Wow, soooo many thoughts about the existential angst in this show. Super interesting. Is this one we should add on?

I joined your community from watching your heartfelt reactions over on YT. I'm not typically a person who follows people beyond watching them there but your deep love for music and your openness to exploring other art medias is super comforting and it brings so much joy to me. I'm almost done watching your reactions on AOT (i binged in like a week lol) but I just want to say - I'm really glad to have found you and i'm also SO excited you gave Frieren a chance - I hope you continue to watch this anime. It's truly a masterpiece!

Yes, this is where we want to go next! LOL- I'm so happy you're watching Frieren, Tim! I wasn't expecting a reacton to it so soon honestly, so when I saw it on here I got so excited! The show definetly is one of those emotional journeys which has some wonderful characters and through them we're allowed to really learn alongside them what it means to be human, what it means to connect with others and more. The music and animation of the show is also absolutely gorgeous. There are scenes in which are animated to such an extent it'll catch you off guard as most shows likely wouldn't have put such detail into it. It's one of those shows where you can really tell that the animation studio deeply respects the source material and wishes to elevate it even further. I love this show to pieces. Everytime I leave a reply I catch myself realizing something in retrospect though. You mention that your schedule is pretty full and it's not always easy to find the time for both AOT and other things, which is completely okay I'm here for the long haul to be honest. But I realized one thing. I never truly expressed by gratitude for it all! Thank you so much for being so generous and doing your best to find time for these reactions. Thank you so, so much for giving anime, one of my favorite mediums of storytelling a chance. Thank you for opening your heart to it and allowing it to swoop you along on this journey. I watch a lot of movies, TV Shows and more.. and in this day and age where amazing, unique and intelligent shows gets produced only to get cancelled by the netflix overlords before it even gets a chance to stand on it's own two feet I've come to really cherish Anime. Anime isn't scared of being weird or not appealing to everyone. There is something for everyone and oftentimes, these shows that have such heart and such thoughtful stories to tell end up being some of the most beloved by the community. Anime has oftentimes moved my heart more than any other source of media ever has and I'm so thankful for it's existance and that the industry for it continues to thrive.

Love that you're watching Frieren. It's my no.1 favourite anime to date. The main ending theme song is entitled "Anytime, Anywhere" by milet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r105CzDvoo0

In regard to that "this is the show" moment at 19 mins into the first episode, the structure is a bit unique. There are basically 3 story beats that meet their resolutions across 2 episodes. So, in one episode, we start and resolve one thing, then start another, and in the next we resolve that second thing and start/resolve a third. That's kind of the structure of the show, at least from what I can remember.

This is a remarkable show, I'm glad you're getting into it. There is so much intention in the musical, artistic, and cinematic choices they make throughout - it's clear how much the show means to the people who've worked on it and how much careful thought went into its production. Even the major complaints I've heard about it are a deliberate choice in how the story is presented, the juice is worth the squeeze.

I totally agree, it feels like every part of the show is so carefully considered and respected. It is definitely an amazing work of art haha.

Strongly recommend Frieren as a full reaction walk through. It's a very special anime that isn't quite like any of the others I've watched.

I absolutely love you channel and have been considering paying for Patreon for a while, seeing you made a reaction to Frieren made me click instantly, I am in love with this anime, as you said it feels like a breath of fresh air in a world full of fast paced content. Even if you don't post it on Patreon I really hope you continue watching it, it's worth your time.

Dang you're doing this one subbed too? That's unfortunate. Its way easier for a sub watcher to watch a dub reaction than a dub watcher to watch a sub reaction. Almost impossible personally cause the words are so small as is and even smaller in a reaction window on top of just not being used to reading subs anymore. Guess I gotta wait for something I can actually follow along with. Hope you enjoy it though, its a fantastic show.

I personally prefer the original audio. The Japanese VA's are masterful in my opinion and I think are a part of the art.

Definitely one of my top anime to re-watch, people say that it feels really slow but I think the silence and pacing really breathes a lot of life and nostalgia into the show. Hope you do continue watching it to episode 4 or so, there's an amazing soundtrack you should hear!

One thing to note: It's absolutely worth translating the names of every person and place (or use your remaining german skills ;-) ). Every name depicts a concept or a feeling associated. Just the names in the first episode give you a good glance at it: Frieren - Freezing, feeling coldness Himmel - Heaven, Sky Heiter - cheerful, amusing, bright (in terms of weather) Eisen - Iron Fern - faraway Holy City of Strahl (where Heiter lived) - Ray (of light) This will continue throughout the series. I'm not far in, but sometimes feel as if this story was told millenias after it happening and the narrator (though there is non present) can't remember the names anymore, but tells us what he felt with the places and people. Thinking back I also remember emotions easier than specific names. Also, evey major fantasy shows a group of people growing together and saving the world. It's such a unique theme, of a show starting, after the big evil was defeated and showing us what comes after (the part normally open to the viewers/readers own fantasy) I would love to follow you through this Story at the Journey's End ;-)

I'm not personally a huge fan of slice of life anime but I would still give this a go with you if you wanted to, because it is a good foil and something different than the other stuff you watch. My vote is still for JJK though.

This anime is great in a slice of life kind of way. Prefer it over JJK if you are going to add another

What a welcoming surprise! You're spot on, it's all about the journey with this anime and appreciating the time you currently have with your loved ones. It’s a phenomenal show, made even more special by Evan Call’s beautiful soundtrack. I’d love for you to continue the series. it’s incredibly heartwarming and emotionally fulfilling, which balances out Attack on Titan's chaos lol. It also showcases how different and versatile anime can be. I’d also love to hear your thoughts on Frieren’s second opening, “Sunny” by Yorushika, one of my favourite bands/duo in Japan.

frieren is 100% worth it. some say it starts slow, but it gets better and better. the emotional weight of the show is where it really shines, and it's an especially nice anime to watch since it contrasts well with so many other shows.

I’m sure a lot of people might disagree with me on the comments, but people who don’t watch anime extensively have enjoyed this show in its English dub. A bit easier to get into if you’re okay with the dub. There’s always purists, but I think the dub, especially for Frierens voice, which is a lot more mature in the dub, is well worth it.

Oh cool, unexpected but a wonderful show! Great music, not a lot of vocals in it but it's a great backghround track. All names i know of are in German! they are pretty "spoilery" but its fun

One of the rare ones where both the dub and sub are really good.

Frieren is also like attack on titan where it’s a great story, with really good fights and graphics mixed in. I can’t help but smile during the show every week when it comes out. It just draws you in and makes you happy seeing Frieren learning about humans and feelings.

A
Andrew · January 25, 2026

I’ve always thought the Frieren was more like a late teen or some in their early 20s in her elf years. She is also the only elf in the party. You can tell by the ears. The one with the long beard is a dwarf like in lord of the rings. The other two guys are humans.
