Hazbin Hotel Season 1 Episode 3
So many new characters! AHH! Also, such new interesting voices in this one, I was so distracted by that and feel like I missed some things!

I know this is really late, but I've been going through and watching your old Hazbin reactions and I'm SO happy you loved this song. Its not one that gets brought up a lot, but its one of my favorites. They both have such strong contrasting voices and styles. <3
Hi Tim! I just joined your patreon (came over from Youtube) because I wanted to watch your Hazbin episode reactions! I have to agree with the other comment you highlighted, you're really fun to watch because of how open to enjoying yourself you seem to be. You're not holding yourself in reserve/keeping an emotional distance because it's Embarrassing to Sincerely Enjoy Things. Hurray for the mortifying ordeal of being known! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and give a little engagement feedback.
I love the ending. I think its supposed to make you feel like hes going to pop up. Good subversion.
I also wanted to add that Daphne Ruben-Vega and Stephanie Beatriz played a lesbian couple in the In the Heights movie, so it's not the first time they've sung together!
Husk, is voiced by Keith David
Who was also in the show Gargoyles and the movie Princess and the Frog
The actress who voices Vaggie, Stephanie Beatriz, was also the voice of Mirabel in Encanto and the difference in her singing between that and here you can really tell they push her into a higher tone than compared to Encanto. Might be a good exercise to listen to a couple of her songs from the movie vs her songs in Hazbin and how she’s using her voice differently
I'm not fully sure how everyone feels but I don't think too many would mind if you need to do a quick rewatch of a song that plays once more incase there's like one for the vocals and another for the context of the rewatch?
I am so ok with that
Wait... in the bondage club... the dog and cat that crowded Charlie... were they the featured couple from "Happy day in Hell" in the 1st episode?!
Yes, they were.
Like others have said, don't worry about missing stuff. The series is so fast paced, my millennial brain struggled really bad at first.😄 But I got into it really hard, too. I binged the whole season straight away when it was realeased and then watched a few episodes every day for weeks or maybe even months. (It was a crazy spring, I was in a new town doing my masters thesis so I was alone a lot.) I think many of us fans have spent a lot of time with the series which is why many of us are very knowledgeable. And sometimes very opinionated (even to a toxic level) but haven't noticed that here in your patreon. Everyone seems nice and chill here and I love it. 😊
For what you missed during the Carmine song with her and Vaggie. Carmine fully admitted to being the one that killed the angel, which before now has seemed impossible to do. She did it to defend her two children during the extermination, but wants to keep it a secret because if word got out the angels are killable (and it has) total war would come and heaven could retaliate and kill many, essentially putting her daughters at more risk that she can't defend them from. Also I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but a lot of the overlords have their own themes. Alastor is obviously the Radio Demon, Vox is all about Television, Velvette (the one that brought the head to the meeting) seems to be a fashion/social media theme, and Valentino is, without using too much graphic language, a pimp demon. Carmine, the one that killed the angel, seems to be themed around weapons? She's known for selling weapons to the other sinners and her company was the one that tried to drop them off to Pentious earlier in the episode. There's also Rosie (the one who had the creepy smile towards Frank the Egg Boi). She'll become more important later and I think it will be obvious what her theme is. And then Zestial is sort of still a big mystery. We just know he's old and very powerful.
Carmilla Carmine is voiced by Daphne Rubin-Vega who, among other claims to fame, originated Mimi Marquez in Rent back in 1996. Zestial, the tall Overlord with the Elizabethan speech pattern (it's inconsistent and I hate it but that's a me-thing), is voiced by James Monroe Iglehart who is Asmodeus and Vortex on Helluva Boss. He also won a Tony for playing the Genie in the original Broadway production of Aladdin, and he's played Lafayette and Jefferson in Hamilton, among many, many other credits. (He also writes Spider-Man comics sometimes, he's a versatile guy.) It is really impressive how Alex Brightman is capable of doing such different voices for Adam, Sir Pentious and Fizzarolli, but what I find even more impressive somehow is that Blake Roman, who voices Angel Dust, also voices the Egg Bois. I know I gushed about this on the Discord server the other day, but those two voices really sound absolutely nothing alike and it impresses the hell out of me. You also commented on Husk's voice, which is of course done by the incredible, talented and prolific Keith David. I mostly know him from his voice acting, especially in video games, but he's had a long acting career in both film, TV, and on stage. I like this episode and I enjoy the songs in it, but it really bothers me the way Vaggie in particular kink shames Angel Dust when he takes them to the BDSM club. It's not like he's wrong, BDSM is literally all about trust and it doesn't even have to be sexual. Finally, a fun lore fact: Sinners bleed red, angels bleed gold, and Hellborn demons bleed black. I just think that's a neat little detail.
The show is so fast paced it is very hard to pick things up with one watch (I usually watch 3 times). I’d imagine it’s even harder when your mind is so focused on voices because it’s your specialty, so please don’t feel bad about not picking things up. Some information is from interviews, cons and just Viv posting as well. It’s a very wide fandom. I do love watching your reactions to the episodes and songs. 10/10! They have pretty much confirmed crossovers coming in the future between the two shows; particularly the sins. I’m not sure if anyone has told you or if any fans have missed it but the Egg Boi Frank and Sir Pentious has released some covers of Christmas songs as a thank you for getting Hazbin into the billboard top 10. Hope you all have a good holiday season and if it’s hard for you I hope it’s at least peaceful! : )
Carmilla's shoe sound is one of those weird things that tickles my brain in a good way. Later in the show there is a song where they are part of the sounds in the song, however it can only be heard in the show, but not on the soundtrack!
So, some interesting stuff for you. This episode introduces Carmilla Carmine who was mentioned in Hazbin. The gun that Striker bought to shoot Stolas was a Carmine weapon. This also introduces multiple other overlords, the only relevant overlords in Season 1 are the Vees (Vox, Valentino, and Velvet), Alastor, Carmilla, Zestial, and Rosie. The other overlords introduced though are Zeezi (the big dino gal) & Maestro (the flaming skull guy) in the meeting, and Prick and Hatchet in the scene with Vaggie's bootcamp. (They were the cactus guy and the white demony looking dude fighting in the background) All of them are the overlords of Pentagram City. We also got to see Carmilla's daughters as they are who she's fighting for. This is very much setting up for the future, but some things are just easter eggs, and some things are wishful thinking. As at this point they hadn't gotten confirmation of further seasons of Hazbin, and Helluva was forced to keep separate. NOW Hazbin is confirmed through season 4, and Helluva through it's conclusion with it's Season 4. (Viv hopes that Hazbin will get a 5th season to finish it's story) Starting in S3 of BOTH shows we'll start to see more crossovers. And some Helluva cast has been confirmed in studio for Hazbin. (Overlooking the three obvious overlaps of Alex (Fizz, Adam, Pentious), Brandon (Blitz & Katie Killjoy) and James (Zestial, Ozzie, and Vortex)) For episode 4, things that are relevant to remember or watch for, so you won't be as lost: Angel works for Valentino. Husk (and Nifty) works for Alastor. Both of these are previously established facts. Other neat bits to know, Val's director (Travis) appeared in Helluva early in season 1 as a background character. And this episode will also have the second background cameo of a modified Robo-Fizzaroli that Val owns (It first appeared in Ep 3)
The person who plays angel dust plays the egg boys
•Zestial is such a powerful overlord that sinners are compelled to self-harm at the mere sight of him. (sinners can regenerate from anything other than angelic weaponry so it's ok) •The meeting that he and Alastor attended was an "Overlord meeting" which echoes a stockholders meeting in that these new characters at the table would be the stockholders and the souls that they own would be the "stock". Essentially: Extermination is bad for business 📉 •The "Vs" are a trio of newer overlords and having Velvette, "the social media demon" (the youngest/last to die) representing them at the table was....a decision 😖 •Carmilla Carmine (the Spanish ballerina with killer steel toes) is very much a mama bear, willing to kill in a moment but avoids outright war to protect her daughters
Now I imagine Valentino or Vox being in this meeting representing their case and I don't know which one would be the most entertaining to watch. xD
Zestial is the oldest overlord and I think he's from like the medieval period. He's very very old compared to most of the other characters we see. The characters voice and deaign tend to represent the time period they lived in.
Tim don't feel bad for not catching things on first watch through, I have to watch at least twice to catch things I missed. This show moves fast.
By the time I learned about the show, the first three episodes had already been released, and I watched all three four times in one night. I was utterly besotted. After that, I turned the TV off; nothing else could compare.
Zestial is voiced by James Monroe Iglehart, he also voices Ozzie and Vortex in Hellava. Blake Roman voices the egg boys which a lot of people don't catch.
