Making the most ridiculous renaissance pants!
Based on the response to the teaser in my last post, you guys are just as excited about these as I am lol!
These were an impromptu project inspired by a new book, and a recent fabric purchase. They went together really quickly and easily - one evening to draft, two days to sew, and one morning to stitch the eyelets. Which is a miracle, since they are completely different from anything I've made before, and pretty complicated to construct!
I ended up enjoying the process a lot (probably in part to it going so smoothly) and I LOVE the finished product. The pants are so ridiculous, they make me want to do a little dance.
I think there are more renaissance pants in my future, given how much I like these. Luckily this book has TONS of additional fashion plates/paintings to use for inspiration. Here are some of my favorites...
My favorite part of women's renaissance costumes are the sleeves. And these ensembles require the same techniques and have the same details...but from head-to-toe! I find them so delightful, I want to make all of them.
But I should probably finish a jacket to go with these pants, first. So stay tuned for that!

Trunk hose or round hose, short padded hose. Very short trunk hose were worn over cannions, fitted hose that ended above the knee. Slops or galligaskins, loose hose reaching just below the knee. Trunk hose and slops could be paned or pansied, with strips of fabric (panes) over a full inner layer or lining. Pansied slop is a round hose characterized by the addition of a layer of panes, or strips of fabric running from the waistband to the leg band. These are commonly referred to as "pumpkin" pants. Pluderhosen, a Northern European form of pansied slops with a very full inner layer pulled out between the panes and hanging below the knee.[1] Originating in Germany, Pluderhosen soon spread to central and Eastern Europe.[2] Venetians, semi-fitted hose reaching just below the knee.
I think maybe some Pluderhosen or pumpkin pants could be a fun halloween project! 😋😂
Love the pants! Very nice to see the creative process, as always. The fabrics work well too. Hope you will make a doublet to match.
Those pants are glorious!
Please make more! I love these pants.
I just love these pants they are funny and beautiful and just amazing
These are spectacular!!
This was great! Love the pants, looking forward to see the top. And will be there a hat? ;)
What fun. Also a good stash buster.
These hose(?) are hilarious. Yes Please! Would love to see a top/doublet/whatever you plan to match/go with these hose. I so wish I could buy silk in Australia for less than $65 per meter. The only time I've felt silk is when I bought swatches. Just to know what dupioni/taffeta/...looks likes and feels. So glad you had fun making these. We had fun watching you makes these. 😀 Stay safe and look after yourself. Sending best wishes from Down Under 🌺❤️🇦🇺😎
These pants are so much fun. I’ve never seen anything like them. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a top.
Omg these made me happy! They're hilarious, I wish we could wear pants like this all the time...
These are nuts! They’re so awesome!
