Further heartbreak- "I Will Be Okay" harkens back to the song Stolas sang to baby Octavia in the LooLoo Land episode (S1E2), "You Will Be Okay" Very much hoping we will one day get a wholesome daddy/daughter reprise titled "We Will Be Okay"

Funny story: no clue if anyone’s said this yet, but I love that satan claims that he’s been ruling hell since before lucfer fell… but vivsie confirmed it was bs. because hell was created WHEN lucifer fell, so that’s why bee and ozzie looked back at lucifer’s chair and back at each other. basically, satan said he’s been the og ruler, presumably because he’s a bit insecure about getting the job of ruler of hell… because lucifer wants to chill with his daughter. not because he earned it.

Mastermind is such a great song, I'm excited you're planning on doing a deep dive into it, really looking forward to that! I do love this episode, while it's not my absolute favourite it's definitely in my top 5 and it's for sure the most well crafted from a narrative point of view. The tone is more consistent than most of the other episodes, which suffer from a fair bit of tonal whiplash, and there's no B-plot to distract from the main focus. And then there's the song, of course. Mastermind was the first song from Helluva Boss that my pupil showed me, which of course meant I'd gotten a little spoiled by the time I got to this episode, but I don't mind.

Oh, I've been waiting for your reaction to this song. This is truly a masterpiece of a song. Vivienne Medrano said that this one is her favorites in the show. I vaguely remember that either her or one of the crew said that they had Patrick Page for Satan in mind from the beginning, this is why that one note is so low: they knew he could do it.

IT IS TIME!! *I* SHALL BE THE ONE TO DROP ALL THE EASTER EGGS!!!! • Each Sin shares characteristics with the residents of their Ring. And in Vivienne's unique vision, each Sin represents a Role in the circus 🎪 •Satan (voiced by Patrick Page, who you've heard before as Hades in your reaction to the Hadestown chant) rules over the ring of Wrath, where most of the imps reside and have a western style culture, so his accent and attire (open leather vest & boots/his horns even resemble a cowboy hat). His little life coach/mental health guru wears a set of "mood robes" (when Satan is mad the robes are white [maybe to be seen easier?] and when Satan is calm they are black) Satan's Circus role would be that of "The Strong Man" ☆When Satan sings 🎶I've ruled the endless dark, long before the Golden Angel's fall🎶 both Ozzie and Bee roll their eyes and look up to Lucifer's throne before sharing a look themselves. Fans think this means that while Lucifer has been away, Satan has been power grabbing and he's powerful enough that no one is calling him out on it... • Asmodeus (Ozzie) rules not only the Lust ring with the incubi/succubi but also oversees the Goetia, nearly all of whom are depicted as birds tying into his own rooster form. Ozzie's circus role is the fire eater (flame mane) •Beelzebub (Queen Bee) voiced by Kesha, Ruler of Gluttony has dominion over the Hellhounds and has the Role of Animal Tamer •Belphagor (The candle-headed sheep with eyes going down her neck that was asleep next to Bee who doesn't actually speak) is the Ruler of Sloth. In the show, Sloth is depicted as the ring with the pink sky where the hospitals are located. The creatures of her realm have candles on their heads and goat features. It's been speculated that her Role is the fortune teller (I don't remember why 🙃) • Leviathan (the 2 headed fish female below Ozzie) rules over Envy. We haven't seen her realm since it's just an ocean (think creepy deep sea). We have seen residents of her realm before though: in the mid-season finale, the glam sisters that competed against Fizzaroli resemble Lev's pretty side while the creepy hotel manager from Ghostfuckers takes after the less attractive side. Her Role has been noted as the "freak/side show" •Mammon's ring of Greed is the one where we see the shark mobster demons, which confuses me a little bit because he's basically a big nasty centipede. His Role is the Jester (had passed the buck down to Fizzaroli before he was given 🎶 2 minutes notice 🎵🤣) • Not shown here due to the two shows being on different platforms at the time is Lucifer The Ringmaster! and Ruler of ALL of Hell but resides on Pride where the sinners are trapped(sinners can't go up and down the rings like hellborns can) His throne has an apple 🍎 carved into it. A BRB note and a rubber duck covered in cobwebs (he's kind of a recluse as an explanation of not being able to appear in both shows at the time) are little Easter eggs for watchers of Hazbin. •Vassago (the Spanish speaking Parrot that spoke up during the trial) is said to be another demon that rules astronomy in the bible, so that's why he walks on a star. •Stolas's eyes (main set) always glowed with power so his pupils only showed during moments of strong emotions. When Satan stripped Stolas of his powers for the duration of 100 years, his pupils became ever-present. As for all of the imps hating on Stolas at the end, Stolas's "confession" not only degraded Blitz as an imp, but also implicated that he'd used Blitz as a patsy. With Stolas stripped of rank and power, imp-kind now not only feel safe, but vindicated in harassing Stolas. Only the members of I.M.P. know the truth. •The crest of each Sin is represented on the door with Lucifer's being on the very top in the window part. The crests are also on the front of each of their chairs and their sigils depicted on the backs. ...my thumbs hurt...

What an amazing summary of information 👏 Bravo! I'd just add that Vassago is, according to the Book of King Solomon, one of the good Goetia demons who favors those who seek truth. This is why he was the one demanding on summoning Stolas.

Mastermind is a pretty well-balanced episode. Serious plot and character developments, some gorgeous visuals (that spin around Stolas always gets me), the reveal of Satan, and of course the song. I've listened to it a bunch of times and still sometimes get goosebumps during the duet. It's sappy as hell but the "You're my light / You're my heart" bit always gets me. FINALLY these bastards are on the same wavelength. It only look like ~20 episodes!

I was waiting for you to react to this episode from the start, Mastermind is not only my favourite episode of the show but the best song for me. And the end is so so sweet, it's good to see Blitz finally happy (kind of). And we have all the Sins together, minus Lucifer (sin of Pride, Satan is the sin of Wrath that's why he have a little demon who help him to manage it 🤣) because he is an Hazbin character and they couldn't use him and he is kinda a recluse in canon. But we can see his throne and a note who says BRB with one of his rubber duck. A nice easter egg for all the Hazbin fan.

Loona saying "I love you, dad" to Blitz near the end is such a sweet moment and makes me tear up, but Stolas's face after she says it, knowing he lost his own daughter, crushes me and makes me tear up on the opposite side of the spectrum 😭😭😭 my heart aches for this fictional owl demon

I don't know about anyone else, but I talk like a sailor only around certain people. I'm sure if we're watching this show, salty language is par for the course. :D

I'm so happy to watch this episode with you! :D Also, when did we decide not to watch the shorts? Please please please, at least watch the first one before the next episode! It's a minor thing but it's about character dimensions which come to play in the next episode a little bit.

Hooray, I've been waiting since you started the Helluva reactions for you to get to Mastermind, can't wait for the musical breakdown! Patrick Page plays Satan, most well known for playing Hades in Hadestown. Satan is the Sin of Wrath by the way, who is a different character than Lucifer, the Sin of Pride (who is in Hazbin Hotel). Suggestion before the next episode- I'd take a quick refresher visit on 'You Will Be Okay' all the way back from S1E2. The next one is also really, really good both plot wise and music wise, I hate that we're getting to the end but I'm excited for your reaction to it! By the way, there is ONE more episode of Helluva to react to after Sinsmas- they recently released a redone pilot episode for the series called Mission Zero for the show's debut on Prime. It can be found on Youtube! I'd also love to see your reaction to the shorts and some of the extras like the studio recording of When I See Him- a livestream sounds like it could be fun for that :)

I agree! Refresh the 'You Will Be Okay' song. Watch the shorts and the Mission Zero (it replaces the original pilot which is not fully canon anymore)!
