(Update Log) Body Diversity Mod - v 1.1
I decided to implement the features some commenters over at LoversLab were asking about. I want to thank everybody who left questions, suggestions and kind words, I really appreciate the feedback ❤︎
Added Features:
Feet Randomization
Automatic Randomizing
Better Body Part Reviewer
Detailed Sex Role Attribution
Body Parts Based On Gender Options
Random Chance Of Futas
Optional Interaction override
I'll go into the details of each feature below ↓
Feet Randomization
To be honest, I didn't even notice feet randomization was missing from BDM, someone had to point it out (thanks cha_cha_lola). Toes are not really my cup of tea. But after playing with randomized feet, I think it's a cool feature whether you have a foot fetish or not.
If you don't have any custom feet installed, keep the feet named "native" as the only option for both males and females when making the config in the Reviewer.
Automatic Randomizing
Yep, you don't need to type the command anymore. But the mod doesn't actually check for new sims all the time. I still think something constantly checking for new sims is a bit overkill, so instead, the randomization happens:
on zone loading (when your sims travel somewhere);
every sim day at midnight.
I personally feel like that is often enough. The original randomization commands are still fully functional, so if you think a sim might not be randomized yet or the randomization is not keeping up with the new sims, you can use the manual commands.
When you start a new save, all sims should already have random body parts.
Someone asked if I could make a version that doesn't randomize played sims. I find that's redundant. If you want to hand pick body parts for certain sims, just use the normal WW part selector after the sim has been randomized. The mod marks every sim that has been randomized with a hidden trait, so that it never touches that sim again, so if you edit the parts after the randomization, the mod will only randomize that sim if you force it. If there was a version that doesn't randomize played sims, you'd just hand pick the parts for them, right? You'd do essentially the same thing as if they had been randomized first.
Better Body Part Reviewer
Total revamp of the Soft Match and Sizes tabs. Now you can easily edit penis sizes and soft versions of penises! Also added the option to search for soft penises (no more endless scrolling to find the right one!).
There was also a change to the auto soft matching system. You know when a penis has like 5 sizes of hard penises but just 3 variations of soft penises? Now the Reviewer will auto assign the closest soft version for that part. No soft version for the XLarge penis? It uses the one for the Large. It still does not auto assign penises like the ones from MiniGiles, that have hard and soft versions of wildly different names. Remember that the same soft penis can be used for many different hard penises.
Detailed Sex Role Attribution
Now you can set up the distribution of Top/Bottom/Versatile sims based on their sexual orientation! These traits can only be applied to male sims (that's a limitation from the Males Interactions mod). When setting the default weight distribution for homosexual and bisexual sims, I based myself on the real likelihoods (different studies done in different places might have different outcomes, so I just picked one that seemed to have the most data).
A small caveat you need to keep your eyes on is that now the mod randomizes sims when the game loads, so if you change sexual orientation distribution settings after the game has loaded, you'll have to force randomize all the sims again (or just wait for new sims to be added to the world).
Body Parts Based On Gender Options
Now if a male sim can become pregnant and pee sitting down, they will be given a vagina. And if a female sim can get sims pregnant and pee standing, they will have a penis. That's it.
I intended to give sims who can become pregnant and pee standing, or get sims pregnant and pee sitting, a mesh that has both a penis and a vagina. But no matter what I tried, those trait combinations just made the parts glitch and appear as clothes. I still haven't figured out how to fix that, so for now the mod just skips those sims completely.
Random Chance Of Futas
Now you can add a chance for sims to have body parts that don't match their sex!
I thought about using the term "trans" instead of "Futa" but I feel like that would be a bit more delicate. The "sex" you assign to a sim is actually more like their gender identity, it's how other sims will read that sim when choosing their romantic attraction. I think what people often do when making trans sims is set the sex as the "biological" sex that sim was "born" with and then change the body frame. For example, you want to make a trans fem who had no bottom surgery, so you create a male and set it to have the feminine body frame and use she/her pronouns. But then if she meets a heterosexual male, he won't be attracted to her because she was set as a male and so the game reads her as such. A more accurate thing to do is to make your trans fem sim a female and set her to be able to get other sims pregnant and pee standing. For game mechanics, changing pronouns and body frame does absolutely nothing: they try to be trans inclusive but essentially treat trans and non-binary sims by their "biological" sex (I say "biological" because this is a simulation game, there is no biology here). When you look at it this way, the townie trans sims AE made are kind of like the way those "if you were born with a penis you're a man and if you were born with a vagina you're a woman" people see the trans community... Yikes!
I understand not tying pronouns to gender identity, since they are customizable and the game has a binary attraction system, it would be hard to track all possible inputs. In my opinion, EA is not totally wrong for that decision. I don't think they want to recreate a fully inclusive sexual attraction system, essentially having to simulate one of the most complex and volatile aspects of the human mind, in a game held together by python and XML that needs to be able to run on a laptop that sounds like a jet engine. This long ass text was to say that I chose "Futa" because it usualy refers only to the physical and sexual parts, there is not a lot of deep gender identity meaning behind it (I think).
You don't need futa specific parts for most of this feature. WW has default male vaginas and female penises, so the mod can always fall back to those. What it doesn't have is a version with both parts. It's not as simple as adding both a penis and a vagina, it needs an entirelly different mesh. So far the only person I've seen making parts like that is Noir.
Optional Interaction override
Now that what's in a sim's pants might not be what you'd expect, I added a new interaction to ask exactly that.
It overrides the Risque Question interaction, so I decided to make it optional. I looked it up and it seems that a lot of people (me included) feel the Risque Question is just annoying. It's almost never successful and it has no meaning. Ask what risque question? What is the answer to that question? Well, now we have both!
The chances of the interaction being successful are based on romantic relationship, and the body part that the sim has matters (being flirty also impacts it). If a male sim has a penis or a female sim has a vagina, the likelihood of success will be higher. If it's a male sim with a vagina or a female sim with a penis, the likelihood will be lower. I made it that way because I feel like this question is more invasive to a non-cis person (since hateful people often use this kind of question to try to out, discriminate or offend queer people), so it should require you to be more intimate to ask it and get a honest response. I'm not trans myself and I did not add this feature to try to be offensive, so I'd be really happy if you could give me some feedback if you think this mechanic is problematic ❤︎
