This Photo Is A Perfect Renaissance Painting
Do you remember this bizarre viral photo taken in 2015 at one of the first Trump Rallies? The longer you look at it, the stranger it gets! Wanted to make a short video unpacking and appreciating it.
Update: I will likely NOT post this video on YouTube – simply because the image of Trump is so toxic and politicized. So this one is exclusive for you guys. I promise the video ITSELF is not toxic though lol. And I hope you enjoy. Maybe I'll tackle this subject with different packaging in the future – maybe more a deep dive into "Accidental Renaissance" from a different angle.

I thought this was a genuinely awesome breakdown, super fascinating to watch. Thank you for sharing it, and hopefully you'll be able to share it on YouTube in future when things are a bit less politically heated 😅🙈
Really love this video and how you capture a story out of a photo instead of a movie or something more typical it is an absolutely wild photo that was captured and it does speak so poignantly to where our country is right now unfortunately. thank you for making this tho!
This is a great video. Somehow I missed this particular photo, despite it being 11 years ago now. This was a really interesting take on it, and it makes me want to paint it with a more "toga and flowers" vibe. I'm excited to be a part of this patreon.
Welcome to the community, and thanks for your generosity. Yeah this photo was super viral for like a week when it was taken, then it kinda disappeared. I always talk about it show it to people though. I found out while researching this video that the photographer passed just a couple months ago actually, so I was hoping it would kind of honour him.
Great video as always. An interesting take on the picture on its own terms without wading into the politics. I hadn't heard of "accidental renaissance" before this.
I think I'll pivot this concept to a more general "accidental renaissance" video. It's actually pretty fascinating. Photography videos have never really taken off on my channel, but I still wanna do it
Not sure if this is to obvious to be helpful but thinking what i'd see as your brand/niche philosophy and medialiteracy come to mind.
Interesting, that checks out
Thanks for sharing this! Expert analysis, expert use of sound effects👌🏽
Lol yeah, had to do it
I'm a little worried whether you should post this video to YouTube. I like what you are saying, I like the topic of this video, I like the structure. But it has TRUMP in bold letters written all over it. And you are just mildly addressing this with "apolitical". But viewers will immediately associate you and your channel with Trump, maybe even pro Trump. And I'm a little concerned you might damage you brand with this. You just don't do content like this often enough to give it some perspective for viewers. Most of your other videos are about Sci-Fi, so I'm afraid posting this might carry more weight than you might intend.
Yeah, thanks for saying this. Tbh, I'm already leaning away from posting this on YT for that reason. The video isn't about Trump, but he's in the thumbnail, and at the end of the day, his image is so toxic that it won't matter - people will just see the political first. I already have another video prepared to publish this week in anticipation of this, but I thought I'd share on Patreon anyway, cause I know you guys aren't just reactionary, and this photo IS genuinely so fascinating. As for "my brand" – that is something I'm thinking long and hard about this week. I'm 2 years in, and I don't really know what my brand is. I write on such a range of subjects, that I don't really have a "niche" in the traditional sense on YouTube. And that is very confusing to the algorithm, which very often doesn't know who to show my videos to. Long term, the channel will suffer from this. My original thinking with this video was to INTENTIONALLY do something that is way out of left field. If I lost audience over it, then that's okay – because I want my channel to have the freedom to publish surprising content. But you're probably right that this particular video is just not the right subject for that strategy lol. See this is what I love about the Patreon community here. I appreciate the honest feedback - like a good friend telling me what I need to hear.
Accidental Renaissance and Intentional Plague! ;-)
I'm so pleasantly surprised that you are a fan of 'accidental renaissance' photos and grateful for this thoughtful video. This is a compelling case. My wife and I got married at the end of last August, and our photographer asked us each if we had one dream photo from the day, what would it be? My answer was for a wide accidental renaissance-esque/last supper-esque photo of the bridal party during dinner. We did have to stage it ever so slightly, but it ended up being one of my favorite photos of the day. It captured what we wanted the day to be: a gathering of our favorite people enjoying each other's company. A nice contrast to the zillion other ultra-purposeful pictures we posed for that day!
