Devlog #7
I'm back again with another devlog and I've mostly been learning about perspective, which turns out to be some form of unadulterated torture. So here we go!
I honestly can't believe the levels of tomfoolery that my past backgrounds have had, but I made lots of updates to the cabin, so I'm making Jim's house real nice and cozy for all of us. Just like in my devlog header, I really was doing perspective by vibes, which turns out to be a little wonky. Again, it's nice to see my skills improving so obviously. but it is hilarious and charming looking back. I had to redo the entire living room area because it just made no fucking sense with perspective and Jim's sprite. I've been working as hard as I can on those and hopefully these backgrounds will be able to take me to the end of the game!
The same goes for Jim's sprite. I've been working very hard on refining everything and making things consistent, which hasn't always been my strong suit. So I'm still working on him, but I'm in a pretty good place where I can show you guys now. Hopefully once I tie down his sprite, I want to at least go for a couple more in-game days before I revamp all of the art haha. I took an embarrassingly long amount of time working on his face to make it feel like Jim, if that makes sense. I literally spent days working, going insane, on his face proportions until I was happy with it. And I still might change it around a bit more. So don't get too attached to this face lol.
I had to show you guys this bc it was killing me. It looks like the Jim's are gossiping about you lmao.
When I start losing steam while working on the game assets, I give myself a little treat by taking off clothes on the sprite lmaooo. Truly, it's been very effective as a motivation technique. I 100% recommend it.
It's a lot of fun rendering all of these art assets, but it does take a long time. So I appreciate everyone's patience with me. Cheers.

Any improvement in any given time is still progress and you've done amazing. I always found the background charming and it's even more cozy now. Your perspective is great! ✨ The Jimmy Jombos are judging hard, but we won't. 🤗

Ohh! If we be doing questions here...if its not TOO spoilery... I remembered an ask awhile back about HIM, you mentioned you could think of some songs Jim would listen to while thinking about MC, can you share any of those? Totally not gonna use song lyrics for psuedo song animatics. ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿

i’m not sure if this counts as spoilers, but will we see more info about jim’s parents/siblings through the game? or through your comics? i’m really interested to see what kind of life he had before moving to the cabin :)
Ill prob save the bulk of that in game for now. I was tempted to show off his family. Fun for later.
this is very random but i’m kinda curious, does jim have a favorite bird? a favorite animal perhaps?
He likes barn owls. And his favorite animal is a dog, specifically his dog.

i had some time to sit and think and got a few more questions if you don’t mind answering them 😅 does jim canonically have a middle name? also when he takes on jobs for money does he ever build relations with the people he works with or does he mainly stick to himself? i can see jim having an acquaintance like relationship with an older shop keeper man who lets him sell his carvings at his store :)
I don't have a middle name for him rn annnd he mostly just minds his business. He don't go there often and he just a real socially awkward guy. He tries to be polite and smaller. But ya boy is pretty low on friends :,)

I'm not an artist, but I know friends who are and they also struggle with perspective 😭 I'm also looking forward to replaying the game once the next day is out! Seeing the difference is such a rad thing to experience as you grow!
i love the amount of new definition the backgrounds will have ❤️ really appreciate your patience and dedication towards the game background are r o u g h. also hydra jim omg 😭 they look so sassy. just out of curiosity, do you mind when people ask questions about jim on your posts? or is asking through tumblr more of a preference? obviously not things eluding to the story and spoilers, but smaller things like his preferences and such?
At this point, I'm mostly only active here on patreon, so here is fine! I occasionally (rarely T.T) answer tumblr asks.
I look forward to going back and redrawing all my Jim's to be more accurate =w=
