and argues that a storm is now forming in the middle of the sea, and Bua argues that the wind is strong enough to blow crabs off the rocks, having witnessed it herself. She argues that if they leave right now, they will get blown off course all the way south to Malaysia. Bua claims it’s nice to be stuck an the island which has such a romantic vibe, but Fai wants her to stop. Later, Kaphrao sits on a piece of wood looking at the sea as Fai comes over, and tells her to quit making a face, or the people her might think she’s not treating her well. Kaphrao wants to go home, but Fai claims that the next day, Boonsong will take them home, and Kaphrao is happy that they will return, but Fai wants to know if she really hates being stuck there with her that much, and Kaphrao confirms it claiming Fai feels the same, and Fai admits that of course, she does – she can’t wait to get her out of her face, and tells her to get up and not keep her waiting. Kaphrao wants to know what the hell is wrong with her. Later, they are having a picknick with Bua and her family. Fai drinks heavily (of the herbal liquor from “The Air”) and accuses Kaphrao of being stuck there because of her, which Kaphrao finds annoying, but Fai laments that Kaphrao is stubborn and never listens to anything she says. Kaphrao argues that she’s getting so wasted that she might choke on her own vomit, but Fai argues that she really doesn’t know her at all, hands her a drink, and in the end forces in down her throat. She hands her another drink and calls her a wimp, which triggers Kaphrao’s competitiveness, so they try to drink each other under the non-existent table. Later, they are dancing limbo with Fai collapsing under the bar, with Kaphrao struggling to help her home after that asking her if she can’t walk properly. They falls onto the bed with Fai hugging her tightly and not letting her go, but dragging her back again as she tries to leave. Kaphrao remembers the time when they were young, where she tried to sleep in Fai’s bed, but Fai first threw her out, with Fai eventually having enough of her cries and letting her back in if she stops crying. This got Kaphrao to stop crying, and Fai put up a barrier splitting the bed in half using plushies, and telling her not to touch her or she will throw her out again. But after Fai fell asleep, Kaphrao removed the plushies, moved closer to her and spooned with her. Fai is asking herself in her sleep if Kaphrao hated her that much, then claims that she is sorry as she presses her lips against Kaphrao’s. In the morning, they are lying in each other’s arms, as Fai wakes up shocked, but then smiles and quickly closes her eyes again as Kaphrao wakes up and is equally shocked, and drags away from her startled as Fai opens up her eyes (again), asking what she did. Kaphrao claims she didn’t do anything, claiming that Fai was so drunk the night before, and Fai laying back relaxed to ask her if they did sleep together. Kaphrao claims that she is nuts and hits her with a pillow, and argues that’s because she said something disgusting. But Fai claims to know that Kaphrao tried to take advantage of her, which Kaphrao vehemently denies, but Fai claims she woke up in her arms. Kaphrao argues that it was Fai who got drunk and molested her, but Fai finds that ridiculous and wants proof. Kaphrao argues she doesn’t even fancy her one bit, and Fai claims it’s the same for her. They return to Boonsong ready to go home, and Fai claims to have sobered up. Bua joins them, and Fai admits she thought she wouldn’t go back with them, but Bua claims she wouldn’t miss it. She hugs her parents and promises to bring back ten sons-in-law when she returns, and her mother tells her to bring back one for her as well, but she’s just joking. She tells her to continue working for Fai. Boonsong also tells Kaphrao to visit again, and she promises to come back if she has a chance, and Fai promises her to get there again for sure, arguing that she will get sick of the island as she continues to help her with the project. But Kaphrao will never back down from work, she claims. They then return to the boat to get back to the mainland, and this time Kaphrao takes the hand that Fai offers (to not fall into the water, she claims) and stumbles into her arms as she gets onto the boat. After a moment she frees herself, and they return to the mainland. Panee learns that Fai and Kaphrao have returned – and decides to talk to Kaphrao first, accusing her of causing trouble for Fai against her vows, and tells her not to talk back to her as she wants to explain it, calling her as rude as ever. Bua claims that the storm was terrible, but Panee doesn’t want to talk to her, so she cuts her off, and maintains that Kaphrao put her niece in trouble and also in danger, and also doesn’t want to hear her apologies. Kaphrao asks her what she wants her to do, and Panee smiles and claims she asks for it herself. Bua later informs Fai that she needs to help Kaphrao because Panee is mad that she took her away from her, punishing her. Fai claims she doesn’t think that Panee will listen to her, but she will find a way to help her. Yod also informs Akanee that Panee is punishing her and claims she is in the garden right now… …where Kaphrao is cutting grass with a hedge trimmer in the burning sun, just as Fai comes over helping her out with a motorized trimmer, claiming at this rate she will be at it till the following year. Kaphrao fears that if Panee sees them together, she will be more furious and asks her not to make it worse for her, but Fai argues that it’s also her fault that Kaphrao got punished, and claims she will take half of that punishment. Kaphrao looks at her as she finds out that she probably helped her before… …because back when they were young, Panee gave Kaphrao the task to pluck out weeds with her own hands until two worker took her to lunch. And when she returned all the weeds had been plucked already, leaving Kaphrao to ask how that is possible. Kaphrao wants to know if Fai helped her back then, but Fai denies it arguing why would she help her, she didn’t do anything wrong back then. Kaphrao asks her to say “thank you” to that person for her, but she claims she can’t do that. Kaphrao then says “thank you” directly to her – for her current help, she claims. Akanee sees Fai helping Kaphrao and is happy that there is nothing to worry about now, and hopes that thing will get even better in the future, as it should have been a long time ago. After cutting the grass, Fai lies down on it under the shadow of a tree, claiming that she’s totally beat because she did most of the work. Kaphrao claims that she didn’t ask for her help, but Fai thinks it would have taken her years to finish it, if she had done it alone. She wants to, go but Fai argues is she really going to leave her there because she came to help her. Kaphrao wants to drag her up, but Fai drags her down instead. And as they are lying next to each other, the episode ends. ______ This was a completely different kind of island adventure from Phatpha/Wind, with Kaphrao and Fai bickering from dawn till after sunset, but we learn that Fai had her light moments back in the day, and Kaphrao really considered her a big sister. Now, the question is what Kaphrao feels now, and the bickering doesn’t help, plus, Panee is going to interfere for sure. But Fai needs to first confess her feelings to Kaphrao which will certainly be nerve-wracking for her as Kaphrao probably wouldn’t even consider her a friend, let alone a girlfriend. Next week, it looks like we are getting jealousy again, at least from Fai’s side. 😊
