Its nice to finally see Wicked on the big screen. I got interested when Stell of SB19 sang Wicked’s Defying Gravity at a David Foster and Friends concert.
Just because I know way too much about animals, even though it's a pretty microscopic point in the movie... goats (and other cloven-hooved animals such as cows and deer) do not actually have upper front teeth (incisors), but instead have a "dental pad" that is made of tough, fleshy tissue which basically acts as a cutting board for their lower teeth to grind food against. Again, really random point to comment on, but just for information sake XD
The font that they use for the opening is the same one from Wizard of Oz
Part 2 please!?
I remember watching this on the plane and I didn’t particularly enjoy it. The music is amazing obviously but I felt the pacing didn’t fit well in film format. Watching it again here it’s not as bad as I remember it being. I think I just had too many people around me hyping it up as the greatest movie ever
Can't relate lmao I watched it for the first time on the plane as well and ended up bawling my eyes ooooout
Watching the film and listening to the songs in the film vs soundtrack does show there is a clear difference in the mastering. Its not huge but the music sounds much better in the film to me as the post processing is way harder to notice. Some of that might be because of the background sounds of the cast and set being left in within the film, or the soundtrack adds more processing to clear out sound if its not a new recording. . Still, I think the soundtrack does not showcase the singing as well as the film does. Its a good showcase of how important mastering/mixing is.
I love this musical and the movie! I thought it was so cool how they built all the sets, sang live and all their work showed in how amazing the movie looked and sounded. I can’t wait for part 2! I enjoyed this rewatch with you in prep for part 2!
Ayyye maplewood mentioned!! I grew up there!
Ahhh! Wow. Did you go to Columbia!?
It's so funny that you dropped this today, my partner and I literally rewatched this movie just last night! First time since we saw it in the cinema when it opened. Guess I'm watching again now, cause I'm dying to hear your thoughts!
Okay, gonna be posting more comments while I'm watching, as I watched the behind the scenes last night. The Munchkinland set was, I seem to recall, outdoors, yes. They planted millions of tulips for it. Oh, and I'm pretty sure they CGId the baby. They gave Cynthia Erivo the option of being painted green or having the green added in post and she chose paint.
