Magical while at the same time relentlessly irritating pretty well sums it up, much as I’m enjoying it a 7 feels very appropriate, good review steph
What do you mean, no one actively likes the durability system? That's just ridiculous, I love durability in all my games and features! I love it so much, in fact, I installed a "keyboard durability" mod to the keyboard I am using to write this comment, and it's gre
I appreciate this review a lot. I'm not a fan of the Zelda series in general. I do remember something you've said in a few reviews before. "It's not about difficulty it's about respecting the players time" and I can't agree enough. I think open world as a genre has so much potential but it is often filled with collection quests and menial busywork. Give me a smaller area and make the exploration rewarding! I don't think it's too much to ask!
We all knew it was going to be a 7/10 affair. Frankly, it could have been utterly perfect as a game and it'd *still* be deserving of a 7/10 just because of the awfulness of some of the fanbase, haha.
Very generous ;-)
IN DEPTH. I'll brew a pot, sit down n' get comfy and read the whole lot later.
Your BotW review was exactly how I felt about the first game, and based on this I probably won't buy ToTK. I'll wait for the sails (heh).
Pretty much my experience, like steph said, it’s great for all the reasons botw was, and irritating for all the same reasons it was too. For better or worse it’s just more botw with a more densely packed world and a cleverer power set, reminds me a lot of new Vegas vs fallout 3 really
I just noticed right now the acronym for Tears of the Kingdom looks like a crying face! ToTk. Didn't have anyone else to share this with than you lot ^.~
The fucking rain, great game but far from perfect Stef. You hit the nail in the head again.
Because the resounding feedback from my friends was, exactly however they felt about Breath of the Wild, I expect this to be a 7/10.
The only game I forgive durability in is Monster hunter and, in universe, it makes sense since you are almost always using your weapons on creatures with hides so tough you are hunting them to improve the gear you carry. Also I can just sharpen the fucking thing in the field and it's back to 100%.
Forgive, true. Justified, indeed. But imagine a world without durability in Monster Hunter. While playing it would you think "I wish I could stop fighting this monster and sit around a sharpen my weapons for a bit" ?
I bounced right off of breath of the wild, despite loving classic zelda titles. I will be giving tears a pass.
If it was because of weapon durability, this one makes it so you have weapons coming out of your ears. If it was jumping puzzles and climbing... oof this one is worse.
While limitations imposed on the player can be as important as how the player is empowered for creating good game play, I must agree that no person has ever seen a game without a weapon durability system and thought such a system would improve the game. Same goes for stamina systems and limited inventory.
Viva la Steph, great review!
You're not wrong on any point, but I'm happy to be less annoyed than you by the game's dumb quirks.
7/10 I see what you did there 😁
Thanks for the review!
I am intensely amused you ended up (quite fairly, from the full content of your review) at the same score. I would almost have expected you to go with 6.9999 or something similar just for the giggles, but as you rightly say that would likely end up being perceived as being done for clicks. Here's hoping that people don't actually get their various underwears in a twist over this one... Even though we all know they will.
There are already multiple people saying the durability system is good.
Leading with the controversial statements to see who reads past the first paragraphs, eh?
