What happens at the reef stays at the reef... Episode 105

Join us for the highlights of our final incredible week at Lady Musgrave Island in the Capricorn Bunker Group.

Featuring our sail to the nearby Fairfax Isles, a humpback whale introducing her newborn calf to dolphins, how we sail off anchor in close quarters, Pascale reeling in a Spanish Mackerel, battery maintenance, squid fishing, feeding a Giant Cod and more!

We hope you enjoy it...

Troy and Pascale

So beautiful it’s painful to watch sometimes. But keep em coming. Do you mind sharing the specs on your SUP? Are you happy with it?

It's a TAHWALHI XL SUP 10'6". It paddles well and holds both of us. We haven't thrashed it like most of our stuff but it is holding up well with light use. No glue problems. I'm not sure our opinion counts for much with SUP boards, we just got a middle of the road model based on cost and popularity. Pascy has had some happy hours on it and it is very efficient if kneeled on and paddled like a Canadian canoe.

I was on my buddy's home built trimaran, sailing from Maui to Oahu. A mama humpback and her calf went right around us! Very little wind that day! ;-). The return trip some months later was the the source of my only real "sea story'. " There we were.... ;-) (I was VERY glad to get ashore that night!)

It can cause a bit of nerves when a baby humpback really wants to get a closer look at the boat but mum has decided that's a bad idea and stuffs herself in between. I once got a good look at a mother Humpback on one side of the hull and a loooong flipper waving out the other side. [GULP!]

Most excellent video. I loved the music and it looked like so much fun. The intro was amazingly well polished as well. TY for sharing with us.

Thank you Joseph! We took a bit of time to write and prepare that intro. So glad that our efforts have been appreciated! Pasc

Stepped production up a notch and a bit! Initial reaction was the intro was too slick. Resolved now. It’s fantastic and will broaden commercial appeal. Please go to Lorde Howe at some point. Thanks.

Cheers Mark! We really want to visit Lord Howe but also have to tick off a summer in Tassie so might be pressed for time this year, we'll see how we go, so much to see of this wonderful country of ours. Pasc

Oh wow! They're all great, but this epispde was spectacular! The diving footage at the reefs along with Troy's narration, and then the drone footage of the Whales could have easily passed for prime time TV here in the states, and was much better than most of it! Sailing off anchor and out of the reef was fantastic! And I learned a good deal from the Lead Acid Battery course 101 too ;) And I'll be able to put that to good use on my new to me Venture 25, currently doing a minor refit and working on the batteries and charging system among many other projects. Thank you friends, for all the motivation, and an excellent start to my weekend!

We always love to hear when people are leaving to have their own adventures. We appreciate all of your suggestions along the way as well as the financial support. Good luck in India, we're sure it will be extremely rewarding. Hope you still get to follow our journeys in the future and we will be interested to hear how everything went if you have a moment to drop us a message. Take care Rob, Troy & Pascale

Fantastic again T&P. It's made my Friday lunch very enjoyable. Have you thought about uploading your more spectacular fish/whale footage to something like videoblocks.com? you then get paid when people download and use your footage.... just a thought

T
Troy and Pascale · October 26, 2019

Yeah we have. We've got a lot of great drone and underwater footage that we were putting aside to upload on stock footage sites! Thanks for the suggestion on video blocks we hadn't heard of it.

Troy and Pascale · October 25, 2019

Thanks for the heads up Paul. We will scoot down to Broken Harbour this morning. There's a bit we want to see down there.

Your videos just get better each time. Loved the underwater and drone shots, whales and dolphins are always great to see. Hope you had a nice time at Broughton Island, where are you now?

T
Troy and Pascale · October 25, 2019

We did a quiet stop in Newcastle to see some friends then it's off to Gosford. We were thinking of stopping in Lake Macquarie but we are on a bit of a time limit so we will do a day sail to Broken Harbour.
