seconding what dante said, famous last words in the narrative of the album "the black parade" is supposed to be about the patient finally accepting everything that happened in his life and realizing that he can't escape his fate (death), but it also leaves the interpretation of whether he actually dies up to the listener. all of the songs in the album do that same kind of switching up with the keys, going from major to minor and back again, all in accordance to the story, people say that this album is kind of their magnum opus for a reason LOL my favorites from the black parade are mama, sleep, and the sharpest lives, but i think you'd really like mama, it's probably one of if not The craziest song they have in their catalogue lol. besides that, planetary (go!) and destroya off of danger days are also super good, esp with the production.

this mcr react was totally worth subscribing for. the joy and attention you give to the things you react to is validating, refreshing and enlightening

My Chem is my Roman Empire, Gerard has a super interesting vocal style and Ray Toro is a guitar god. would love to see you react to more from them because their range is pretty huge, each album is quite different and they are more or less all concept albums. The Black Parade being almost a rock opera following a terminal Cancer patient coming to grips with the life he lived and his inevitable death. their first album Bullets features a couple called the demolition lovers, super loose concept only featured in a few songs that is then extended on in 3 Cheers which follows the male lover in his journey to reap the souls of a 1000 evil men to bring back his wife who died in a shootout at the end of Bullets. Danger days is a Mad Max style near future dystopian scifi following the rebel group the fabulous kill joys, this album is their most high energy by a long way. Their B sides and conventional weapons compilation are also full of gems like my favourite song Kill all you friends. Foundations of Decay is there most recent release, it is very different from everything that came before and i love it so much i got a tattoo themed after it. Edit to answer a question: Frank - rhythm guitar and Ray - lead guitar both harmonise live. Ray does clean vocals and Frank does anything grittier, punkier and screams

The Black Parade album is lyrically beautiful, it's still in my regular rotation years later <3

yay!! i’m so glad you liked it!!! i just saw them live on saturday and cried during this song lol. i loved that you pointed out his R’s bc i always fixate on those some fun facts about the song/video: -they wrote TBP album in a haunted mansion and mikey, the bassist, (gerard’s brother- the lead singer) had such an awful time he couldn’t stand it and left the mansion/group for a small period. the band got in a huge slump and gerard started writing this because of mikey leaving. but he also stated this was about a breakup too -several of the members got injured during the music video. frank (guitar, left side of video) tackled gerard which caused gerard to tear muscles in his leg and foot. ray (guitar, right side) fractured his fingers. and bob (drummer) suffered second and third degree burns on the back of his legs which later resulted in gangrene

like you said this one was one of their more uplifting ones! i’d recommend helena and the ghost of you, both super amazing and iconic! i also love how he pronounces stuff in “i don’t love you” that i think you’d enjoy as well lol (also super beautiful song & vid)

I have seen a lot of their behind the scenes and outtakes for their music videos and from what I can tell Gerard does actually sing the songs live in 90% of the takes.

extending on the Frank jumped on Gerard during the filming of this one and injured Gee's leg. used a cane for a while after that

heavily recommend helena i think you’d find that one really interesting to pick apart!! as well as dead! and mama, and of course the classic welcome to the black parade, although as you can tell already, most things sung in gerard way’s voice will have that interesting sound to them!! i hope if you do check out more you enjoy them just as much, this was a great song to start off with

They're great live too, I've seen them in concert and was not disappointed! This album is great, I second Savallion's recommendations for songs from it. I actually am working on getting a full back tattoo currently that will include some lyrics from one of their songs (The Light Behind Your Eyes, which is off of one of the EPs that makes up Conventional Weapons), so it's cool to see you reacting to them now!

First time I ever heard of this group. Frankly, it's going to take some processing. I loved his voice, and the music, but I did find both slightly unsettling.

As a fan of MCR, that’s honestly a completely understandable reaction.

Ahhh MCR. The Black Parade album was essentially the soundtrack to my high school years. One of the very few bands I've actually seen live (I'm not really a fan of live shows - too crowded for me). I like your interpretation of the lyrics as being about a relationship but the album as a whole is publicly known to be about death - "Dead!" is the first track (Edit: sorry *second track. The first one is like a short little intro I would always skip it), "The Black Parade" is meant as a metaphor for dying. Their music is usually pretty dark/emo, so I think Famous Last Words is meant to be about someone who wants to die, trying to give them hope to keep going in a very angsty way. Very bittersweet memories of MCR, I was a SAD girl and this album was sad and edgy to match. If you're looking for more from this album, "Cancer", "Disenchanted", "Sleep", and "I Don't Love You" are very vocal heavy and beautiful IMO. "Mama" for something a little weird and fun. Gerard Way has such an interesting way of using his voice. He makes a lot of weird sounds that I found fascinating to sing along to as a teen. I imagined that I would be in a famous rock band :) that didn't quite work out but we did play "Give 'Em Hell, Kid" (an older MCR song) at a talent show. We lost to someone who played "Wonderwall" of all things. Gerard Way also did vocals for a Deadmau5 song, "Professional Griefers" which is extremely catchy.
