5 Unique Wooden Ships & their Owners - Episode 118

A visit to the Wooden Boat Festival with our friend Pete last November sounded like a fantastic filming opportunity and we were so glad we'd brought our cameras along!

We were in total admiration of the boat owners and boat builders we met at the festival. Their boats truly are floating, and also highly functional, works of art. We hope you all enjoy our trip to the festival as much as we did filming and putting it together.

Loved the wooden boats! I love architecture as appreciation but mind mind is engineering. The steam engine was captivating, so I looked it up. I hope you. Pascale, Troy, and friends enjoy the beautiful mechanics involved as much as I. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTtEF1hWq0s

Being able to see so much of the reciprocating processes, combined with the sights and smells make for quite an experience. Steam engines and their operators are also much more connected than internal combustion engines.

Wooden boats are intoxicating! I have an unhealthy passion for them! Thank you for this wonderful episode showing the beautiful boats and wonderful people who make, restore, and maintain them. I owned one long enough to be hooked, but have decided my pocketbook and life circumstances suggest plastic will yield a good deal more time sailing while still having a family to come home too!

A wooden boat can certainly be an expensive mistress in terms of time and money. I think they must be a passion rather than a passing whim. The feel and smell below decks is incredible and very homely. I served on a wooden boat I helped rebuild partially and will never forget how I could interpret every sound on her. As engineer, I could make out every load on the Genset and even the cycling of the freezers. I'm not sure if that is up or downside!

A true labor of love. That was one of my jobs back in the day restoring wooden boats. Now I focus more on the word Love, and less labor. Thank god for fiberglass. Another great video.

It's great that you carry those skills with you though. Still plenty of fine work to do even on GRP yachts.

There's another little one in Tasmania this weekend but we can't make it. We will try to get an interview with the wooden boat school down here if we can.

What beauties they all are. I hope that the Acorn to Arabella Gentlemen and Tally Ho's Leo watch this and get some (more) inspiration!

If they are building wooden boats they might not have time for more inspiration!

I can't believe we didn't see you there! Too much time chatting below decks perhaps.
