Curious if you respond the same way when Sabrina, Billie or Chapell Roan use explicit and sexualixed lyrics? People want Taylor to be a 16 year old forever. They put her in a box and have a hard time with her evolving. It has happened every album since Reputation, which was 6 albums ago. Once you listen to this album 4-5 times it sounds as natural as Chapell Roan.

Sounds like you’d prefer the clean version of this album. She does a great job switching up the explicit words. The explicit versions are a little jarring/surprising at first but after you get used to it, it’s adds a lot of emotion into the sentiment that she’s signing about. Definitely a lot of thought put into the explicit lyrics. Like you said they are meant to create conversation around the topic. It makes you stop and say, “why in the world is she using those words,” and then forces you to break down the song to fully understand the purpose… except for wood, that one is pretty straight forward. 😆 Your immediate reaction to the first verse in Eldest Daughter was perfect. It’s supposed to sound forced and unnatural. Immediately after that verse she flips to the Taylor we know and says, “I’ve been dying from trying to seem cool,” and then, “but I’m not a bad B, and this isn’t savage.” She’s saying that she’s not the person that can say those things naturally. She goes back into her voice and then, once again, switches back when she says, “so we all dressed up like wolves and we looked fire.” Dressing up as wolves is pretending to be “cool” while actually being soft inside. once again she uses the modern language that doesn’t suit her by saying “fire” to describe looking cool, because she is dressed as a wolf and pretending. On first listen to this song I thought it was terrible. On second listen I had tears streaming down my face because as an eldest daughter, who had to grow up too fast, I very much relate to this song. Travis is the “youngest child,” that she is signing to, saying that she will never leave him, let him down, break that vow and now he’s home (with her). It’s a beautiful song once you understand it.

In eldest daughter I think the forced, younger sounding verbiage was intentional. I take it as saying in this modern internet world where everyone is outwardly trying to be a “bad bitch” and “savage” and where apathy has become the norm she isn’t actually those things, she doesn’t fit into that, but then goes onto list the qualities that are softer, more vulnerable and less celebrated that she is able to offer.

As a Swiftie, even I have to admit this isn’t my favourite album but I still enjoy it. If I were to recommend something else here I would definitely suggest The Black Dog from her previous album, just from an interesting music production perspective or I would recommend watching folklore the Long Pond Studio sessions on Disney +

Basically Father Figure is about her first manager Scott Borchetta who was like a Father Figure in the beginning of her career but then betrayed her by selling her master recordings to Scooter Braun who had been nasty to her for years but she eventually got the last laugh because she now completely owns all her own music

I don’t get why people are upset about her using words like “bitch” or “dick” or "fuck". Everyone acts morally superior online, but nobody’s perfect — and let’s be honest, most of us listen to music with far harsher lyrics all the time.

She’s probably laughing all the way to the bank, the hate’s just free promo at this point.

I’d like to hear what you think about the acoustic versions of some of these songs she just released.
