Oh I’d love to see your reaction to Encanto!
The first time I heard this song, I wasn't sure about it, but the more I listened to it, it grew on me. The difference in voice tone and style between Rubin-Vega and Beatriz is so interesting. Somehow, it actually works. Rubin-Vega's voice has become richer and better the older she has gotten, imo. And Beatriz is so light and poppy, with the higher pitch. Pulled in the rock and pop elements. Also, yes, please react to Encanto! I would absolutely be here for it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that was 'meh' at first. It's a nice little song, but it isn't like the gut-punchers that we're accustomed to. 😭
This is an amazing analysis, and yes, when you asked for the differences in tone, I would have said that Vaggie (Stephanie) was lighter and brighter than Carmilla (Daphne).
I kind of hate the way modern pop singers don't enunciate properly... Maybe that's why I love musical theatre so much. I think the lyrics are so important and I can't stand it when singers sacrifice that for whatever reason. Music is storytelling. If you're not going to enunciate the lyrics properly to tell that story you may as well not have any. ...yeah, I have some strong opinions about this XD Great analysis! This isn't one of the songs I've listened to the most closely, even though I love all these singers' performances. I really hope Zestial gets more songs going forward, I love his voice so much. Hope Asmodeus gets more songs in season 3 of Helluva Boss as well as that's also James Monroe Iglehart, but Zestial's such an under-utilised character so far, I think. It's funny about Stephanie Beatriz and her singing voice here being so different from her speaking voice for Vaggie. That voice, which is a lot like the one she uses for Rosa in Brooklyn 99, is actually really different from her regular speaking voice which is much higher and, I guess, girlier. It's a lot harder to pitch your voice down like that while singing than it is while speaking, though. She does kind of sing in Vaggie's speaking voice in Happy Day in Hell, but that's only a few short lines, whereas this is a proper solo that demands a lot more technique. I think it would be super fun if you did a reaction to Encanto, btw. It IS a musical with a lot of wonderful songs and vocal performances, and I think you'd really like it. :)
