Two Hoops in Two Days! 1780s & 1870s Foundations
I've had a busy month finishing off two big projects. One of which you'll have already seen, my historical Rapunzel, and another you'll see next week - something based on a ballet costume illustration from the 1860s.
With those done, I'm gearing up for some new projects, and needed some new foundations to use for them. Which lead to this video: making something suitable to stick under an 1870s and 1780s dress.
I think it was pretty successful, though after editing this I think the hoops on the 1780s one need to come in more, so it doesn't slope outward as much at the back/hem. But that should be an easy fix. The 1870s one could use a bit more volume in the bustle portion, too, but the final garment will exaggerate that as well.
You'll see the designs I have in mind to go atop these tomorrow, in a monthly update!

I keep on thinking the double dotted fabric is covered in red and white pill capsules XD
Isn´t it a little lobster tail that you´re trying to make...
The pink one, if you have more other metal with the same width. Is there more space in each ring if needed, or a half, only for the front side, double metal is more weight on the whole rings, instead of a weight bag. Where it can be in the may. sorry google translate is so annoying, hope this can de understood. =)
That with white dots, a half one might work.
Me, me... love see videos, for now I'm so so curious...and what do you do with fabric that is reminiscent of some country flags, blue, red and white?
I would like to see the weird projects too! Also, I was wondering if you didn't bone all the way across the front, like stop about 3 or 4" past the sides from the back and just have the boning across the back, would that accomplish the flatter front that you want?
Would love to see videos about your summer projects :)
I'm not a costume maker but I am an engineer so I was wondering... if you always have issues with the front flaring out too much instead of staying straight, why not making it out of a heavy(er) fabric (upholstery, canvas, etc)? It might not add enough weight but it should definetely contribute to the effect.
Another great video! Thank you. I'd also like to see your weird project video. All the best to you.
I’d watch just about anything you put out! I’d love to see some of the weirder videos; very intrigued!
Quick tip on-screen recording on your mac, if you open the QuickTime programme, you can go 'file > new screen recording' to get a higher quality screen recording! Hope this helps
I would also love to see the weird projects! Once again I really liked your fabric choices for the petticoats. I'm wondering if anyone tried to use basket-weaving stuff for boning? I'm wondering if that could be shaped by wetting/steaming/drying it, and it would retain a very specific shape more easily than the metal boning? But it also sounds like a lot of work to shape each bone, so I don't know, just a thought! Thank you for taking us along!
Yes please weird stuffed dog video.
I too vote for other projects 🙃 Loved that outro. Take care. Sending best wishes from Down Under ❤️🌺🇦🇺😎

I request the weird videos please!
I'd rather see more sewing...
