Jealousy Reactions & Fixes

Makes Sims actually react when witnessing cheating + other sensible jealousy fixes.

Patch Resilience: Moderateℹ️

The jealousy system is severely lacking in TS4 compared to its predecessors. I'm sure we've all seen the videos comparing TS4 to past games. Inspired by Mokunoid's "Better Romantic Jealousy", but built from the ground up, this mod completely reworks the jealousy reaction system to provide more dramatic and personality-driven responses to a Sim's Romantic Boundaries being crossed.

I recommend using this mod with Romance Success Tweaks for the most optimal experience.

Note: The jealousy reactions for witnessing WooHoo are untouched for now as they are a whole separate system.

Core System Changes

  • Logical Reaction Targeting: When a romantic interaction occurs between two Sims, romantically involved Sims in the vicinity will turn their attention to the situation and react according to their Romantic Boundaries. Reactions are tied to the exact romantic interaction the Sim witnessed, preventing Sims from reacting to another couple's flirt or confronting the wrong Sim.

  • Fair Consequences: Partners/romantic interests are only labeled as cheaters if they actively accept or initiate romantic interactions. Sims are no longer blamed for rejecting unwanted advances.

  • Personality-Driven Reactions: Reactions are now influenced by a Sim’s Traits, ensuring that their behavior feels consistent with their personality.

  • Relationship-Based Jealousy Thresholds: Matching EA’s default, Sims can become jealous at 30 romance or within any official romantic relationship. With this mod, the threshold increases to 40 for Sims with Commitment Issues, Emotional Control, Unfaithful, or Kuttoe’s Stoic trait, while Jealous Sims, Sims with Uncontrolled Emotion, and teens can react at 20 romance or higher.

  • Jealousy Cooldown: After a romantic jealousy reaction, Sims receive a two-hour cooldown before they can be triggered again.

Trait-Based Reactions

  • Sims with Traits like Proper, Socially Anxious (Kuttoe) and Coward (Kuttoe) will be more likely to Walk Away when their Romantic Boundaries are crossed.

  • Sims with Traits like Argumentative, Perfectionist, and Snob will be more likely to Argue with a cheater.

  • Sims with Traits like Dramatic, Self-Absorbed, and High Maintenance will be more likely to Yell, drawing everyone's attention.

  • Sims with Traits like Hot-Headed, Mean, and Evil will be more likely to Shove an attempted homewrecker.

  • Sims with Traits like Jealous, Uncontrolled Emotions, and Paranoid will be more likely to Slap their cheating partner.

  • Sims with Traits like Self-Assured, High Self-Esteem, and Carefree will be more likely to Laugh Off any failed attempts at another person hitting on their partner.

Immediate Cheating Repercussions

  • Emotional Fallout for Cheaters: Sims caught cheating may experience temporary negative emotions such as Embarrassed, Sad, or Stressed, depending on their traits.

  • Witness Reactions: Sims who witness cheating will not only lose relationship points with their partner but also with the other Sim involved in the affair.

  • Friendship Impact: Friendship loss with the other Sim scales based on how close they were, ranging from -20 up to -50 for best friends.

  • Consistent Sentiments: All Sims involved in these situations will now gain relevant sentiments more consistently.

  • Reputation Consequences: Cheating Sims or those who flirt with someone already in a relationship may now lose reputation. Sims who respond to cheating with physical aggression risk losing a small amount of reputation as well.

  • Area Reactions: Most Sims in the vicinity will react to the confrontation of a cheater.

How Romantic Jealousy Now Works

  • When Sim A is approached by Sim C, Sim B (their partner) will place the blame on Sim C, the instigator, and wait to see how Sim A reacts.

  • If Sim A accepts advances from Sim C, Sim B will react negatively to both parties.

  • If Sim A rejects advances from Sim C, Sim B may either brush off the interaction or react negatively to Sim C, depending on their Traits.

  • If Sim A initiates a romantic interaction with Sim C, Sim B will place the blame on Sim A and become angry at Sim C only if they reciprocate.

Open Love Life Compatibility

Lumpinou's Open Love Life is now recognized by the jealousy system.

  • Triad members count as partners when reacting to outside flirts.

  • Triad members do not trigger jealousy against one another.

  • Approved side partners are exempt from jealousy in both directions.

Jealous Trait Improvements

The Jealous trait has also been reworked to reduce false Jealous Pangs and make its relationship checks more sensible.

  • Jealous Sims no longer get Jealous Pangs when their partner chats with a relative, an in-law, a child or teen, or someone of a gender the partner is not attracted to.

  • In group conversations, Jealous Pangs now check every Sim your partner is talking to, rather than only the first Sim they spoke to, which could previously cause incorrect reactions.

  • Jealous Pangs require a meaningful romantic connection to the Sim doing the talking.

    • This means a partner, fiancé, spouse, or WooHoo partner.

    • Jealous Pangs can also be triggered by a 30+ romance when that relationship is paired with a crush, Fated Mates, an enamored sentiment, or a Very Attracted relationship bit (from either Lovestruck or TURBODRIVER's mods).

  • Jealous Pangs can now trigger no more than once every two hours per Sim.

  • The Jealous trait's other effects, including feeling Confident near a partner, Tense while apart, and reactions to flirting and kissing, are unchanged.

hi, i have two sims who are not in a relationship but have an 80-90% romance bar. one of them saw the other flirting with someone else, and the romance bar immediately dropped to 15-20%. i suspect your mod could be the cause but im not 100% sure. does this mod do that?

t
tyjokr · September 16, 2026

That's base game behavior, I'm pretty sure.

Hi tyjokr! First of all, thank you so much for this amazing mod, the drama is exactly what my game needed! 🎬 I'm currently playing with a multi-exclusive triad via Lumpinou's Open Love Life and noticed that the new jealousy features don't trigger for external flirts due to the current lack of triad support. Do you think you might expand the mod's logic to cover multi-exclusive relationships in a future update? Keep up the fantastic work!

is this compatible with rpo?

t
tyjokr · July 19, 2026

Yes, you just need to turn off a certain setting. It’s outlined in the compatibility section.

any chance you’d ever make your mods compatible with chingyu’s traits?

t
tyjokr · July 24, 2026

They're not incompatible, I do take into account Chingyu's loyalty traits.

Hello! Is it possible for you to consider adding something to tune down the jealousy reactions of sims with the jealous trait in the future? Maybe so it doesn't consider sims who don't match the sexual preference or who are extended family members? I really love the depth of this mod but most mods that address the jealous trait seem to also conflict with this one.

t
tyjokr · June 1, 2026

Yes, this is something on my to-do list for sure. I notice it in my gameplay and it’s annoying af.

Hello, ever since Lumpinou's update to RPO and their Core Library (which had to do with jealousy) there seems to be incompatibility with this mod. Both work fine when the other is not installed. There are largely no jealousy reactions unless both people in the relationship are in the same household and even then sometimes nothing (regardless of traits). Maybe this is just my experience but everything worked fine up until I installed their recent update. I play tested the same scenario multiple times with both installed, one installed, and none installed. I also play tested different scenarios with different couples.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. I will look into it.

Hi there. I was having an issue where I had my sim flirting with another (not his partner), his partner was there but not reacting at all. Then when they were out at a public lot and he flirted with another his partner did react but not towards him - she started yelling at other sims she didn't even know - it was quite funny really. I did all the testing - this mod alone was working as it should so found it was conflicting when I had this mod and Turbo's WW mod installed. Anyway, maybe nothing can be done but just thought I'd let you know in case someone else has this issue too :)

Wicked Whims or Wonderful Whims?

A
Akinxo · March 24, 2026

This mod is supposed to change how a Sim reacts to another Sim talking normally with their partner, without necessarily having romantic interactions? I ask this because I installed this mod in my game, but for some reason my househould father reacted jealously to a son greeting his new partner in a friendly manner. This is the kind of situation I would like this mod to avoid. I even downloaded the Lot 51 Core Library along with the mod, so I don't know why this keeps happening.

t
tyjokr · March 25, 2026

Does the father have the Jealous trait?

Thank you for this mod, I really love it :) Is it compatible with new Pack/Update ?

t

Yes

t
tyelf · January 11, 2026

Hey, is this compatible with Lorea's Longer and Stronger Being Cheated Sentiments by Mood and Effect? I read both this mod's and their mod's descriptions thoroughly, and I don't think they'd conflict because Lorea's mod seems to focus on the length and intensity of the sentiments themselves, but I wanted to make sure. Lorea's mod is supposed to be put in the Overrides folder within the Mods folder, by the way, so that might affect something

t
tyjokr · January 11, 2026

No conflicts!

The Eyes · October 11, 2025

I'm having problems playing with this mod while i use WW. My sims like to "share each other" and don't get jealous when their loved ones get intimate with someone else, but whenever that happens my sims keep losing reputation with people as they were cheating even it their partner is okay with it. Dunno what to do since it reaches a point where they get negative reputation pretty quick with people

t
tyjokr · October 12, 2025

I'll look into this. Do your Sims have specific jealousy related traits that make them not jealous or have you disabled jealousy globally? If you they have a trait to disable jealousy, which one is it?

D
Damian · September 29, 2025

The mod isn’t working for me for some reason. When a Sim cheats, it either takes a long time for their partner to react, or they don’t react at all. Also, Sims still autonomously switch back to friendly interactions even when they’re in a fight. The mods of yours I have installed are: Deeper Social Autonomy, Social Variety, Romance Success Tweaks, and Jealousy Reactions Fixes. I also have other mods installed, but I’ve tested it both with and without them. Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

t
tyjokr · October 2, 2025

I'm not able to replicate the issue, still working for me. Are your Sims cheating via a romance interaction or a WooHoo interaction?

yasuke akira · August 25, 2025

does this randomize the cas romantic boundaries for new sims? i'm looking for a mod that does that

It does not, sorry!

Thank you! I fixed.

A
Alexia · June 27, 2025

love the mod but it is compatible with Wicked Whims and RPO Jealousy module? I use both and when the mod is installed, they simply don't react when a partner is cheating.

t
tyjokr · June 28, 2025

I have a note written to explore compatibility with RPO. It's compatible in the sense that it won't break anything, but I don't know if they work well together. It should work well with Wicked Whims, you just have to make sure Jealousy is enabled in WW settings.

Andrey · May 17, 2025

Great mod, it was missing in the game. I noticed that with the mod, when you choose a romantic interaction (checked on flirt), the conversation with another sim ends, even with a positive reaction, and you have to initiate the dialog again (happens 50/50 - sometimes the dialog continues). If the other sim initiates the flirt, the conversation may also stop (happens 50/50). This happens whether the unplayed sim has a partner or not. Only tested with and without this mod. Without the mod the dialog is not interrupted after flirting, with the mod you have to start the dialog again.

t
tyjokr · May 17, 2025

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I believe I know what's going on. I'll fix!

h
heresanameforyou · April 28, 2025

Does this work with open relationships or poly relationships when sims have either side partners that are approved or even just another partner? I noticed some mods don't consider that so automatically make the sim think they are cheating.

t
tyjokr · April 28, 2025

The mod factors in a Sim’s romantic boundaries. Jealousy wont apply to them if they have open romantic boundaries with their partner(s).

J
JoJo · January 9, 2025

Don't suppose you want to also remake Mokunoid's Better Sleep Autonomy? :-)

t
tyjokr · January 10, 2025

Just looked it up. I'm not opposed, but I think Mokunoid still intends to return to modding in the future. I can probably update it though. I imagine what broke it is the new Trait tuning requirements from Life & Death.
