New Patreon Features: Roadmap Update!
Creators!
Hello from my hotel room in New Jersey (out here visiting our NYC office)!
This is gonna be a loooong post… but we are building like mad, and I want you all to have an inside view of 1) what’s happening on Patreon right now and 2) our roadmap.
A few important notes to kick off:
1: Features List: to skip straight to the features just scroll down to the section of this post entitled “Features List.” It’s a quick overview of every feature that I discuss below, without the extra detail and preamble.
2: This post is a bit of an experiment with extra transparency. We are giving you a heads up on a lot of features that are currently being built, tested, and not yet rolled out. Please let me know if you like that "preview" approach or if it's just annoying to see a bunch of things that you don't have access to yet. I would really love your feedback on this – feel free to let me know in the comments.
3: The team will be responding in the comments section of this post. I’ll be there, too. As a creator, I find it annoying how a lot of tech companies launch features from behind a podium on stage – it feels like a one-way announcement instead of a two-way opportunity to hear from the community. So I hope this feels more like a conversation and less like some grand announcement. For deep thoughts on product feedback and feature requests, you can also submit it here. This help us organize all the ongoing feedback we get.
4: The below roadmap is not just a set of new features. It represents our belief that there’s a better way for creativity and community to exist on the internet. The current version of the web is a failed promise for creators and fandoms. As creators, we can’t even reach our followers on the platforms anymore. Social media has created mass polarization, addiction, and made it increasingly difficult to build a creative community and business. I refuse to believe that this is the best way that the internet can work for creators and fans. I believe it can be better.
And that’s what the below roadmap is. It’s Patreon trying to build a better network – and a better internet – from a different set of values: 1) long term relationship instead of short term addiction, 2) getting creators paid for their work instead of trying to get away with using it for free, and 3) investing in human creativity and agency. If you want to hear more about the principles underneath how we’re building, check out this Op Ed I made for the New York Times.
So with that context, here we go:
The Network is Now Rolled Out to All Ages Creators on Patreon
Over the last two months, we’ve opened up our network beta to the vast majority of creators on Patreon. Specifically, that means all ages creators now have access to:
Quips. A Quip is a shorter post that’s faster and easier to make. Quips show up in the Home feed and help you get in front of new fans.
Public posts. Public posts (as opposed to paid posts) also show up in the Home feed now, making your work more accessible to any new fan or creator using the Patreon apps.
A Home feed. Unlike social media, people you follow show up ON TOP of the Home feed – as they should. There’s also a “memberships” tab for fans who simply don’t want any discovery in their feeds at all.
The above discovery feature set is new, but we’re already delivering 1.5 million new free and paid members to creators every month. The main problems we’re seeing now are for smaller creators: we haven’t yet figured out how to help smaller creators find and grow their audiences. We have a number of updates that I hope will help with this, and if you’re interested, feel free to skip to the section entitled “Updates for Smaller Creators” further down.
So how is this discovery feature set working? Like this:
Creators are using public posts to get in front of new fans. Over the course of the rollout, we’ve seen that creators who make public posts (posts that are not paywalled but instead publicly available) grow their paid memberships 25-30% more than similar creators who don’t.
Here’s how it’s working so far: fans are discovering a creator on Patreon through a free post, enjoying more work from that creator, falling in love, and then eventually converting into paid fans. New memberships from fans discovering creators in the feed are up 5x since our launch in April.
That’s the journey: discovery → free member → paid member.
So we’re building a LOT to make that journey as easy for creators and as joyful for fans as possible:
Clips. Clips is a tool for creators that automatically finds great moments from your long form videos to post in a Quip or download to share off platform.
Suggested previews. Instead of showing fans the first 30 seconds of your video or podcast, our new preview tool finds the best moment from your video to show a fan to pique their curiosity. And if you want more control, you can choose the section of your work that you want to use as a preview instead.
New Creator Page. Once a fan lands on your Patreon page, you should be able to put your best foot forward. So we’ve built a new creator page that’s currently in beta, and we’re now rolling it out to all creators. The new page is more of a place for your identity as a creator – it better showcases your work and shows potential fans who you are as a creative person. We got some feedback from you all that you didn't like the blur on the side, so... it's gone! The layout of the page is also customizable, so you can show up the way you want, and we’re also creating more formatting options to work for more types of creators across any medium, like writing, illustration, podcasts, or videos.
Quoting allows a creator to highlight a section of a longer form written post and turn it into a Quip that links back to the original post. Our hope is that this boosts discovery for creators and makes it easier to create short, interesting previews of longer form written works. It’s like “clips” but for text.
Better image previews. Up until now, all images inside locked posts were just… blurry. That worked for some creators, but not everyone – like if you’re a creator sharing 6 wallpapers, it’s hard for your fans to understand what they would be paying for if all of the wallpapers are blurred. So we're now giving creators (all ages only) more control over exactly what non-members see. On paid posts, you can now unblur your header image to use it as a free preview, or keep it exclusive and upload an unlocked custom thumbnail instead (possible for a while, but easier now). On a public post, you can now add a custom thumbnail too, so the first image people see is the one you chose.
Locked posts & previews in feed. We’ve started surfacing locked posts & previews to your fans in the feed, and we’re seeing some amazing early results in terms of upgrades and free-to-paid conversion. We’re rolling this out carefully, because seeing a feed crammed full of locked posts would obviously be a terrible experience for fans – we have to be very thoughtful about how, and how often, locked posts and previews show up in the feed.
Feed on the web. I think this one is self-explanatory! The feed has been really effective at helping creators grow through the mobile apps, so we’re bringing it to the web as well:
Fan Profiles. Fans will soon be able to customize their own profiles so they can build a personal identity on Patreon and share their love for their favorite creators.
Comments improvements. Comments will be more expressive — fans and creators will be able to add images, threads will load faster as you browse, and it will be easier to get to the right comment from notifications.
Live streaming improvements. We’re launching a “practice” mode so you can test your audio and video setup before going live. A Q&A feature will keep the stream interactive and give creators another way to get feedback from the community. We’re also always improving our underlying livestreaming infrastructure, and the process of scheduling and editing a Live is about to get easier, too.
18+ network rollout. Patreon video and Quips have started rolling out to 18+ creators, too. This comes with increased Trust & Safety implications and costs, so we’re spending extra time to make sure we’re rolling out the network tools to 18+ creators responsibly.
Updates for Smaller Creators
The Patreon team has gotten consistent feedback over the past couple of months from smaller creators that the new discovery features aren’t yet working for them. To be clear, this isn’t just qualitative feedback: we see it in our data, too.
To the smaller creators on Patreon: the lack of discovery you’re seeing right now is not your fault. It’s ours. I can’t honestly guarantee that everyone will get millions of new fans on Patreon – that is not an achievable goal. But you shouldn’t have to be a huge creator to benefit from Patreon’s discovery systems. If you make posts that other people love, Patreon should help you get in front of new potential fans. That’s the goal.
So we’re making a few changes in pursuit of that goal:
Niches. We’re starting to work on new topic-based community spaces that allow multiple creators and fans to commune around shared interests. Think of it kind of like a subreddit, but where the creators hang out, too. One of the hopes for these interest-based communities is that creators of any size can get together, make posts, see each other’s work, and start getting more visibility. Fans can also jump into the discussion and connect directly with creators. This project is still in the super early stages, but early prototypes look like this:
Discovery algorithm updates. The biggest change we’re making – that we hope could have a positive impact for smaller creators – is shifting the way our discovery algorithm works. Before, our recommendations systems were focused on finding similar creators to the ones a fan already loved. The problem with this system, though, is that it tended to favor larger creators by definition – the creators who already had lots of fans. The change we’re making is to focus more on the post, so instead of comparing creators to other creators, we’re comparing posts to other posts. That comparison includes the topic, style, craft, themes, and anything that makes it worth enjoying, no matter who created it or how many members its creator has.
Getting more fans on Patreon. The main problem for small creators (and all creators, actually) is simply that there aren’t as many fans on Patreon as there are on other platforms. I wrote a post a few months ago about the “supply and demand” balance we’re working through as we open up the network to more creators, and the truth is we are still in the early days of figuring this out. In the meantime, we have a number of teams working to get more fans onto Patreon in the first place, so that we can keep helping creators find new fans and grow their communities.
I’m so grateful to the community of creators and fans on Patreon who are being supportive as we get discovery humming for everyone. It is a massive effort, and it’s going to take some time, but I believe it’s a fight worth fighting, and I’m so appreciative of all the continued feedback and support.
Safety and Security
Networks come with risk. In 2025 alone, for example, our Trust & Safety team reviewed over 13,000 reports of harassment, and over 3,000 reports of dangerous organizations operating on Patreon. It’s so important to take these risks seriously. We are publishing regular transparency reports like this one, because I want us to hold ourselves accountable to keeping Patreon safe as we scale. The below roadmap is a selection of things we’re building to do that:
Extra sign-in checks. An additional layer of verification when we don't recognize a login attempt, protecting your account and your earnings.
Expanded auto-moderation. We're improving the performance of our auto-moderation system, adding coverage for non-English comments, and will be offering an additional filter for sexual language.
Realtime detection. We've rebuilt our systems for real time spam and impersonation detection so that trolls and spammers – and anyone not meeting our Community Guidelines – don’t even show up in the first place.
Visibility controls. Choose whether you want your memberships, likes, and comments to be visible to others or hidden. This is adjustable on a per-creator level.
Anti-AI-scraping. We are working with Cloudflare to protect you from the AI thieves and scoundrels scraping Patreon to rob you of your work. (I tried a few times to write that sentence in a more balanced way, but I just had to call it like it is.) When it comes to AI, creators deserve compensation, credit, and consent. Anything less is theft. The law hasn’t caught up to the modern world yet, but it needs to. If you want to hear more of my thoughts on AI and the future of creativity, check out this talk I recently gave at SXSW.
Payments & Analytics
One of the most common pieces of feedback we hear from creators is a desire for more detailed payments features and business analytics. Here’s what we’re working on in that realm:
Earnings Insights updates. The Insights Dashboard now includes more granular earnings, membership, and growth data. The Earnings tab now shows your earnings broken down by tier and by billing cadence (monthly vs annual), so that you can better understand what’s driving your business.
Account Balance. A revamped version of your Payouts tab shows you a complete record of earnings moving in and out of your account, including what's available to withdraw, what's pending, and how your balance changes month by month.
Membership insights improvements. Your active member count now includes free trials and members in payment retry, with new filters to break your membership down by trial, gift, active, and retrying status. This gives you more granular visibility into your active member count.
Payments reliability improvements. We’ve made a number of improvements to our payment processing systems to drive more successful payments while also making it easier for fans to restore access if their card gets declined.
Retry-to-free conversion. After about 30 days of failed payment retries, members convert to free membership instead of dropping off completely, which makes them roughly twice as likely to resubscribe after a payment failure.
Features List
The below list includes several pilots, tests, and many features that are not fully rolled out yet. We may not fully release everything below – it depends on feedback we get from creators and fans over the coming months as we roll each project out. But with that said, here’s what we're working on:
Network
Creator page layout customization: Adjust how your creator page is laid out so fans see your most important work first, in the format that fits your medium — whether you're a writer, visual artist, or podcaster.
Clips (iOS early access): Turn your videos into short, shareable clips you can post as a Quip or download to share off-platform to bring new fans back to your Patreon.
Suggested previews (video): Surfaces the most engaging moments from your paid videos, giving potential fans a sample of your work before they decide to unlock or join a membership.
Quip quotes: Quote snippets of longer written posts into Quips, so you can share previews of your writing to the Home feed.
Unlock images in paid posts: Unlock your header image inside paid posts to give fans a glimpse of what’s behind the paywall.
Custom/unblurred thumbnails on public posts: Add a custom thumbnail to any public post, so fans always see your best work first.
Paid posts in Home feed: Your locked paid posts get surfaced directly to new fans in the Home feed, so more people see previews of your exclusive work and decide to join.
Home feed on web: Use the Home feed everywhere you use Patreon, on a web browser or in the app.
Community
Niches: Dedicated topic-based communities built around specific interests, subcultures, and fandoms where you, your fans, and other creators can find and connect with each other.
Fan profiles: Fans can customize their own profile so they can build a personal identity on Patreon.
Richer, faster comments: Fans and creators will soon be able to add images to comments, making conversations more expressive. Plus, comments now load faster as you navigate through them.
Easier Live scheduling: Start and edit your scheduled Lives anytime, no need to wait for the 5-minute pre-Live window anymore.
Live practice mode: A private session that looks and works like a real Live, so you can test your camera, mic, and setup before anyone sees you.
Live Q&A: When members submit and upvote questions in the Q&A tab during your Live, you or your mods can highlight and answer them without needing to fish through the chat.
Patreon video playback and casting improvements: Your Patreon videos play back and cast on any Android TV device.
18+ Patreon video and Quips rollout: Continued rollout of access to Patreon video and Quips for Adult/18+ creators.
Fewer, more organized notifications: Fewer, more relevant notifications, including bundled similar alerts and reorganized settings so it's easier to manage what you receive.
Safety & Security
Extra sign-in checks: An additional layer of verification when we don't recognize a login attempt, protecting your account and your earnings. We are also adding additional checks to verify a creator’s identity to add an additional layer of safety.
AI scraping defenses: Additional protections against unauthorized AI scraping of your work on Patreon.
Visibility controls: Choose whether your memberships are publicly visible and whether your activity, likes, and comments get highlighted in feeds, down to the per-creator level.
Expanded auto-moderation: we're improving the performance of our auto-moderation system, adding coverage for non-English comments, and will be offering an additional filter for sexual language.
Payments & Analytics
Earnings insights updates: More granular earnings, membership, and growth numbers, with an earnings tab that now breaks down by tier and billing cadence.
Membership insights upgrades: Your active member count now includes free trials and members in payment retry, with new filters to break your membership down by trial, gift, active, and retrying status.
Network growth email: See how the feed is working for you, by understanding how many new members found you via the feed, and how that leads to membership revenue over time.
Account balance: A revamped version of your Payouts tab giving you a complete record of earnings moving in and out of your account, including what's available to withdraw, what's pending, and how your balance changes month by month.
Payment reliability improvements: Improving our payment processing systems to drive more successful payments while also making it easier for fans to restore access if their card gets declined.
Audience Relationship Manager improvements: The Audience Relationship Manager loads much more quickly now, even for creators with large audiences.
Retry-to-free conversion: After about 30 days of failed payment retries, members convert to free instead of dropping off, making them roughly twice as likely to resubscribe to you.
OK That’s It Bye
I hope this was helpful! Again, our community and product teams will be active in the comments section of this post (as will I), so feel free to ask any questions or give us any feedback, and to request a feature, go here.
Please be on the lookout for future posts from me about.... THE FUTURE OF PATREON! As Patreon moves through its 13th year on planet Earth, I've been thinking a ton about how to ensure we stay true to our mission and true to our community as we scale. The last generation of tech companies, in my opinion, have enshittified. I think there's a way to break that cycle, and I want Patreon to be the leader in that new world. I CAN'T WAIT to update you all on my thinking about this. If you want a preview, you can check out this incredible new book called "Incorruptible," by Eric Ries, which looks at the last 100 years of companies, what went wrong, and how to fix it. Absolutely fires me up!
And finally, I'll leave you with this ON-THE-MONEY commentary on the creative process from Patreon creator Mike Dawson:
Thank you for reading this far, and see you soon!

Hi Jack and the Patreon Team, Really appreciate the transparency in this roadmap, especially the focus on smaller creators. But honestly, I need to share what's actually happening with my page right now because the discovery system just isn't working for me at all. On this new account, I've been consistently putting out high-quality, well-organized posts, but my public visibility and reach are practically dead. I'm genuinely worried that my account is being ghost-banned or flagged as spam by the algorithm for some reason. I'm strictly following every single rule, yet I feel completely invisible. It's incredibly frustrating to put in so much hard work just to get zero reach. If Patreon seriously wants to back smaller creators, the algorithm needs to stop burying new accounts that post frequently. Plus, we creators need clear indicators if our page's visibility is being restricted.I'd really love to get your insights on why a hard-working creator's reach can completely freeze like this. Thanks,
When can we expect the niche system to roll out to everyone?
Everyone asks for functions probably no one will see me there are things that I understand Patreon is right about spam That in other social networks there are or flood with publications I think that's worth everything and in social networks it is not quality I say there is too much spam or AI accounts or worse many channels which Small creators do not manage to grow what I do think It is unfair is that you put a level here in the Patreon app you put $30 of price and it comes out $50 I don't say that Patreon is left %30 But they should check because Ami is passing me I put low level and in the app it comes out low level to those who pay almost double now the experience quip would be better if they added tips gifts within publications and lives also The lives live direct that whoever broadcasts a live comes out above the quip posts in the application since that would give a lot of Patreon of profits leaving a part of The gifts and the rest for creator mejor y todo mundo valla a app Que si tengan las cosas
I greatly appreciate the amount of attention and work going into helping us small creators attract new fans. It's really hard seeing all of these big creators promote each other and leave us smaller, insignificant guys in the dust ✌️
Patreon, when 18+ creators will have the option to chose what image is free and what image is paid? come on, do you always need to screw us over?
This will benefit the daily devotionals, wonderful!
This sounds so nice
Can we get an option to block any post from people we don't follow? I do not like the Discovery B.S. at all, its not what I come here for.
Hey what happened to share post to chat automatically when we make a new post? It used to be in the post settings, that was really helpful.
Really excited for the improvements to testing live stream tech. Hopefully we get the ability to upload docs & custom image in advance, so that multiple scheduled lives are easy to see for our Patrons. Niches also sound great. I am a bit overwhelmed scrolling through all the many different types of pages on the home feed and would love the ability to better customize that to my interests.
CAN WE PLEEESE GET THE OPTION OF Making the clip a HORIZONTAL size CLIP DOWNLOAD like we do for the promo card?
This is very useful information, thank you! I currently have no followers because no one knows about me yet. Since I share amazing things that no one has ever heard of, I especially liked this: "The change we’re making is to focus more on the post, so instead of comparing creators to other creators, we’re comparing posts to other posts." I hope the new algorithms will help more people discover me. We’ll see. I also have a suggestion. Since I devote a lot of time to my work and to my creative work on Patreon, I simply don’t have enough time to communicate here. So help with promotion is especially important to me. One way to provide that help could be through Quips. Right now, no one sees my Quips, so no one reads them. I suggest showing Quips to a random 1,000 people — including people who aren’t following you and have never heard of you. That way, a talented creator whom nobody knows about yet could quickly be discovered. This would help all of us grow. It could work on the same principle as YouTube Shorts, where videos are initially shown to a small number of random viewers, and depending on their response, the number of views can then be increased. Please do the same thing in the Quips section. Thank you!
I’m curious to see if Patreon is ever going to work with creators directly to get more potential fans into the Patreon network. For example. I have 12k followers on instagram and “only” 320 free members on Patreon. It seems like there is a lot of potential there for me as a creator but also for Patreon as a whole to work together and strategise how to get those 12k followers into the network. Does anyone have any more substantial thoughts on this?
Ohh I just gor the new homepage layout! So so so much better. Thank you Patreon
As a former OF model and manager, I think this platform is awesome in general! It’s like a “vanilla” OF, with options.🤩👀👍🏾
Hi, im new here so do appreciate all the info! If you’re truly open to feedback, I think quips and clips should always be free and clear(not blurred out) to public so potential fans can see what they’re getting into. I came across several creators whose bios I loved, but they had not one single sample available for free??? Get what I’m sayin here? Namaste
Hi. When do customer service respond pls I've been having issues with a pending payment since Saturday and no one has gotten back to my emails and the payment which says sent still haven't been credited to my acct or be refunded what's going on pls.
This is all great, looking forward to these! Here are my dev suggestions on the new COLLAB feature after using it a few times: https://patreon.com/boezi/posts/166604364?collabs Requests: Notifications, scheduling, and (big one) headnotes.
Hi Jack, I am glad that there will be way to avoid the blurred teaser images soon. Can’t wait to see this. Does that means I can place a gallery at any place in my posts soon? It’s so annoying to have the gallery at the first place, where it often does not make any sense.
Yesss!! This platform gives me a great sense of nostalgia while being something entirely new!! I'm trying to hype it up to more creators, too! I love the level of control y'all give us while keeping it easy to navigate 😍 🫶🏼 thank you Jack!! 🤗🩵
Let's talk about this is the most brilliant idea what Patreon needs what if the live ones were like the quip you make a live people what are and are not subscribed to you or you could enter see your dirento a live were as it happens on YouTube people join the live without being subscribed people would join more to the creators the one who is a fan could feel better knowing that he could be in lives watching the people who are in dirento that it is for the whole audience to know your favorite creator without knowing that he existed but Patreon puts a live that the creator can say is for all public whoever he can see if the oncion is already there but not for that it appears to people who are not subscribed is the bad thing about Patreon I think that if they add something live style for public put the lives in suggestions of the agorhythm was better it is my opinion on all platforms it is already on Patreon no
Clap, clap, clap! Love the new features. You are making Patreon the supreme platform we all desperately needed. Thank you, Jack (and team)
Thanks so much for providing this road map. Letting us know what features are coming lets us plan ahead of time how to take advantage of them as the roll out. New things without warning sometimes leaving thinking, "but I would have if only I'd known..." as we scramble to change our own road map.
Jack! Thank you very much for this information. Very well thought out and very well explained. I think Patreon is on its way back!
Some creators are spamming, which hurts the whole platform. We should ask users how often they would like to be notified about new products and what their interests are would be really nice as well. Not every user wants an email about every single post. And some users are only interested in certain topics I create about. It would be nice to be able to say "hi thanks for following, which of these topics do you want to be kept in the loop for, and how often do you want to be notified about updates?". This would do wonders to make sure smaller/slower creators notifications don't get buried under the spam of other creators who are either bigger, or just constantly overuse/abuse the notification system. If one creator spams, the whole platform suffers from it and can be silenced. I believe reducing spam should be a core priority of Patron to protect the notification system.
I would like to dynamically assign personalized pricing: I want to be able to tell the API "User X gets 50% off" without having to create a public/shared discount code. This would let me automate rewards based on things like activity, loyalty, referrals, or community contributions (my app would take care of that, I just need a API). Current discount codes can be copied and used by anyone, I can't target them to a specific user, group, or country. Current discount codes don't offer granular contro. For example:l I offered early users 60 days discounted access through a code, and later reduced that to 30 days through a new code. The system allowed the 60 days users to then use the 30 days code right after 🤡 So: More granolar control, and ability to target specific users/groups would be really nice.
Wow, I just caught this one! Honestly, I've been in pretty heavy "passive posting" mode on Patreon for the past few months. I've been busy building the WildFIRE Universe, dealing with stuff here in Japan, and generally looking at the entertainment and SNS industries from a much broader perspective, so I haven't really been checking Patreon for Creators very much. I was definitely one of the more vocal critics when the new platform changes first rolled out, especially because of the Discovery issues. So I decided to step back for a while and look at things from a much broader perspective before forming too strong an opinion. And to be honest, I think Patreon is actually heading in the right direction. There are some pretty massive shifts happening across the entertainment and social media industries right now because of changes in technology, AI, copyright and trademark laws, IP, and the way people are consuming and discovering content. I think a lot of platforms are going to have to rethink how they work over the next few years. So I'm really glad to see that you and the team listening to the feedback, especially the feedback coming from smaller and newer creators, and actually trying to address the Discovery problem. I really like the idea behind Niches. The old-school FFXI and WoW guild mentality immediately makes sense to me. 😂 Give people a place where they can gather around a shared interest, discover creators organically, talk about the subject, and build relationships without everything having to happen through someone's individual page or shop for engagment/interactions on another creator`s page. Honestly, if Patreon gets this right, I could even see some creators eventually having less need for a separate Discord server for certain types of communities. The community could just naturally develop inside Patreon. And I think the proposed shift toward post-based discovery could be HUGE for smaller creators. If the system is actually evaluating the content itself, things like the topic, style, craft, themes, and what makes a particular post interesting, instead of primarily looking at how many members a creator already has, then I think that could level the playing field a LOT more!☺️ One Theory About Getting More Fans Onto Patreon This is probably the biggest problem, and honestly, I think the easiest answer might simply be... Confirmed Success Stories. Fans tend to follow momentum, and people love "zero-to-hero" stories, especially when they feel like they discovered someone early and actually had an opportunity to be part of their journey. They want to be able to say, "I found this person before everyone else did." "I supported them when they were small." "I was there from the beginning." That's a pretty powerful thing. So I think Patreon needs to show people examples of smaller, newer creators who were struggling on other platforms, came onto Patreon, started getting discovered, gained momentum, and eventually blew up. If fans can actually SEE that happening, I think it changes the way they look at Patreon - because it created the one thing that the world desperately needs right now... Real HOPE. ✨ Just a few breakout success stories across each of the main categories is all it would really take to start creating that "positive loop". Instead of thinking, "Why should I join another platform?" they start thinking, "Maybe I can actually discover someone here before they become huge," or even better: "Maybe I can stop struggling and finally become a successful creator if I join Patreon too!" And that would be a game changer, because those fans and new creators will naturally bring their own friends, families, and communities along with them. That's where I think the real growth could happen. And ironically, as you and the team pointed out, the current algorithm may have actually been preventing those kinds of success stories from happening by heavily favoring creators who were already successful... If the new system really does give smaller creators a fair shot at being discovered based on the quality and appeal of their actual content, that could finally start changing. Obviously, that's just my theory from the outside looking in, but I think it's something worth considering. Most of the other proposed changes and updates also seem very well thought out. I can tell the Patreon team has spent a LOT of time and effort figuring this stuff out, listening to creators, looking at the data, and trying different approaches. And honestly, that makes me feel... safe. ☺️ That's probably the biggest compliment I can give you guys. I'm still going to have opinions. 😂 I'm a creator. That's kind of what we do. And I'm very vocal (because I'm old...) But I'm also willing to be patient and see where this goes. I really appreciate you and the Patreon team actually listening to creators, especially the smaller ones, and putting this much effort into trying to make Patreon a better place for both creators and fans. Great job, Patreon team, and thank you for all the hard work. 🙏 I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where all of this goes! 🔥
Funnily enough, I love the blur 😂 wonder if that can be a toggle…
Very exciting developments! So many great ideas here, and I'm particularly curious to see how the fan profiles and "niches" work out. I think both of those ideas have a lot of potential!
Loving that you are helping us small creators too - Thank you x
As a smaller creator who has been around for 5 years, I get really frustrated by how low I show up in Search -- I get being below more popular Creators and those who post more regularly, but I am also below people with fewer Patrons and some inactive accounts who haven't posted in months or years. The algorithm for Search results is a mystery to me. I'd love to see Search prioritize not just (**active) creators with a lot of Patrons but smaller accounts who have updated their feed recently. Would also encourage Creators to post!
Really interesting update. The "Niches" idea would work well in the ukulele community, I bet. It's a really friendly, noncompetitive field with a lot of crossover fans. I'd love to be mixed in with more of the larger creators there, as I give a TON of content but don't have the name recognition of someone who tours and does all the festivals.
Can someone from the Patreon team explain to me if this is working as intended, you've somehow created a large problem for me posting. I post images of finished products for people to see, and then they are paywalled to access patterns and art to make those products. As it stands right now if you post 1 image you can slide it to free, if you post more than one image they're all blurred. Given the New Patreon Features: Roadmap Update! on August 24th from Jack, and this specific part of it, I feel like it's working as intended... but that intended seems pretty awful: "Better image previews. On a public post, you can now add a custom thumbnail too, so the first image people see is the one you chose." There must be many creators who have images to display things that are not for part of what people are subscribing to obtain (the images), and you've gone actually backwards in making this worse instead of better. Also I must jut be confused at how things worked before, I always just went in and unblurred my image and thought it would just display the image to people no matter what. I am obviously wrong in that. So in the end this may actually be better, but just confused the hell out of me... not understanding why people can't just see all my images.
These are great new features – thank you. I have three requests for future features: 1) It would be great to pin a post in a collection so that, for example, a post describing the collection could remain at the top, with subsequent posts appearing newest to oldest; 2) a way to add your own text to a collaborative post before it gets sent to your members (so your members don't get an e-mail containing a post from someone they may not know); and 3) a way to go live with another Patreon creator. Thanks!
I agree with all of these but especially that it is a confusing aspect of collaborative posts that if I let the other person post them, they come from "someone else" on my feed with very little explanation!
Hey Jack! We’ve recently moved our music library onto Patreon, and we’ve been working with our dance teachers on using Patreon’s offline download feature for classes. We discovered that the offline Library/Downloads feature works great in the Patreon mobile app, but many of our teachers actually teach from their laptops rather than their phones or tablets. Is there any possibility of bringing the same offline listening functionality to desktop/laptop users — where content could be saved for offline playback within Patreon, rather than requiring the actual audio file to be downloaded? This would be incredibly helpful for dance teachers and other educators who work in studios, gyms, and classrooms where Wi-Fi isn’t always reliable. Just wanted to put that use case on your radar. We’re really enjoying building our teacher music library on Patreon and think this would be a great addition! 🙌🎶
I liked this type of communication, keep it up!
Since Patreon is showing more interest in streaming, is there any chance that the max stream quality will be increased to 1440p/4K? Also, any chance we’ll get the ability to dock stream chat in OBS Studio and have a chat overlay browser source? Finally, I just realized there's no Public option for livestreams on Patreon, only for free and paid members - I think a Public option (like we have for Quips) would open a big door for discoverability for new people to find us.
Please, please give us the ability to retire tiers that involve being able to move members to a free tier. There is no reason this shouldn't exist already.
in certain payment methods, that does block the card from future online payments
You announced Direct Video Upload and Quips for all creators including adult creators since last month. But still I don't have access to these new features. Can you please clarify if we need to do something in our end or just wait for Patreon to update the platform and give us the promised features. Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi there. Patreon video will be rolling out to creators who make work for 18+/adult audiences soon; we’re in early access now before access expands to the wider community. To clarify, early access opens a feature to a select group of creators before wider release in order to gather learnings, feedback, and to make sure that everything works as intended. When access expands, you won’t have to do anything special, you’ll see the features in your dashboard. Quips are also part of this access, so when you see Quips as an option in the composer menu, it’ll also include the option to upload Patreon videos in posts or Quips.
Thank you for explaining this all. I’m still trying to find my way around this platform ❤️
Thank you for sharing this with us. It makes a difference to know what’s in the pipeline as it allows us to plan accordingly. Would love for Patreon to have a framework for Collabing with other creators where we can split the income/expenses at the platform level. For eg I’m running a workshop with another creator, I’m in SA and they are in the US. We’re using Payhip, which (minus the transaction fees/taxes) splits the money between collaborators once a purchase has been made. It could be that creators can collaborate on a paid post, or a Collection.
Greetings, are we going to be able to go live with other creators?
As a creator, I’ve been thinking about how much Patreon could evolve by introducing its own financial ecosystem—like an official Patreon card and integrated banking services. Removing reliance on third-party payment processors would streamline international payouts and support for global communities like ours here in Brazil. It would be a game-changer for cross-border creators and backers alike. Big shoutout to the team, we truly love Patreon down here in Brazil! 🇧🇷❤️
Thanks this is a very clear and helpful description of what can seem like a blizzard of changes. And it does feel concise yet transparent.
Hey Jack, I’ve been having this idea that in my opinion would be a great addition for people who work for example with models (like me ;)): an affiliate program for collaborators. So, I work with a model (who I pay btw), and they can earn some extra money from sharing my Patreon. Win win! Let me know what you think.
Love these changes! Would really love a way to edit my membership spots on the mobile app. Currently when i open up spots for my sign ups, i can only edit that on the browser. A better interface on the app for the creator perspective would be great! Scheduled date and time to allow patrons to sign up for a specific tier that will close at a specific time would be really cool. I do a mail club that only has sign ups the first week of the month with a limited availability for spots.
Greetings! It would be helpful to be able to grab transcript from my lives so o can make other content.
One thing that was good about early social media was how promiscuous it was...it was easy to just wander around and find people or things of interest. I find Patreon very hard to navigate. Seems we need to know precisely what we want in order to find it. I want to be able to wander around more easily and find random cool stuff. More items in the Feed. An easy list of Quips.
love to see it! thank you! very curious about niches 👀
Please check out my Light Walkers Patreon page to see how a small creator is utilizing every aspect of your platform and drawing people in. I see Patreon becoming the go to social media platform because we can bring our business here and cross network. That being said, can we start adding hashtags? Also, on the lives, can we be more of a zoom platform so the fans can start interacting verbally? I Love the Q&A. That helps a lot! Love love love this patform. Thank you!
I would love to get more control over what posts come in from people I don't follow. I am a Patron of one band, because I love their music and want to support them, but as a result most of my suggested posts are about music production. Marking that I'm not interested in a single post, without being able to say why I'm not interested or what I'm not interested in, doesn't seem to help the algorithm understand. I think that surfacing the keywords and categories associated with accounts that we support and letting us choose which ones we want to see more or less of would make the home page far more useful.
Finally you all are doing something for 18+ creators! It's been tough to keep people entertained when they have to leave the app they pay for to go to another app just to see a 30 sec. video. I can't wait to see when this actually becomes available to us! I also haven't seen more traffic 🙃. In fact, my numbers have dropped significantly ever since this last update. So I do hope that things will change for the better. Also, I think TikTok has a strong pull on people who are willing to pay because they're directly talking to the creators and watching them work. There, they don't need a subscription, they can buy, send tips, and schedule real-time commissions. Then watch as their creator begin to work on it. Hopefully live will work the same here. Great info and I like the highly detailed way it's been presented. Keep this up!
I like the idea of Niches and that you're identifying the issue of not having as many people here on this platform. Here's some of the challenges I feel like we're facing on both sides: Creators might post videos on youtube because of their partnership program and ad sense moneys. As a small creator, that's a benefit for me for sure though more recently I'm seeing a drop in numbers and at the same time as I view youtube I'm getting served more unskippable ads than ever. So for the viewers, the viewing experience is getting worse. But the view of Patreon is that the viewing is some how less good, the player doesn't work as well, I'm not sure what. I like the UI of viewing things on Patreon and I find the player works really well and remembers in progress videos way better than youtube. The thing that's tricky for creators like me is posts on Patreon for free tiers don't generate any funds at all. Mind you, for that $3 I made off of that last video, not a reason enough to do one or the other. But I think as viewership picks up, the incentives for viewers to become members for exclusive content is less. Anyhow, it seems like a little bit of a challenging slope and puzzle to figure out. I also wonder if Patreon in itself has a niche that is their viewers, but maybe with enough draw for creators and viewers alike we'll leave the other options in search of more ad free time where we can make what we make. I almost wonder if there's an interesting way to start a trend of viewers ditching other social viewing for a week and watch exclusively on Patreon. Also, love the idea of Niches as I'm one of only a large handful doing content in my niche. One problem for me is that I jumped on it a bit after the big surge during covid. Anyhow, keep doing stuff and I'll keep having stuff in both places and maybe in a year, we'll be having different conversations around Patreon.
My biggest issue, and my biggest feature request, is the ability to prevent paid-tier posts from being emailed to free members. Patreon currently offers an option to prevent free posts from being sent to paid members. I would like the same functionality in reverse: when I select “Paid Members Only,” I should have the option to send the post notification only to paid members. Here is the issue I am currently experiencing: I upload ad-free videos to my paid members. I then create a separate post for my free members that contains an embedded YouTube version of the same video, which includes ads and gives them the option to upgrade to a paid membership for ad-free content. With this setup, my free members currently receive two emails: 1. An email about the paid-member-only post, with the content blocked because they are not paying members. 2. A separate email containing the free YouTube video. This feels like unnecessary email spam for my free members. They are receiving notifications about content they cannot access, even though I have specifically designated the post as “Paid Members Only.” Please add an option to ensure that paid-member-only posts generate email notifications only for the eligible paid members. It would make much more sense for free members to receive emails only about content that is actually available to them, while paid members receive notifications about their exclusive content. This would be an extremely valuable improvement for creators who use different content and benefits to distinguish free and paid memberships. Thank you for considering this feature request.
Regarding that second bullet point up top: I love the preview of things further out that might not be immediately usable! All of the updates you’ve shared in this post are very reassuring that we’re all headed in the right direction and knowing that really helps me create here with much more enthusiasm and confidence.
Do you know if Patreon plans to add stronger image-protection or web-viewing options in the near future so people can't easily save high-res files straight from the feed?
Love this keep it up! 👍🏾
Could we have an option so Quips are posted to only non-followers/supporters? I think this would be really good as I’m just starting out and don’t want to bombard my followers with notifications if I post lots of them! I know I can ask them to turn it off in their settings obvs.
It was my understanding that Quips are also posted to non followers. Or do you mean, only to non followers?
As a smaller creator myself, I really appreciate that attention is being paid to helping us grow too! I've been on Patreon since 2019 making an indie webcomic, and would love to see some niches added for that space. (Perhaps even with some genre tags? I'm sure other authors would appreciate that too!) Thanks for being receptive to feedback and trying to create a space that can be mutually beneficial between platform and creator. It feels like so many platforms these days just want to siphon everything creators have and give them almost nothing in return in terms of quality of life improvements or growth opportunities. I'm definitely excited for a lot of what's in the works on this list!
I'm happy for some new features for us little creators as well. Makes me feel heard and not having to swim these waters alone
You stated "We got some feedback from you all that you didn't like the blur on the side, so... it's gone!" - How does one remove the blur as it still shows on my cover page on a laptop? If I upload a new image in the "Upload Cover Image" section, there is still a heavy blur on the left of the image that ruins the photo.
To clarify, this update is rolling out very soon. The banner image changes will be happening in September for creators who are already on the new page design, you should receive updates about this individually soon.
This is all very optimistic and truly gave me a sigh of relief. Like so many here, I rely on Patreon as my primary source of income to make the things I make full-time. I am especially happy about the layout changes for banner images that remove the side blur (I was one of those voices that does not like it). Any idea when that feature will go live for us? Thanks so much!
I hope soon! It should be an easy toggle on/off! Covering a quarter of an image that is supposed to catch someone's eye is pretty annoying. Fingers crossed it is implemented soon!
As a long form writer, niches would be amazing to help me connect with people who would find my content helpful and enjoyable. I also like the Quote feature. It would be really nice to be able to share parts of my long form content while still being able to keep it behind a membership wall. And very much looking forward to a more customizable page. Would be really nice to have a tip jar in the future so that we can accept one time payments of support from people who may not be able to commit to a recurring membership and let them do it more than once. Then I could just focus on building my Patreon page instead of posting and maintaining a Ko-Fi account as well. Looking forward to all these changes!
Aww that’s awesome, when you makes an updates to going our further ❤️
This is amazing. I love seeing what's coming in the future, even if it's not accessible yet!
Excited for these new features, especially as a small artist creator like myself. I can't wait to try out more abilties for our home page
And you were right about one thing. That was a verrry long post :)
Hi thanks! Is there a way to see the top downloaded files from all my posts? I attach files to my posts but cannot see what is popular...
Beneficial to have audio added to quips so that we can do up to three minutes of a voice message for our patrons? Thank you so much, Jack and team, for your hard work on this platform. We’re all grateful to experience your vision.
Hi Levi. Thanks for this suggestion, and your kind words. We don’t currently have this feature on our roadmap now, but we’ll pass along to our team for consideration.
Loving this update and thanks for allyou're doing to support
JUST TO ADD MY "NICHE" WOULD BE "MOMMA" (ENSURING A CONNECTION WITH HER PATS) AND I AM A HUGE ADVOCATE FOR MENS MENTAL HEALTH. THEY FLOCK TO ME ACROSS ALL MY PLATFORMS. BUT I WISH TO REITERATE THAT "I AM CURVY CONFIDENT" NOT "COME GET ME"! 💪🏽🙋🏼♀️ KATE BURLOW 🌈
Heya, I'm just passing by to say thank you. These news features looks like really interesting ! Niches could be my favorite for now. Thank you again !
I READ THIS AND GOT EXCITED: I COULDN'T WAIT TO POST IMAGES TO MY PATS IN MY DM's AND FINALLY BE ABLE TO POST VIDEOS/REELS BUT IT STILL WON'T LET ME?!😫 I'M VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I DON'T DO NUDES/PORN AND SO WHY AM I LUMPED IN WITH THIS NICHE AND NOT ALLOWED TO POST REELS?! I'M THINKING OF LEAVING. KATE BURLOW 🌈 https://www.patreon.com/KateEmmaBurlow?utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator
Hi Kate. To clarify, the update Jack shared above is that soon, members will be able to add image media in their post and Quip comments and replies. At this time, images and other media are not supported in Direct Messages. Patreon video will be rolling out to creators who make work for 18+/adult audiences soon, we’re in early access now before access expands to the wider community. In the meantime, if you make 18+ content, whether lots of posts or just a single post, that needs to be classified as 18+. Doing so helps us keep Patreon safe, and compliant with payment system rules. It helps us feel confident only adults are creating and engaging with 18+ works. That's something we take seriously. But, if you feel we've made a mistake on your page and you believe it should be classified as work suitable for all audiences, let us know here: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/8304008537741-Should-my-campaign-be-marked-Safe-for-All-Audiences-or-Adult-18-and-how-do-I-recategorize
I would love to contribute to the Acoustic Music Live Streamer Niche. I've been plotting ideas for years, as we are a weirdly overlooked niche. We have similar but different needs from live musicians and live streamers; we are live streaming musicians (and also often musicians, and streamers, separately). Not DJs, not exactly IRL, not x, y, z. There are a lot of unmet needs here, and we are actually quite a large and growing niche. I'd love to help yall implement some stuff if you're interested.
I am so excited for these implementations !! I find it really hard to grow on Patreon so far, not been for long but these features may help new creators to get discover 🤩🤩 And as you mentioned let’s not make this the new Instagram full of advertisements but real communities and creators behind it 🤍
When is video/live stream being implemented for +18 exactly?
Hi Miss Dawson. We do not have an update about expanding access for Patreon Live just yet, but we are in progress of expanding access of Patreon video, and Quip to creators who make work for 18+/adult audiences. We’re in early access now before access expands to the wider community, stay tuned as we’ll share more updates as access expands.
This updates are awesome!!!!! 🥳🥳 I love reading about features as they're being developed, even if it will be a while before they're launched, because it's cool to give feedback so creators and Patreon are on the same page. It's not annoying! :3 Please keep the transparency coming! I'm most excited about Niches and the anti-AI measures! The community aspect of social media is so dead now, so it would be AWESOME to have groups anyone can join around shared interests. Maybe fans could even be able to post in there too. And on AI, I know that Jack doesn't hate all AI work/users, so I'm glad his personal lenience towards it doesn't prevent him from protecting Patreon from scraping. I don't think calling AI crawlers thieves/scoundrels is too harsh at all. It's such a relief that Patreon is moving to combat this issue 🖤 bc as an individual artist, it's easy to feel powerless and dehumanized when your only choices are be insulted/robbed or disappear from the internet. Some feature ideas: 1) automatically populating a Niche group with every "rising creator" on Patreon. Basically having an auto-updating directory of every account on Patreon that has less than 50 patrons. This Niche can be categorized by type (podcast, writing, dance, etc.) and the page trailer videos could be easily viewable on scroll without having to click each one individually. Maybe this Niche could be pushed to fans who are new to the platform and might be looking for new folks to subscribe to. 2) gamifying free followers' interactions with posts. Rewarding free followers for their time/energy/engagement. On social media, it's easy for followers to feel like they're just nodes to be used for their engagement; the creator doesn't care about them as an individual, the creators just wants their Likes/Shares/Comments so the creator can farm more followers. If on Patreon there was a reward set by the creator -- "share 2 of my posts this month and receive access to 1 locked post of your choice", for example -- then even free followers can be rewarded for their interest in promoting a creator. ( A concern of this idea would be inauthentic activity just to get the reward, so any ideas on how to discourage/prevent this? Participation in this reward program is voluntary so if a creator didn't like it they could just not do it I suppose?) 3) a "show me a random account" feature. Maybe this could be a button that appears once users are all caught up in their "memberships" tab? 4) subject matter labels for Patreon pages. As search works now, searching for "sports" will only bring up Patreon pages that have "sports" in the title, which leaves out some pages that are about sports, and might include some pages that aren't about sports. If a creator can label their own pages with accurate subject matter tags, labeling their pages as "sports", "family friendly", "baseball" then when a fan searches for "sports" search will work more effectively. The list of features you're already developing are so great so these would just be icing on the cake :) I'm so excited to see all those develop and more! Thanks so much for all your hard work every day!! 🤍🖤
Not gonna lie. I looooooove the idea of Niches for creators of all sizes and their fans to converse about like minded things. I’ve been lookin for artists on here and it might just be a slow burn because I’m new. But BRILLIANT IDEA! Also, I really love the Anti-AI scraping my goodness. Everyday I think about leaving the other social medias more and more. Thank y’all for caring about creators and fans!! No social media in my opinion is doing it as ethical as you all. 💯🔥
Is it possible that I saw you walking on Canal street in Manhattan about a week ago in the morning with a big backpack? I thought it was you, now this makes sense :)
Some great updates here! I'm very excited about the improvements to the earnings insights, and I've been very interested in the new clipping features for video. Re: flagging spam and harassment, I so appreciate the work to improve those features, but I want to note that I recently had a completely innocent comment from a patron that was auto-flagged as spam, and there didn't seem to be an option for me to manually approve it! I can't find it now, so maybe that's already been corrected, but I just wanted to mention that's an important control to have, since auto-detectors can throw false positives sometimes.
Hi Ginny. Thanks for this feedback, the team is working in improvements to this moderation feature, including updates to help decrease the likelihood of false positives being flagged in auto-moderation. Thank you for raising this, in the meantime, if you continue to see this happen, you can reach out to our Trust & Safety team and they can help resolve any issue if there is a specific comment that you need unhidden.
Hi! I liked the extra transparency and full honesty. That's a good thing, thanks. I would love for you guys to have a niche for content creators about of ancient history and one about the Bible. These would be fun and super helpful.
Thanks for this! I appreciate the transparency and am encouraged to see how many different improvements Patreon is trying to bring to the platform. That gives me confidence to stay longer and try to make a go of things for my work here. Please keep rolling out those Quips and video features to 18+ creators! I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs until I get access to these capabilities, as I've got a new paid tier concept ready to launch as soon as I have video.
Christ that’s a long post. And yet some of us still don’t have access to quips and who knows what other features just because we create mature content.
Here's the part of the long post that you might want to see. From the "here's what we're working on" list: "18+ Patreon video and Quips rollout: Continued rollout of access to Patreon video and Quips for Adult/18+ creators."
Ahhh…🙂 this was a very encouraging (& exciting) post. Your quote is so true. “The current version of the web is a failed promise for creators and fandoms.” I think Patreon is already better than ‘social media’ was and is, and I definitely wouldn’t even assign that label to Patreon. It’s arguably something else entirely. And I’m so happy to read that you’re working on better discovery for smaller creators like us! With the positive feedback we receive from our listeners, we suspect we are onto something good - but like so many other smaller creators, trying to get the word out is so disheartening at times. OK. I’m off to try the new Quote feature :) Thanks 🙏 Lyndon
So many features, thanks for sharing with us! Is there a plan for markdown or code blocks in posts? An improved editor has been on my wishlist for a long time
We don’t have plans at this time to add markdown or code blocks to post editor, but appreciate this request. Please feel free to let us know if there are other editor improvements that would be helpful for you, and we’ll be sure to share with the team.
Thankyou for the chances I like how your helping small creators out and cant wait to see my page get bigger
Roadmap seems good, and I appreciate the transparency. I understand 18+ pages will always have way more cost and restrictions for you, but one change I would love to see is an unblurred thumbnail option for non-visual creators. I write stories, so my thumbnails are mostly cover art and text. I understand the moderation problems this creates, but if it were ever possible to separate content types it would make my page look a lot nicer for potential members.
I'm overwhelmed. I can't wait to get started.
Thank you so much ❤️ as a small creator I already love the perks of moving my community here from Facebook. Very excited to see the new features 🙌
Thanks for all you do! This platform has really blossomed into something special. Even though my account is on the smaller side right now, I am so grateful for every member and the creative community I’m able to grow here 🫶🏻
These updates sound good; however, I really wish there was a way to keep follower numbers visible while hiding paid member counts. It feels like keeping paid member numbers visible undermines the privacy intent of the Earnings settings when its private.
I feel like showing the number of paid members is an advantage - it proves to someone browsing that there are already other people supporting you (and if there's not many supporting you and your work is good then it could encourage the viewer to reward you with a subscription!) - but I understand wanting to have the option to keep that private if you want.
Could you make a separate post or separately marked section in posts like these for 18+ creators? All those features sounds so great, but it's a little frustrating to look for stuff that are relevant to me as a 18+ creator, since most of the post it relevant only to all ages creators.
I feel like, in time, all these features will be available to us too, so we may as well get familiar with them now 😊 Maybe all these will rollout universally sooner than you think.
As a small creator I just think these things are so important and I appreciate all the efforts from the Patreon team!!!! Thank you so much 😊
Awesome 💪👏
As a small creator I appreciate the acknowledgement of the challenges we face here. I also find myself incredibly frustrated as my ability to interact with communities through chats has not been accessible for almost 8 weeks now. I was told it's a "glitch"...that has lasted for 8 weeks with no resolution. Things like this are detrimental to my ability to build community and don't seem to be a priority to resolve. And unfortunately it feels like the same type of silencing/deprioritization that happens on social media outlets. I'm kind of at a loss as I am reading the words that you've written, however the experience isn't matching the intention that has been stated. (I've commented about this before with no follow-up)
Thanks for sharing, we hear you, this does sound like a frustrating experience and the ability to access and interact with your community through chats is important. Please reach out to Patreon’s support team again, share as many details as you can, such as which operating system and browser you are using, and they’ll get back to you with more information to further help troubleshoot the issue you’re experiencing, and provide updates as the team works to resolve this for you.
Hiiiii
Honestly, while I am very excited with all that is coming, my personal priority & interest is for more App functionality. And this is not meant to downplay the improvements that have been made! But.. I personally do everything on my android phone, I don't have a computer. To do quite a bit I currently have to open up Patreon on the web browser, and that is both slower, and more clunky to navigate, in my experience. The things I think would be useful for accessing directly in the app: - Full Audience/relationship manager. I like looking at the audience manager and looking at my audience, as well as keeping track of potential refund requests and exit surveys. - Payout access, I have found a roundabout way to reach it in the app, but a direct tab or something would be nice. - Bulk editing posts and stuff in the library. That's just the main things I am most prioritizing. I'm pretty sure I've also already made feature requests before for these And to be fair, I could just not be finding these options in the app easily, so this might be a nothing burger of thoughts. But honestly, just a little more focus on the app for people like me, who rely on it, would be nice. I might could just be part of a miniscule group of people who exclusively rely on it, but these were my thoughts. Again, I am genuinely excited for where Patreon is going! Have a great day!
Hi Mark. Thank you for taking the time to outline your needs and where Patreon’s apps are not cutting it for how you run your business. At the moment, the three requests you’ve outlined here are not currently planned to be added to Patreon’s apps, but we’ll share your feedback with the team so it can be considered for future updates. Going forward, whether something works for a creator running everything from a phone is a question we're going to ask while we're building, not after.
Love this! Thanks for all that you are doing for creators! Just another plug for live captioning for live streaming direct from Patreon. My community is largely disabled and I’m not able to livestream directly from Patreon because I need to be accessible and that includes live-captioning for my deaf, hard of hearing, ADHD, and other various disability folks. Would love to see this feature so I can be more spontaneous and don’t have to run all my lives through third party software. Again, appreciate all your hard work!! 💜
Hi there. Thank you for sharing this feedback, and clarifying how this feature could benefit you and your members. While don’t have an update on when to expect live captioning natively within Live, we do have a Help Center article that you can share with your members to help them utilize live captioning features on web and at the device level for Chrome browser, MacOS desktop, iOS iPhone and Android mobile operating systems: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/35594631117197-Live-FAQ#:~:text=Are there transcriptions or captions for Lives%3F Alternatively, if you do wish to use a third party streaming service connected to your Patreon Live, perhaps for pre-planned livestreaming events, another option could be to turn on live caption settings on Zoom, and stream that to Patreon. Regardless of which way you prepare your Lives, the recording of the livestream will automatically be saved as a draft once your Live ends, playable through Patreon video, which will caption the event recording. Thank you again for this feedback, we hope to have more to share soon.
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but if you post contains a "Paid content starts here" bar, then the main thumbnail gets blurred too. Meaning even though people can see the free section of the post, they don't think to click on it because it's blurred out as if it was a paid post. Or is this only happening to 18+ accounts? I can't seem to find anything about a thumbnail setting.
Hi there. Great callout, the “paid content starts here” bar indicates that you are writing with a paywalled post, so the header is treated accordingly, with everything above that bar serving as a free preview. Currently, for creators who make work for 18+ audiences, the primary header images remains blurred. We are making improvements to our thumbnail capabilities and hope to extend this to 18+ creators in the future. For now, the best path may be for you to create separate post gated to a free-only audience as a teaser to promote your paid paid post.
What a great article- so many exciting things in the works! As a creator who is also a fan of many other Patreon pages I must say I'm excited at the idea of custom fan profiles and new comments!
Excellent news patreon. Still alot for myslef to learn. In The grand scheme of things. Really enjoying the old school, just getting things dine and being positive. No ego just go honest work being done. And quality connections being developed.. hmmm I feel old I remeber MySpac, and Tom dude had all the mates hahaha. #mysspacegang so wish I new MySpace deetss would be such a vibe to go back! 37 years young! #ThatRandomTwoStrokeGuy
You should really love your work like JACK CONTE, to can reply to almost all comments. It's unbelievable. Happy for you and envy you that you have that much love and passion for what you're doing. Great 👍🏻
Hi Jack and Patreon team! Thanks for the detailed roadmap and especially for the transparency around features still in development. I have a question about annual-only memberships, which Patreon previously announced as coming later this year. Do you expect annual-only memberships to be configurable at the tier level? More specifically, will it be possible to have, on the same Patreon creator page: * a lower tier available as a monthly membership, and * a higher tier available exclusively as an annual membership? This distinction is very important for my membership model, as I’d like to keep my regular membership monthly while offering a higher-value tier only through an annual commitment. I understand the feature is still in development and plans may change. Even knowing whether this is the model Patreon is currently working toward would be extremely helpful for planning. Thanks!
PLEASE, Please 🙏🏻 Don't +18 whole page over just one or two +18 post. Give an option to make that specific post as +18 It's like you categorized my channel as +18 and I can't even back it to normal while %95 of my page is not +18. It would be a lot better if you give an option that we can click check box if one specific product is +18 Please 🙏🏻🥺
Hi there. Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Historically, classifying a whole page as 18+, whether for lots of posts or just a single post, has helped us keep Patreon safe, and compliant with payment system rules. It also helps us feel confident only adults are creating and engaging with 18+ works. That's something we take seriously. But, if you feel we've made a mistake on your page and it should be reclassified as suitable for all ages, you can let us know here: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/8304008537741-Should-my-campaign-be-marked-Safe-for-All-Audiences-or-Adult-18-and-how-do-I-recategorize
Big fan of Patreon and how the platform continues to grow. But I would like to take this opportunity to ask for something else. I've been a creator on Patreon for quite awhile now. I'd love to see the product team prioritize bug fixes over new features for a bit. Like, literally, I wish a bug is fixed rather than a new feature added. As an example, shop sale notifications (push and email) have been broken for over a month—confirmed by support, but still unfixed. I report bugs that I find, and they get attention very very slowly. New tools are exciting and I love your passion, but making sure existing features run reliably is what keeps our businesses running smoothly. Would love to see a focus on stability! ❤️
LONG STORY SHORT IS BELOW DO * **Post publicly** to attract new fans. * Use **Quips** for short, frequent content. * Give paid work **strong free previews**. * Turn good excerpts into **Quip quotes**. * Use **custom thumbnails/previews**. * Optimise your **Creator Page**. * Encourage **comments/community**. * Explore **Niches** when available. * Track **earnings + membership analytics**. * Build **long-term relationships**, not addiction. * Protect your work from **AI scraping**. * Keep experimenting and use Patreon feedback. DON'T * **Don't put everything behind a paywall.** * Don't rely solely on existing followers. * Don't expect discovery to automatically solve growth. * Don't chase **viral/social-media behaviour**. * Don't ignore small-creator discovery problems. * Don't treat views/reach as the only measure of success. * Don't neglect **security, moderation and visibility controls**.
Thanks for sharing your tips, this is solid advice!
I wonder what's the definition of small and big creator ?! For example someone who earns around $1000 monthly would consider as small creator or big !? I just want to know.
Thank you for the transparency and keeping us informed! As a small creator, I am looking forward to the Niche feature that was discussed. It would be awesome to find other indie manga creators and discover each other's works and build community.
In general I don't like where this is going both as a user and a creator. I want to see what the creators I back post but not necessarily others. I don't have time to weed through all of that. I can no longer see the people I want to see in facebook for all the slop they add. My goal here is to reach my followers, not to have my messages crowded out by those of others. Add to that the noise that is added by AI. Don't fool yourself that it won't be. You do this it will. I want a clean experience so I can communicate with my followers and give them value, not to have my message, that they pay for be masked by those of others. I don't really believe that people are browsing to get more people to give money to. They may be browsing to get more people to follow for free, but that is noise, not profit. You are a unique product in the internet, a place where people pay for content or deals, not get it free. You are massively diluting your brand, and your value to those that pay you with a percentage of what they get. An author I know has been moving his followers from here to a site he runs. Why not, no percentage 100% control. This is what you are competing with. Everything I hear is actively reducing your value to me. I can see the business plan, and paid advertising is next. Stick to your strengths. I really don't get why quips are more than re-naming a short post. I don't see why this is all built to generate noise, and if noise is needed to compete as a metric, things will fill the metric, I'm looking at you Ai. What do I want? Integration with shopping carts like Shoppify, so I know if if a subscriber is placing an order. This is worth something to me. I dont want to sell through you, I don't want yet another social media feed to divide my time and enegry from by business, I want you for what you were built for. A way my fans can get extra value for a price. I'd love to give them discounts on my store without having to use a code that they forget. I'd like to toss things into their order if I knew it was them.
Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback. Every new feature or update may not be for you and your unique needs, but we do hope you find some of these new tools worthwhile to explore and beneficial to your creative process and community building on Patreon. The team is constantly at work, and if nothing strikes your fancy today, we hope that future updates to come align with your needs and interests.
Hi Jack! Thank you so very much for caring about creators! I find it so much more joyful to be here than the social media platforms, and I tell my fans this is where I’ll be if they want to find me. Who wouldn’t want a feed that is filled with creativity instead of angry politics? In a world where almost every tech company feels evil, you are clearly doing what you can to create a thriving artists community and I am so grateful! I see you are already getting a lot of suggestions, so I am going to leave my comment just as praise. You deserve it!
Really excited about Niches - and seeing “DnD Maps” used in the prototype immediately caught my attention!! I run Dransky Battle Maps and have built a library of more than 300 static and animated battlemaps across 87 release packs, primarily for D&D, Pathfinder, Foundry VTT, Roll20, and TV tables. A dedicated space where map creators and GMs can meet, share their work, discuss campaign needs, and discover creators of every size feels like a fantastic fit for this part of Patreon. If you’re looking for creators to test the DnD Maps Niche, I’d love to take part and share feedback from the perspective of a battlemap creator working with both free and paid members. <3
You're in NYC?! Can I like... meet you guys? I am not fully trained but am fully trainable, am overflowing with ideas, and would LOVE to offer Anything from my 9 lives that Might help this platform grow. Also, does all of this mean that we are finally getting topics/categories/tags/themes? So fans can select what topics they care about, Creators can tag each post with which topic/category it is, and then the Fan only receives notifications on posts that fit their topics? I THINK I wrote that legibly.... En effect, I want to post about music, fermentation, woodworking, cobbling, tailoring, biking around NYC, crocheting, volunteering, etc. Right now, I worry that I'll scare off followers by bombarding music enthusiasts with unwanted pickles. No one likes unsolicited pickle pics. You're already looking at having the home feed 'related posts' choose relations based on similar topics and styles, but can we also have that "internally" so that we don't overwhelm existing followers? Okay cool, and Thanks for actively trying to combat the current tragic-tory of online maker spaces. We/I genuinely appreciate what y'all are doing out here.
i'm a big supporter of topics/categories/tags/themes, for entire pages and in individual Quips!
I think along with visability for small creators, having a log for how many times a link has been downloaded would be amazing. As a small creator, unless I link my members and the public to an outside source like sfs or curseforge, I have no idea if people want more or less of what I have created. Not only that, but as someone who posts almost everything for free, seeing those numbers rise helps keep you from feeling like all your work is for nothing. It is easier for my members to not have to click on an outside source link and so I have switched back to just providing a patreon link but it also has me in a spot where I have to consider, which platform that I upload to should I give the most attention. I want that platform to be Patreon because I feel like that would be where my community is but other platforms, I know how many people download my content and I feel that should be where i give the most attention. I hope this makes sense. I just think it would be such a win if we could just know how many people are actually clicking on the links provided on Patreon. It would be great if everyone who downloaded left a heart but let's be real.... most people who download do so and keep scrolling.
I've been on here since 2014 and really love watching it grow beyond those early days. 💜Almost everything I've really wanted to see implemented has come to pass, save one. As an artist, selling prints of my work is a large part of my income. I'd love to be able to offer them in my shop along side some other physical items. Any chance of that happening in the near future?
Hi Deven. Thanks for being part of our creator community, 12 years is an incredible milestone! We appreciate you being so candid about what you’re looking for. At the moment, we do not have any immediate plans for a feature to offer the sale of physical items, and appreciate feedback like yours to let us know what you need and why it’s important to how you share your work and run your business. While we’re not working on a feature like this right now, that doesn’t mean we won’t in the future, so thank you for this request.
Nice. Hoping to see it comming from adult pages too. Keep the good work. God bless.
There's a lot of social media integration but still nothing for Bluesky? That would be helpful for those of us avoiding Meta, Twitter, etc...
Hi Adam, thanks for this suggestion. We don’t have plans at this time to add a Bluesky integration, but appreciate this suggestion and will pass it along to the team.
Can you please add a “loop video” option on videos? Similar to how YouTube has repeat video
Thanks for this feedback. Can you share more, how and why looping videos be helpful for you? Any more details you can share would be helpful!
Thank you for the update. Are there any plans to make it easier for users to have more than 1 Patreon and easily switch between them? It’s just very cumbersome now and making me hold off on making another one for my other uses.
Hi Charlene. We hear you that it’s a bit tough to switch between accounts right now. While we don’t have news today about a feature like this, this something that the team has been thinking about. Many of the updates we’ve implemented recently will help set us up to build something like this in the future. In the meantime, one workaround that has helped us as the Patreon for Creators team as we navigate between our own accounts and our Patreon for Creators account, is to set up customized profiles in browsers, and to use different browsers for different accounts, so that we can stay logged in on one account, and toggle to a different browser or browser profile to stay logged in on a different account.
This is good stuff, thank you. Looking forward to seeing more new fans as someone who's been on the platform for almost a decade. Also, one "bug" I've noticed - I send messages to my Patrons all the time, and they never see them.
Niches sound amazing actually for us smaller creators!! I don't always mention the general content of my posts in the long-form posts so I wonder if tags could be utilized for that niche-indexing? Tags work well within a creator's profile, but expanding to the discovery network would allow the "cross-posting" of subjects to overlap a little easier I think! Hopefully that makes sense 🙂 Off to listen to your talk on AI. I am so sick of AI in everysinglething and if it infiltrates Patreon I will be so disappointed.
Yes! All of this!
Been here a month and enjoying the experience as a creator so far. The User Interface is not always intuitive, however, and as many of my members are older types, I do have to do a lot of orientation and explaining via posts, announcements (and I'll make a tutorial video when I have time). Many followed me from Substack to get away from the increasingly noisy Discovery and Recommendation feed. I solved that issue by making a custom link for my Patreon page and posts for my members so now they land on my page versus the Discovery feed. I'm very happy here so far overall - and appreciate this detailed, transparent post.
This is an excellent point. Much of my audience comes from in-person interactions with people of varying technical prowess. I have had many older Spaniards and French people tell me that they got lost right from the join page. Making onboarding and usage as 'explain-it-like-im-5' as possible would be kind of great for those of us introducing people to the internet for the first time, hehe....
For livestreaming updates, may I make the request that - if the stream at my end goes down, Patreon keeps it open and allows me to reconnect? My internet went down mid stream, and by the time I got it back up, I couldn't reconnect to the stream on Patreon. Also, I stream to Patreon via OBS, and, honestly, it's a bit clunky having to update the server and stream key each time. Any possibility of allowing better integrations with third-party streaming software?
Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing this with us. Losing a stream mid-broadcast and then not being able to get back in is a bad experience, and quite frustrating for both you and your members. Our team is constantly working through updates to improve experience with features like this and we’ll be sure to pass this on to them. On the stream key suggestion, persistent keys aren’t on our roadmap at this time. We recently introduced a new a new integration with Streamlabs that connects once, so you do not need to re-enter a key each time your go Live. This may be an option to consider if you’re open to checking it out and switching from OBS, here’s more information: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/46746838150157-How-to-Stream-to-Patreon-with-Streamlabs
Thank you for focusing on actual creator needs and their communities. I appreciate you not going down the road all the other "social media" apps are. That said, I really liked Patreon innitially for it not being a social media app in the first place. It felt like a sanctuary for creators and their hard earned communities. I will continue to be excited about changes that capitalise on this, which it seems like a lot is. So thank you. My concern is I really feel like the new "home page" should show only the creators people are subscribed to. If people feel like seeing new things, they can go to the explore page. Right now, Patreon's home page feels too much like what Instagram and YouTube are doing. To end on a happy note, I really appreciate Patreon protecting creators against AI scraping. AI "art" is theft.
Thank you, genuinely, for this. The "sanctuary" framing is exactly what we're trying to protect, and it's good to hear the AI-scraping protections are resonating too. Today, the Home feed prioritizes media from the creators you're a paid member of, but it isn't limited to just that. If you want to see only paid-membership content, the membership tab lets you filter to just that. Appreciate the feedback on how you’d like to see paid media as a default, and will pass it along to the team.
These are great updates in-the-works! 😃 I dig in particular the idea about Niche communities 😊 /DARK FANTASY Author Birger 💙📚
I'm a game developer still relatively new to Patreon (just started this February.) Patreon has already changed my life so I want to thank you for making that possible! I appreciate the transparency and heads up about work in progress features with a post like this. I believe what would help the platform and creators is visibility into which platforms are resulting in a sale so creators can know where to focus marketing. Creators having the data to focus marketing where it works means more paying Patreon users in the ecosystem you are building.
Has any consideration been given at all to an opt-out feature from the feed structure? I don't mean going to the Memberships tab, which is just another feed. I mean a reversion back to the older Patreon system as a choice for patrons. My patrons, to put it mildly, hate the new system. Perhaps it's a biased sample because I make a sleep podcast for people who are already stressed, but I have lost patrons who do not want yet another social media feed to navigate. Which, let's be blunt, is exactly what this is. I am already imagining the howls I will be dealing with when you ruin the somewhat cleaner desktop version with the app structure. Could there be an option to simply turn it off and use the much simpler framework you already had?
I doubt Patreon will be keeping the old "system" because running two systems at once is probably not ideal for them on the back end. I think the middle ground is letting members choose which feed is their default, and for those who only want to see their creators posts, then they would select "Memberships" as the default.
I love to see what is in your pipeline and your work to support creators and supporters is awesome. Topic-based community spaces is a great idea, but I'm curious how you divide art section. On other platforms I usually see general categories like just "Art" or "Art tutorials", but as a coloring book colorist creating traditional coloring tutorials, I struggle being burried under the pile of painting, drawing and other art related tutorials, but it's not the same. I see on other platforms that my audience interested in coloring isnt interested in what I painted outside the coloring books. The coloring community is very underrated, tho it is not a small niche anymore. And I believe other creators from coloring world are going through the same struggles. Would it be possible to take it into the consideration please? I also want to praise Clips. I think they're really great. I just miss the option to adjust the screen. When I do coloring tutorials, I show used colors on the screen, but I dont want to reveal the whole color palettes to everyone who see the clip. It would be great if we could crop the screen or change it to vertical format instead of landscape, that way we could choose the part of the screen we really want to share. Thank you so much for improving Patreon and for your approach.
Hi Neko, thanks for sharing your feedback, we appreciate the detail and the time you’ve taken to outline what’s resonating and what you’d like to see. For topic-based community spaces on Patreon, the idea isn't that we hand you a fixed set of buckets and you squeeze into whichever one is the closest fit, it's that the community itself gets to shape what it becomes. So if "Art" as a category doesn't represent what a coloring tutorial actually is, and your audience clearly isn't the same audience as general painting or drawing content, we envision that being exactly the kind of thing you'd be able to carve your own space for rather than getting folded into a broader bucket that doesn't fit. And we’re really glad to hear Clips are landing for you. The cropping and vertical format idea makes a lot of sense, especially for something like a color palette you want to show part of without fully giving it away. Appreciate the feedback!
These are all REALLY GREAT features, and I am looking forward to them going live! Especially quote-to-quip and images in comments – as a visual creator, I often want to communicate visually with my fans, including one-on-one in the comments, and this will help a lot! I also really appreciate failed payments demoting the patron to free instead of dropping them altogether. One of my bugbears with Patreon over the years – probably its greatest hitherto unresolved fault, to be honest – is how declined payments would drop a patron without any kind of notice to them or to me. They would think they were still subscribed and that I had just stopped posting; I would think they had decided not to renew their subscription. If they remain free then at least they get my free posts and might be prompted to figure out why they're not getting the paid ones anymore. I really hope this works! I noticed the lock/unlock image feature yesterday when I was lining up a bunch of posts for the coming months, and was quite pleased it had been introduced! It seems only to be working on single-image posts, though; any chance of having it apply to the first image in a carousel? I post a bundle of sketchbook pages once a month and it would be great to show off the first one (always the best) to tempt people in. It'd also be great to have an easy button to share a post to Quips – then creators can decide if they want to share locked posts or not, rather than it being a blanket Patreon thing. Maybe you disagree – you have the birds'-eye view after all. But I'd like an almost-instant way to share locked posts I think might have broader appeal, vs those aimed solely at existing paid members.
P.S. Another option I'd like – not sure if it's a feature so much as just a setting – is being able to set the definition of a month's income. I have had auto-withdrawal set up for the 5th since I started on Patreon 9 years ago, but because income is reported per calendar month, this means my bank deposits don't match up with my stated earnings. I could change my withdrawal to be on the 1st but because the vast majority of pledges still come in between the 1st and 5th, that would mean skipping a whole month of income, which at this point isn't possible. I appreciate this may be more of a me problem than a you problem. It was a thought that occurred because, having just struggled to buy a flat because most of my income was crowdfunding, it would certainly appease the spreadsheet people to have the numbers line up!
As a Tropical Sci-Fi author, I LOVE the idea of niches. I'm glad you guys are committed to experimenting and making this all better. Thanks for going BEYOND social media 🙌 I think the challenge for me right now is that I'm so busy finishing up audiobooks, (and having just finished writing a new novella) that I have less energy to post anything to my Patreon. But that will change. I'm open to ideas. Mostly I just post my process, and my biggest fans seem to enjoy that.
Hi Andrew, congratulations on finishing both the novella and the audiobook work! That's a lot happening at once, no wonder new posts have taken a back seat. What you're already doing, sharing your process, is a great tactic and. good approach to let your members feel connected to you and your work as its development is in progress. And your fans enjoying it is a direct signal that this tactic is working. We have a case study on a miniature-painting creator named Malte Dueholm (watchpaintdry_minis) that backs this up as well. He didn't have time to make new work either, so he started pulling from his existing archive instead of starting from scratch, and found that over a third of his revenue in a recent 30-day stretch came from that recycled material. Sometimes sharing the rougher work gets people curious enough to stick around to see the end result! For you, that might mean pulling something from your archive, a teaser from the novella, or a behind-the-scenes moment from the audiobook sessions, and giving it a second life rather than treating every post as something that has to be made new. Here's the case study if you want to read further: https://www.patreon.com/PatreonforCreators/posts/how-minis-drove-153930351?utm_source=post-search-result
Fantastic example of transparency! Builds such confidence. (also, loved the OpEd) ETA: I’ve never been so inspired by a keynote as I was watching your SXSW presentation. From one creator to another: thank you.
Are site hosted videos now available for all creators now too? I'm an 18+ creator and it looks like I have the option, but I don't want to be breaking any rules.
Hi Dekilah. Thanks for being so thoughtful. Patreon video, natively uploaded video hosted within Patreon, is currently in early access for adult creators, so while not all 18+ creators have access right now, it is rolling out. All media on Patreon, inclusive of Patreon video, must adhere to our Policies, which are outlined in our Community Guidelines: https://www.patreon.com/policy/guidelines .
Giving my members a way to post photos in response to posts in my feed would be a real game changer for my community given we gather to talk about our art form and it would be extra meaningful for them to share their work back to the community.. I look forward to seeing this happen! Thanks for the transparency and the updates!
To add onto this, I hope that a setting is rolled out where creators have the option to turn photos from comments *off* either on a per-post or page-wide basis. Photos in comments can be distracting or unnecessary for particular creator communities.
Before giving real feedback, just wanted to let you know I only got a notification for this post 6 minutes ago, but the post says it was made 3 days ago 😭 Not sure if the notif delay is intentional so everyone doesn't jump onto the app at the same time, but I just wanted to let you know in case it's a glitch. I really would prefer to be notified right when things are posted. 😢
Hi Jester, thanks for your note, we appreciate your enthusiasm in our community, especially as an active member of our Patreon for Creators page. To get notifications of Jack’s posts when he publishes them, be sure to sign up to his page as a free member with notifications settings toggled to your preferences. You received a notification today as a member of Patreon for Creators, as we were just added as a collaborator to his post, which then notifies members of Patreon for Creators. If you are a member of Jack’s page, you’d only receive one notification at the time he published the post, regardless of when Patreon for Creators was added as a collaborator.
This is a nice list the customizable profiles and the potential for niche pages sound really good for growing an audience
Jack, hats off to you, I did appreciate the email/update and the length, while I am very busy, was welcome. I think your careful and thoughtful diving into everything is helpful and does build trust in your brand in your leadership. Good job. I joined Patreon in Dec 2014, just a year or so after it had been launched. I didn't do much for the first few years because I didn't have much of a following and Patreon, at the time, didn't have any features to grow one's fan base through discoverability. But I relaunched my page in 2018 once I had more of a following and it's been a slooow but steady growth since then. Patreon now provides vital monthly income feeding me and my four kids. I am very, very grateful this platform exists. I absolutely LOATHE social media and what it has done to my own brain and society in general, but I can't deny the power of it, or the fact that it's my primary income driver. The hugeness and ease of connection on social media creates community over long distance like no other thing ever invented. Sure it's toxic and harmful at times, but there's a valid reason why it's so big and so widely used. But I'm very very grateful to Jack and your whole team for envisioning Patreon as a place focused on health and goodness for creators and fans, not a place to monetize. I think a key thing is going to be resisting the urge to allow paid advertisements into Patreon. Currently I'm being harassed by companies asking me to allow their paid ads into my newsletters to my email subscribers and its very frustrating because I legitimately need the money to feed my family, but I cannot sell my soul to all these products, not because they're all bad, but because my NL is a place for celebrating my fans and the creativity I've promised them, not a place to extract more and more from them. That's what ads has done to social media. It has made it a place of extraction instead of a place of healing and goodness. I hope Patreon can stay ad-free and build a model that will support the company and keep it healthy WITHOUT giving into the temptation of increasing revenue by allowing paid ads. Keep at it, I'm very encouraged to see where and how Patreon has grown over the 12 years I've been on here. You're a company I'm comfortable being loyal to, even if there are other subscriber platform options out there. Please make plans well in advance for handing off of the leadership, though. Obviously this is something that hopefully won't happen any time soon, but I've seen far too many beloved companies crash and burn after leadership changes and the new person who comes on doesn't share the same values or vision that steered the company for years before. I'll be praying for you and your employees Jack. I think you're doing good work.
Hi Lydia, thanks for sharing. Stories like yours get shared around internally at Patreon because they embody exactly the kind of outcomes we're building toward. You've spent 12 years with us, supported your family, and built a community that thrives through connection. Thank you for sharing it with us and thank you for being part of our creator community for over a decade! Patreon exists so creators and their members can build something real together, and similarly to you, we're not interested in trading connection for extraction. What can be said honestly is that creator-first isn't a phrase Jack repeats, it's part of the values that guide the culture and teams here and deeply embedded into the foundation of the company. Our page, Patreon for Creators, is also made with this mindset, to help inspire, educate and enable the wide breath of creators we have on Patreon, and help them along in their unique journeys. We’re glad our creator-first emphasis is felt by you in your experience, and we'll keep living by those values in our day-to-day.
I don't think I'm the only one who appreciates the fact that Patreon isn't "a closed type of company that only puts out new products and has absolutely one-way communication," but that it's precisely through things like this that it shows that it "has a soul." And when something has a soul, people easily fall in love with it. There are a lot of good announcements written here, a lot of topics for thought. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and from us "little creators."
Jack & the team - Very much appreciate the focus on smaller creators. So many people here came in with big established audiences, so it’s hard to stand out in that sea. Lots of great stuff in the hopper, Thank You! Sarah
This is all great but all these features should be available to nsfw creators. Every platform requires the user to opt in to seeing mature content, why should it be any different here? You’re more than happy to make money off of us but don’t give us the same tools as everyone else.
Patreon has to navigate the nuances of payment processors that don't like NSFW content. If you're looking for someone to blame, it's them and not Patreon.
I have added this comment before as far as requests but here it is one more time. It would be fantastic to have improved video capabilities when we are live, either a pinch-to-zoom feature or the ability to bring something close to the lens and have it show accurately under magnification. Right now we are fixed to one lens with a maximum of a 9-inch focal length. It is impossible to show anything in great detail up close and for me this has been a bit of a deal breaker . Alternative apps will not work for me. They require a webcam in addition to the phone and a multi-device setup and typically another person to help with comments, etc. For me personally live streams need to be self-contained on the iPhone and I need to be able to show items under magnification with good focus. That is my request. Thank you for listening
Love this "Best" platform. Very brain-friendly.
Amazing post, keep posting more insights like this one. Can't wait for 18+ Patreon video and Quips. Thanks!
First of all, thank you for the transparency and continued updates. I'm most interested in seeing where "niches" will go. Who gets to define a niche? Is content only scanned for categorization or can we manually categorize our posts? This relates tangentially to a feature request I've had for some time: I'm a diverse creator with interests in TTRPG's, music production, and software engineering. I think it would be useful if I could create buckets members opt into which kind of posts / notifications they get. So, someone following for my technical posts don't get annoyed when I post a campaign summary they don't care about and unfollow. Could be as simple as selecting which Collections you want notifications of new posts from, or this could possibly tie in to the niches feature.
Hi there. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We’re still building out Niches and updates to the Home feed to help creators and fans, with diverse interests and creation genres, find and discover the communities and topics that excite them most. We’re in process of doing research directly with fans and creators to understand how we can make Patreon enjoyable and productive for the people that really value creativity. In the meantime, Niches may be a good way for you to connect and share your work with the various interest-based communities you are part of such as highlighting your TTRPG work in a table top Niche, distinct from diving into software engineering and code work that you may share in a developer Niche. As Niches role out, we hope that that helps dimensional creators like you connect with fans and interest-based communities across Patreon.
Very exciting! Thanks for the update ✨
Keeping my fingers crossed for the ability to upload 18+ video content soon 🤞💜
Oh and it would be cool to be able to embed a post preview into an external website. I have a section of my website with all my socials. It would be cool if there was something I could post, other than the image, over there. Another way to bring ppl to the platform.
Lots of good updates. My favorite - it will be easier to get to the right comment from notifications. Oh boy that is one headache from Patreon that will be removed and I am so happy! So many good suggestions in these comments. Excited to see the future of Patreon!
Maybe I missed it, but could we get Collections based on Tags? Like, if I want a collection for new inventory updates, I could do something like #newinventory on a post and it go into the right collection automatically
You didn't miss anything, that specific setup (tag a post and have it drop into a matching collection automatically) isn't something we have yet. It's an interesting idea! Here's how to get close to that today, in two separate steps. Building the collection: create it, then when you're adding posts, use the Filter option and search by the tag you're already using, like #newinventory. That surfaces everything carrying that tag so you can select it all and add it to the collection at once instead of one by one. Details here: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/16666733679757-How-to-use-Collections-to-organize-your-work Keeping tags current: once you've got a batch of posts you want to tag the same way, the Library's bulk edit tool lets you add or delete tags across multiple posts in one pass (desktop only). That's a separate step from the collection itself though, tagging a post doesn't pull it into the collection automatically per your suggestion. Today, you'd still go back to the collection's Add posts screen and filter by that tag to bring newly tagged posts in. Here's the details: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/29146809263501-Bulk-editing-posts This keeps the manual part down to two short trips instead of a post-by-post update. Thanks for the suggestion!
As a small creator I am very happy that I will be noticed here more than other platforms. Thankyou Patreon team
I wonder what happened to my account after it was blocked and then recovered. Since then, nobody seems to be following me anymore. It feels like Patreon’s automatic promotion system is no longer working for my account. I used to get around 5 paid Patreon subscribers a day, but now I don’t even get that in a week. Could this be because of an AI algorithm, or did my account get some kind of lower ranking after being blocked and unblocked? Maybe my content is no longer being shown organically, so nobody is seeing it anymore?
Can you please let me embed links to YouTube and other media in my written posts. The UX for writers and their readers here leave a lot to be desired.
YES PLEASEEE!!! Thank you for suggesting this
Can we please have some barrier to entry for free members, a question they have to answer before joining or mandatory first and last name - the free tier has opened the floodgates to bullies and trolls , while dropping our paid memberships - I’m on Patreon because its NOT Facebook - if we make it like Facebook - we’ve lost the plot
Love the question they have to answer idea. I’d like to see this as optional - something the creator can turn on/off/edit themselves
Thank you for working so hard on this! Love this list, thank you
I understand the reasoning behind the recent creator/fan account merge but I’m personally still finding it really difficult from a UX POV and it introduces a lot of friction and room for human error on my part. The mobile app feels quite different from web browser, and in both I struggle to know where the “find/post/edit my stuff” things are without getting interrupted by the rest of the site. Case in point, I’m currently writing notes for a book review as I read, and after saving the notes to draft on mobile I can’t find them again unless I go on desktop. A lot of these smaller issues are downstream of trying to cram both sides of Patreon into the same UI/UX. So, although I appreciate your reasons for the merge, and I understand it would be expensive to develop a separate app for each use case, I really hope we get a separation at the level of apps and sites eventually (similar to how YouTube have a main player app and YouTube Studio). I love this platform and I understand and support the drive to blur the line between creator and fan, but it’s really messing me up and has been for weeks now. I suspect this impact is more pronounced for smaller creators who do not have other people doing their day to day management and developing muscle memory around the quirks of the new merged system.
Hi there. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and outlining your needs here, we appreciate your feedback. We’ll continue to invest in making Patreon’s user experience (UX) more user friendly, and improve usability across Patreon on web and within our mobile apps. In the mean time, we have an article in our Help Center designed to help support navigation of the Patreon app, we’ll share the link below in case this resource can help provide some clarity for navigation today: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/19500560370189-Navigate-the-Patreon-app-as-a-creator And in web, bookmarking your Library tab could be helpful for accessing your post drafts, and searching editing your published posts. You can access this by clicking the Creator Studio icon and selecting Library, or by using this direct link: https://www.patreon.com/library Once again, thank you for this feedback, we really appreciate it and will pass this on to our team.
Please, I don't want more social features. 😭 I don't want anything new. I want what is here to work!! I want mobile functionality fixed so I can stop turning my phone sideways or having to switch to "desktop mode" because reply buttons are hidden or off screen. I want the payment system sorted so members can switch payment details easily. (I've got exit surveys showing people left specifically because of struggle with the payment system and not being able to see paywalled content they have paid for.) I want to be able to react to chat comments on my phone - yes, that's broken too. I want group chats to appear reliably when I click to tab, rather than having to click the "all" tab and click back which works...sometimes. I'm fed up with having to go boot my pc to do basic tasks I should be able to do on my phone. And if I'm making a full bucket list here, I'd like to be able to upload harmless "here's an update" videos despite writing the occasional spicy scene in a fictional story which landed me in the 18+ cell. I don't want to leave. I really, really don't. It would mean more admin work for me as well as probably losing a percentage of subs when I do, but I'm actively seeking other options purely because the stress of fighting with basic functionality on a day to day basis is far greater than it should be.
The 18+ thing happened to me too. What if posts instead of creators’ pages had a checkbox - this content is suitable for fans 18+?
Love all the ideas you listed! I hope most will become available to all creators including 18+ too! The video preview is going to be a nice feature. I think also giving creators access to customize their home page design is fantastic! I hope you are also getting rid of that horrible gradient color blur so many people hated that feature, customize the color and blur amount or at least a toggle to turn it on or off. Also the new feature for fans to customize their profiles will be nice too! I always wonder who my newest fans and Patrons are so giving them a fun way to personalize their profiles will be cool while keeping their anonymity and respecting their privacy if they so choose! Lastly thanks for creating such a wonderful platform for all artists and fans to network, create and discover each other all over the world! I’ve been able to share my Muse art with fans from countries including South America, Isreal, several European countries including Germany and the Middle East! Truly amazing and is the best part of the www and Patreon! 🛜 💗
Hi there. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. You will be happy to know that the updates coming to creator pages include removing the color gradient blur. If you take a look at the picture embedded in Jack’s post showing the creator page for Digital Spaghetti, you can see there is no blur! This update will be rolling out soon for all creators.
I like the ideas you had for smaller creators, I’ll see if anything changes for me over the next two months and check back.
Niches could be big. Looking forward to that.
Thank you for having an amazing platform, not being by afraid to grow, and also still keeping it people-centered (and that includes creators and fans!) Not to gush, but I can’t thank you and the team enough for building Patreon. I can interact with creators I love and not feel like I’m voluntarily attaching myself to the Life-sucking torture machine from Princess Bride. Plus I don’t have to sift through the swamps of social media in order to find posts from the creators I follow! I love these posts with details about future endeavors and I encourage a continuation. We completely understand that nothing happens overnight, and it’s exciting to get to see what’s being worked on and the why’s behind the ideas. Great list! Looking forward to future updates.
All great stuff, and I am grateful to be able to consider what's coming before it arrives. I wasn’t sure about Quips and the Discovery feed at first, as it smacked of “social media” and I've been here since 2014 and have always appreciated the simplicity--but so far it looks like the best parts of what IG used to be. And I’ve found new creators I love through it, too! I have an insights request from the creator perspective. It would be great to have some way to visually overlay actions we as creators take (post, quip, comment on other people’s stuff, etc) with bumps in traffic/visits/engagement/member signups. I appreciate being able to see all of these things and their numbers/graphs individually, but what I would really love is something that directly connects my actions to the results. For example, I can see I got a big bump in impressions/seen in mid-July, but it’s not clear to me exactly which of my mid-July actions drove that bump. Over time it could show which actions have the most impact for increasing reach/engagement, which could be helpful in knowing what kinds of actions to prioritize for growth. I hope this makes sense. If this exists in some way already, please feel free to direct me to it! Thanks again for making this an internet space that still feels good to be a part of. <3
Hi Virginia, thank you for sharing. We’re so glad to hear that you’ve been finding new creators to love and getting a feel for these new features. We hear you on insights, this is great feedback and we appreciate you taking the time to outline what you need and why. Our team is working on updates to Insights and how best to surface best practices that are specific to the actions you’ve already taken to help illuminate what can have the most impact for you. We’re early in this work, so we hope to have more to share soon. In the meantime, we have a case study on Patreon for Creators from creator Micha.Stocks that may be helpful to check out. We look at his approach to analyzing his community insights, to help inspire where he should invest his time and update his own strategy to grow his community. You can check it out here and we hope this provides some inspiration in the mean time: https://www.patreon.com/PatreonforCreators/posts/dont-guess-your-155145154
This is really nice. I'm so glad to see the ideas, the experiment, the launch and the update. One of the things I've seen throughout my college studies for media communication is the businesses don't listen to what their customers want. Not to say you should give them every little thing as you need to be sustainable to stay alive, but things that work for both. Seeing how (especially the gaming industry) has people so excited for a new game, puts everything in that people want, they beta test it ans when it launches it's too big to maintain. Know that things will take time. Now coding games and a platform such as this are different you have a similar concept. You hear feedback, you test, you push out, you hear feedback and continue on. Making small changes and testing those small changes will allow creator to see the full impact. As a small creator, I'm a ton of growth, but know it will take time. The knowledge of communication helps as I know networking with other creators is an absolute need! But I'm also reccomending the platform to those I feel would benefit. Thank for sharing these updates. I appreciate it and am happy to see the progress. (also I'm definitely going to check out rhe book. That sounds exciting) 😁
All fantastic updates! Additional feature request: a TV App! Top devices for YouTube are phone and TV in a close second, so getting a proper TV experience for Patreon video would be a game changer 🔥 Proud to be here on Patreon!
I have heard a ton of other creators asking for a tv app, too. a lot of people are also now starting to watch youtube on their TVs. thank you for the thoughts!
Yes! Love the transparency type of approach and all the details! 💛 Can't wait for the new home timeline on desktop! Would it ever be possible to setup proper art commissions through the Patreon Shop? Mainly the ability to buy the same shop item multiple times for repeat customers, and not being forced to post new shop item on the timeline?
oh man we have thought about commissions for a long time and had a lot of visual artists especially looking for it. can you tell me how you'd use it? like, would you offer a custom piece of art? would you want the buyer to be able to describe what they want? upload a photo or something? would be curious to hear how you'd use it.
I write web novels on Royal Road (RR). Authors tend to share advanced chapters not available on RR on Patreon. We funnel all our paying readers to Patreon. When a new author asks in the RR author Discord servers I'm in what tiers they should set, the advice is always the same: A $10 tier with say 10 advanced chapters. A $15-20 vanity tier copying the $10 tier for patrons who want to give more. Don't add anything else, it's unmanageable. This is easy to manage on Patreon, anything else is a royal pain in the ass due to the lack of an obvious feature: multi-scheduling. What many of us would like to offer are multiple tiers. A simple example: A free tier with 1 advanced chapter. A $5 tier with 5 advanced chapters. A $10 tier with 10 advanced chapters. You'd think that would be simple, but it isn't. To achieve this a creator has to do the following for every chapter they share. I'll start at chapter 50 so I can show how complex this is. 1. Schedule chapter 50 on the $10 tier. 2. Manually track all chapters shared. There is no automation for the rest of this. 3. When chapter 50 posts, edit chapter 45 (currently only in the $10 tier). Remove the $10 tier. Add the $5 tier. Check notifications are on. Update immediately. Edit chapter 45 again! Add the $10 tier (so it is in the $10 and the $5 tier). Edit the notifications so no email etc. is sent again. Update immediately. Edit chapter 40 (currently in the $10 and the $5 tier due to the manual edit days/weeks earlier). Remove the $10 and the $5 tier. Add the free tier. Check notifications are on. Update immediately. Edit chapter 40 again! Add the $10/$5 tier back in (so it is in the $10, $5, and free tier). Edit the notifications so no email etc. is sent. Update immediately. Repeat with chapter 51, 46, and 41, when chapter 51 goes live. Go down a pint glass of whiskey due to how easy it would be to mess up. I've uploaded around 600 chapters to Patreon. That would've meant editing posts 1,200 extra times over around 13 months!!!!! As far as I'm aware that's the only way to add the same content (without scheduling it separately twice: I've seen authors who do this and that splits the community interactions). When I first signed up to Patreon I was shocked the above was the only way to schedule something more than once. This is such an obvious benefit to creators, why can't we have multi-scheduling? With this we could funnel more readers through the free > $5 > $10 tier without it being an epic undertaking.
Thank you for outlining all of this detail. Question -- are you posting chapters individually, or are you posting the entire novel as a single post? I'm asking because it seems like there should be a work around for the workflow you're talking about. Would you be up with meeting someone from our team so we could learn more about the problem?
Excited for discovery to get better for small creators 😁 A specific feature I'd love to see is a "pay what you want" option for posts. Quite a few years ago, I released a free game on itch.io (with optional payment enabled) and was pleasantly surprised to see people deciding to buy it 😊 I like the idea of stuff being accessible to everyone while still being able to earn from it. It'd also be nice if the minimum price for paid posts could be lowered, even if it means that most of it goes to processing fees 😌
That one could only work if the analytics surrounding it are kept very dull (absolutely no detailed analytics of overage vs count distribution).
I would love more music forward tools. Like a universal playlist when audio. Or video is implemented, and perhaps a playlisting feature. So I can listen to audio and video content from the different people I follow in a playlist
as a musician myself, this resonates. we haven't built a ton of music specific tools, but i agree, i want a lot of those things, too!
I absolutely love the idea of niches, and I don't want this to sound like a criticism, because I think it's a great idea that should move forward. However, I also think a potential drawback that some creators (and some fans) might run into which I didn't see mentioned is that _some content is hard to fit into a niche_. I'm not sure how to best make it fair and useful for creators who either don't know what niche they would benefit from joining, or who don't really fit any of the available niches. The "un-niched" creators might benefit from an entirely separate discovery feature (maybe it's one that helps crowdsource niche membership?) I'd love to hear more detail about how this feature will be implemented so that its best potential benefits can shine, without it accidentally turning into a barrier to entry for creators who haven't or don't settle into a niche.
thanks, jack! we debated the word "niches" for this very reason, but think of it less like a constraint around what you can't post, and more like a smaller, more intimate place where you can build a community with other creators and fans who like being together. I bet that a lot of "niches" that end up forming are less about posting a particular type of thing, and more about finding a group of people who love being together!
Thanks for the heads up and transparency, Jack and team. This all seems to be going in the right direction. One suggestion from a 10+ years patron. It can indeed be really hard for an artist to find patrons, even if said artist has a large following of fans on social media. There is something about committing a monthly donation (even small) that makes most people stop right there. On the other hand, as StageIt has proven during the COVID years, spontaneous tips during a livestream can be triggered much more easily and really help artists (and make fans feel good). A tipping system well integrated with Patreon’s livestreams AND posts, combined with the improved public/free features you spoke of, could become a really important mechanism for artists, patrons and non-patron fans alike.
This is a great idea, Jerome, and something we really need to consider! I remember when my band, Pomplamoose, was doing livestreams regularly, and had solid earnings from tips. It can be a real income stream for creators who live stream!
As a newer creator, I am so pleased that you are going to focus on helping those of us still needing to grow to more sustainable levels, by making the discovery journey easier to navigate! Keep up the great work Jack & team!
Thanks for what you do. I JUST posted a quip saying that I liked the direction Patreon was heading and I saw your email. We feel much closer to our community than we used to.
YESSSS! That is the best feedback ever. Literally, our goal is to create deep, long term relationships with creators and their communities, so this is great to hear!
Wow that’s a lot, thank you! Can you also add the feature to delete direct messages (on my own side only and not for both the other party and I.) I would like to be able to clean up my inbox once in a while if possible. 😃
Upvoting this!
Definitely appreciate the heads up Jack. (as in the more detail the better) When you don't announce everything, some changes are pleasant little surprises and others are... not that. So again, I appreciate being notified of ALL the changes.
I really appreciate seeing the smaller-creator problem acknowledged here, especially the point about the current recommendation system favoring larger creators. As a smaller creator, that system can actually feel like it works against me. I bring new members onto Patreon through my audience elsewhere, but then Patreon’s discovery tools seem much better at introducing those members to larger creators than they are at introducing my work to anyone new. My Quips, for example, receive almost no discovery outside of the audience I already brought with me but sure does love serving up the people I brought over to larger creators with larger followings. 🧐 That creates a frustrating dynamic where smaller creators can start to feel like feeders into the discovery system for creators who already have significantly larger audiences. We’re doing the work of bringing people onto Patreon, but not necessarily benefiting from the network effect we’re helping create. The shift from comparing creator-to-creator to post-to-post sounds genuinely promising for exactly this reason. I’d love to know whether you’ll be measuring not only how many new memberships discovery generates overall, but how equitably that discovery is being distributed across creator sizes. I think that distinction will matter enormously for whether this actually works for smaller creators.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, we really appreciate you taking the time to describe your situation and the impact you’re feeling. Patreon’s algorithm does not explicitly favor large creators over smaller creators, but we have observed this as an unintended outcome and are working to directly address it. For example, every time a creator posts a Quip, their members are notified via push notification (if they use Patreon’s mobile apps and have notifications enabled). This means, creators who have already established a membership base, or have a lot of members, can instantly get more engagement on their Quips because more people are immediately notified of their publication. Whereas a creator just starting out or with a smaller membership base, does not have the built-in audience to immediately engage with their work, thus the impact of posting a Quip feels differently for them right away than it does for a creator who has a larger number of members immediately engaging with their work. As the team continue to work on the features Jack outlined here, and specifically, considers improvements for Discovery on Patreon, we’re considering how to balance this so that all creators, regardless of their membership size and monthly earnings, can benefit and enjoy these features, while also improving how fans discover new creators and new communities to be part of. That definitely includes looking at how new memberships are distributed across creator sizes.
Hi Jack! Chris Tyler here, Mr. Chris on Patreon. I know this is probably a complete long shot, but I wanted to reach out musician to musician because I feel like you might understand why this matters so much to us. My wife Jenny and I are Patreon creators, and our membership is built for dance teachers. A huge part of what we offer is music they can use in their classes, so our members are constantly going through our albums finding songs they love and want to save for later. The one thing they keep wanting to do is create their own playlist right inside Patreon. And they can’t. We actually wrote into the Patreon team a few months ago about this, and I know feature requests are probably coming from every direction imaginable, but I just keep thinking… man, if this ever somehow made its way to the people who work on this stuff, it could be such a big deal for musician creators. Right now we’ve literally created a playlist workaround for our members. We tell them to open an Apple Note, type the song title, paste the Patreon link underneath it, then keep building their playlist that way. It works, but obviously it would be SO much better if a member could just hit something like Add to Playlist inside Patreon and build their own collection of songs right there. Even being able to create a playlist on our creator page that members could use would be amazing. We totally understand Patreon isn’t trying to become Spotify or Apple Music. We actually love that Patreon is its own thing. But because you’re a musician too, I figured you might immediately understand the weird little dilemma here. When someone is using Patreon primarily to access a musician’s albums, being able to organize the music they love starts to feel really important. So this is me very humbly throwing it into the universe again. 😂 Please please please maybe someday… Patreon playlists for music creators and their members. We’d absolutely love it, and our dance teachers definitely would too. Thanks for everything you’ve built, Jack. Chris Tyler Mr. Chris
Chris! Thank you for this very thoughtful note and request. Sounds like you have an awesome community. Question for you -- have you tried the collections feature? That will allow you to create a grouping of posts. Is that not quite what you're looking for? Are you wanting the songs to play back to back once each is finished? Can you tell me a bit more about what you would want playlists to do? (there's another creator in this comments section that asked for playlists, too, so i'm especially curious to hear what you're looking for).
Can’t wait for Quips to roll out for 18+ creators :)
already started! on the way!
Yes, and thank you! Loving the extreme transparency. It’s nice to know what developments we can look forward to. Also, is there actually a way for clips to be possible for those using DMR? The app says clips won’t work for me “yet”, which suggests it could happen… but I’d love to know if my hope is in vain, here?
Thanks for the kind words, we’re excited for what's to come and can’t wait to see how you use these new features! At this time, DRM is not built into the Clips feature. If you’re open to sharing more, we’d love to hear how you’d use these two features together, what you’re looking for, how it will help you, what your needs are, and any other details you have about this, and we’ll be sure to share with our team. We’re constantly building new features and functionality, so do be sure to stay tuned to Patreon for Creators as we regularly share more info on product and feature updates as they become available.
Thanks, Jack! Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make everyone's profile picture dynamic so that we can click on a patron's profile picture and DM them or see their stats with us (whether they've been a patron for 1 minute or 10 years)? Years of seeing a comment, then having to navigate elsewhere to manually look up that student is really wearing on me.
Hi Matt, thanks for this suggestion. We understand that it can be cumbersome, and disruptive to your workflow to chase down your members’ information, and this is the kind of thing we’re hoping fan profiles will help address. We’re building this right now and feedback like yours is helpful!
Niches work great for creators, especially in terms of finding your peers. Us Educational creators on YouTube had a hard time understanding what was going on with our channels, especially given the more generic advice from YouTube (better geared towards entertainment creators). We found each other gradually, at places like vidcon, meeting in the hallways, exchanging quick gasps of discoveries with each other.
Yes, EXACTLY. There’s magic to meeting creative peers in the hallway, but it should be easier, intentional and not-location dependent. We hope you and other video educators can find this magic on Patreon when Niches roll out!
I so appreciate this extra transparency about the feature roadmap because it helps me strategically plan and dream up new ways to participate here creatively long-term. Excellent. Also, will be so pleased to contribute to an astrology niche! So needed in the wider landscape of our industry.
ooooooh i bet that would be a banger niche!
It's cool you are adding new features, but how about putting some effort into making sure that basic functionality works, first? I have been unable to pay, or access posts from, over a dozen of the creators that I am subscribed to since February - that is now over 6 months. Patreon support is aware of the problem: see request 3989684 "Patreon] Re: Posts are "locked" even though I have an active membership at the right level". Support admits that it is Patreon's problem, they repeatedly assure me that engineering is "looking at it" or "reviewing it", but month after month there is no progress. I am forced to assume that nobody is really spending any effort on this (and I wonder whether your support people are anything more that AI chatbots: programmed to send reassuring responses while sending the problem reports to the bit bucket).
To add to this: if you really are working on "Getting more fans on Patreon" then you should start by making damn sure that the basic features work; that fans can subscribe to creators and see their posts, and that they don't go 6 months locked out of subscriptions to creators that they are trying to support. You won't even keep the fans you already have until you can provide that level of service. I (try to) support a LOT of creators but I'm at the point with this problem that I'm reluctant to subscribe to more, and I'm beginning to recommend to artists and other fans that they do not join Patreon, because it's not a reliable service.
Excited about the new discovery network!
I'm curious if it is or will be possible for small creators to find their fans and members within the Patreon universe. I'm the perfect example and test subject. I have 0 members, 0 likes on my posts here, probably close to 0 reach, and I haven't shared my Patreon anywhere. What would you suggest I do right now to find 'my people' here? And after you roll out the changes? And when is that? I appreciate your work! Patreon forever.
Welcome to Patreon! The best way to find “your people” is two things: get involved and join other Patreon pages similar to your content! Comment and like their posts. Second share and more importantly promote your content creation outside of Patreon to bring them to your page and join / support you! It’s like all things in life you get out of it what you put into it! Good luck and I hope you will succeed here! 👍
I’m in
oooh! i'm excited!!! thank you for the update and for the sparkly feeling of being a part of something that is trying to do better
Genuinely excited by so much of this. 🤙🏽💜 Thank you so much for hearing us and for the efforts to keep this space and culture safe, friendly, and thriving. I def appreciate the efforts for smaller creators. The word “Niches” made me flinch a little. As someone who doesn’t create in one lane that has made things difficult on the other platforms as far as growth. But I also recognize that Patreon is its own platform, so I’m trusting that Niche here doesn’t mean the same thing as it does ‘over there’. I actually had a new feedback or feature request come to mind last night. I was actually attempting to watch my own work last night, but my videos didn’t auto-play in order—despite the videos being in a specific Collection. This would be a great feature. An option to organize a Collection to function like a playlist. I have and intend to create more mini-series, so it would be conducive for viewers to be able to watch beginning to end just like on a streaming platform. That would be stellar. Thanks again for this update, the transparency, and all the hard work to make this place better and better. 🤜🏽🤛🏽
We’re glad to hear your excitement, and appreciate your candid reaction to the word “Niche”. We see Niches on Patreon being a place where communities can steer their space on Patreon to customize it to feel at home, deciding what shape to mold the community into and what expectations, or guidelines, they have for the community. So for example, if there’s a Niche on Patreon for a specific community you’re part of, but you don’t feel it quite represents the subculture you want to focus on, we envision you being able to create your own Niche community to best fit your specific community needs. Thanks for sharing more about how you’d like to use Collections. Right now, you can customize the order of posts in a collection today, and have it create a guided playlist, but we hear you on the desire of having these videos autoplay. There’s actually a comment earlier here discussing the same thing, so we appreciate having multiple perspectives on how this can be useful for creators!
Sorry Jack, don't feel like reading the whole thing out. When all these features will be implemented, or are they already? And some on Android some not like clips? Also would like to know when Discovery is gonna fully land on Web.
Hi Valery. We encourage you to take a moment to read Jack’s full post at your leisure, it is quite lengthy but there’s tons of good stuff in it! We don’t have exact timelines for everything mentioned in the post, as Jack clarifies, some of the features he’s outlining are in development and testing, and not everything may make the cut as a final release. We’re happy to share that we are working on expanding Discovery on web and anticipate it landing in the next few weeks. As new features do become available, we’ll continue to update creators regularly in our posts on Patreon for Creators (and in our Product Updates collection), so do be sure to stay tuned!
This looks awesome! I'm really enjoying finding out about things as early as possible. A few features I keep finding myself reaching for and not finding are: 1) being able to tag other creators (and maybe even fans) in comments 2) hashtags! This is how I used to find a lot of smaller accounts to follow on Twitter and Tumblr, because they'd be posting in a hashtag. Maybe this is similar to the interest-based groups, but I think it can be valuable to have them for post-level discovery not just account-level
Upvoting both of these feature requests that have come to be very natural behavior for me on other platforms
This is all fantastic! Particularly excited about Niches, and customisable profiles!
Great update and very inspiring. I love everything you're saying about the need for change and the transparency you share with. From the sidelines, I appreciate what you've all created and continue to grow, and hope that I might find my value and purpose for sharing here; I would love to be a part of it—simply for the purpose of ushering change and pumping human-made good into the world. 💛
This is really cool!!! Definitely think these features would be great, looking forward to more about them and how we can use them. I want to ask because I've definitely submitted it as feedback and never heard back, are there any plans to introduce post templates? Not just the "duplicate from draft" trick but TRUE templates? These would be awesome for creators who post a recap of project progress each month or even webcomic creators who post updates on the regular and need to have a consistent format for readers.
thank you! glad you're digging the roadmap. regarding leaving a feature request -- we do get a lot of requests (significantly more than we are able to build), so my apologies that we have not gotten to it. but I know our team is hearing similar requests from other creators about templates -- that's why we built the duplicate from draft feature. curious -- what about that isn't quite working for you? does it just take a ton of time to make a post in the same format over and over? and is duplicate from draft not solving that? would love to hear any more detail you're willing to share!
I love that your hotel looks like the kind I have to stay in as a creator....that carpet is Rocking! ❤️ 😃
As creators we can find inspiration and beauty everywhere…. even in hotel carpeting!
I am liking this slow shift to what social media used to feel like. Keep growing and when the time is right, release a YouTube competitor that supports creators. ;) Let’s make something good for people for a change.
THANK YOU! I'm trying to be very careful to NOT call this social media, because I feel like social media has really turned into something awful. And I don't want to copy it. But I remember what Instagram used to feel like before Facebook took it over. And I think if had continued to evolve in an independent direction, instead of under FB, it could have become something magical. My hope for Patreon's network is that it feels like the internet is fun again. Instead of feeling like our brains are being sucked out of our eyeballs. I really think there's a better way that art and media and community can be on the web. THANK YOU for the nice thoughts!
Time-delayed free content should get a bump on creator profiles "recently free" or something along the like. (I've submitted this as a feature request).
Ahh cool idea. to make sure i understand -- you're saying, essentially, you make paid posts, and then after a while, you make them free, and when you make them free, you'd like them to auto-populate at the top of your creator page? Essentially you're looking for a way to automate adding posts that were recently converted to free to a module on your creator page? Is that what you're trying to achieve?
Thanks so much for the insight and transparency. Is there any way to expand the playlists feature for video creators? Right now, Collections is a catch-all, and it would be great to be able to create Playlists within Collections as well.
Great idea
I would love to see a better shop experience. So many people are fed up with Etsy and how much drop shipping and AI stuff is there. Having a hub for real creators to connect with their buyers would be so fantastic. The patron shop feels much more like 'buy access to this post' rather than 'purchase this digital item' and it's not working for my audience. Is love to see it revamped.
thank you -- makes total sense. i've heard similar things about etsy from other creators, too. can you give me a sense of what specific features you'd like to see from us for selling digital goods?
Great list, love it. But please also consider adding HTML5 playables -- I think with "the new tools" making game development more accessible to a wider audience, we are on the edge of a new "Flash game" era related to web playable games produced with coding agent assistance. Would be awesome to host them here instead of only on a personal webpage and itch. Just an extra idea for feature mountain; maybe for 2027 :) Cheers, and good luck to the team on all the new stuff!
Love this, thank you! If there are any other features that would be especially useful for game devs, I'd love to hear more of your thoughts. For example, what functionality specifically you need, why you need it, how it will help you, your fans, and other game devs, and any other info to help our product team understand what you’re looking do on Patreon! https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413425955213-Submit-a-feature-request-or-feedback
