Public opinion on a pre setup version of BDM
Something people always mention about BDM is that it's a pain to set up. But there are also a lot of people who absolutely adore the fact that it's so customizable.
So, I was thinking about making a version that comes with a config file ready to use. There would be several settings profiles to choose from, depending on the parts you want your randomized Sims to have. You'd just need to download the parts from the original creators, too.
It would cost 5 dollars to get access to all pre-made settings. You would only have to pay once, so if I add new profiles later, you could still access them.
I'm really not sure about pricing. I'm not from the USA so I don't really have a feel for how much a dollar is worth. Currency exchanges and inflation are complicated things. So I wanted to hear the opinion from natives to help me gauge the pricing. The lowest price Patreon allows me to set is 3 dollars. If the lowest is still too pricy I could add some special features only the paid version has. If you have any Ideas for how I could price this better, please leave a comment.
The mods I post are litterally things that I feel are missing in the game, mods I genuinely use. But for this, I'd be going out of my way to create all the custom profiles and curate the lists. Since this is a hobbie for me, I'll only do that if I'm getting paid.

If I may make a suggestion, as you saw from the previous commenter, the idea of "paid mods" is a bit unpopular right now (partially the result of EA's botched release of the marketplace). However, it's still very common and accepted to release things like configuration files and beta releases as patreon subscriber bonuses. I know it sounds ridiculous to say that "subscriptions are more accepted than single payments even though they cost more in the end," but it is very true, especially of a USAmerican audience. It may be worth approaching this from a "thank you for supporting my ongoing development costs" angle rather than a "this is a one time payment for work already completed" angle. In any case, I found the setup process to be very straightforward, but I would certainly still buy a pre-set profile if one were made available so I can try out another build for fun. However, I would prefer the $3US price point if only because it's very much a "nice to have" not a "need to have" and $5 is a little expensive for that, in my opinion.
I would never pay for any mod. Mods have always been known to be free for everyone, particularly to combat the selfishness of big gaming corporations, especially since mods are often even better than DLC
I agree partially. Mods have in fact always been a symbol of a community coming together to help each other out of the goodness of their hearts, a way to resist against corporate selfishness together. That's beautiful. But I also think modders have to make a living too, and kindness doesn't pay the bills. So if they want to sell their work, that's their choice. In this situation I would not be putting a part of the mod behind a paywall, I'd be giving the convienience of not having to set it up. Would that count as making people pay for the mod?
