It could be that, however, I did just check and was reminded that about 10-15% of CJD cases are of genetic origin. Nova does err a little bit in commenting on it--only one single person in history was known to survive CJD longer than a few years. That was a Northern Irish man who developed vCJD and was given an experimental treatment. He lived about ten years after his treatment. Most people get a year or two, max.
