Babelith is now everywhere — v0.62.98
Babelith is now everywhere — v0.62.98
Hey everyone,
Since the last big update I've shipped 160 releases, and almost all of that
work went into one idea: Babelith, the translator that lives INSIDE the game.
It used to work only on Godot. It now runs on Ren'Py, RPG Maker MV/MZ and
Unity too — and on Unity it fully replaces XUnity. No third-party mod, no
keeping the app open while you play. You install it once and the game
translates itself while you play it.
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT BUILT
The whole game, translated before you get there.
Babelith now scans the entire game the moment you launch it. On RPG Maker it
loads and translates every map at startup — even in encrypted games, where the
offline translator simply cannot reach. On Unity it reads the game's own data
files, so item names, quests and menus are already in your language the first
time you open them.
An in-game panel you can actually use.
Press F10 and you get a real panel, mouse and all: switch engines, pick from
208 languages, watch live counters and a scan progress bar. The panel even
translates itself into whatever language you choose.
Translation that doesn't stop.
When a translation service starts rate-limiting you, Babelith parks it for a
couple of minutes and continues with the next one in the same request:
Google -> Google gtx -> Bing. All three have to be exhausted before anything
stops, and each one gets plenty of rest to have its limit lifted.
Text inside images.
The live OCR translator reads text baked into images and translates it on
screen. Three engines to choose from: Windows OCR, PaddleOCR, or a local
vision model.
Translation that costs you nothing.
Local LLM translation through Ollama or LM Studio is now a full engine, not
just a fallback — free, private, and running on your own GPU. There's a model
browser with search and filters, plus a one-click "load optimized model"
button that configures LM Studio for your hardware.
Two new game engines.
GameMaker Studio (data.win) and packed RPG Maker XP/VX/VX Ace archives.
Arabic and Hebrew.
Right-to-left support on RPG Maker, with font injection so you get actual
letters instead of empty boxes.
THE PART NOBODY ADVERTISES
A big chunk of those 160 releases were bug hunts, and some of the things I
found would have cost you real work:
- A race condition that could wipe an entire language's saved translations.
- A connection leak that quietly killed translation after a long session.
- Cache saving that froze the game for a moment every 15 seconds.
- Text that was being re-requested every 2 minutes, forever, for nothing.
None of these were things you'd have reported as bugs. They'd just have felt
like "this is a bit janky sometimes". They're fixed, and each one has a test
so they stay fixed.
WHAT I'M WORKING ON NEXT
- Polishing Babelith on every engine, based on what you report.
- Live LLM translation inside the game.
- Exploring Android (JoiPlay and APK).
If you hit something broken, tell me. Every single one of the fixes above came
from someone saying "hey, this doesn't work" — that's worth more to me than
any feature request.
Thank you for keeping this going.
