Make a newsletter about anything (yes, even soup)
Newsletters have always been one of the most direct ways to turn your passions into a community, whether that’s through words, behind-the-scenes videos, rough sketches, or podcast clips. And on Patreon, they’re easier than ever to create.
Creators have been publishing newsletters on Patreon for a while, but our latest updates make it even simpler to draft and customize them. With new support for more media types, custom buttons, and email insights, you can turn any idea — including musings about your love of soup — into a newsletter and share it directly with your fans.
The best part? A Patreon newsletter builds on what you’re already creating, like courses, merch, livestreams, and community chats. It’s an extension of your hard work that helps grow your audience and the value of your memberships.
It’s easy to go beyond inboxes
Send your posts straight to fans’ inboxes with our easy, code-free editor. One version lands directly in their email from you, while the other lives on your Patreon page, ready for fans to revisit and share anytime.
Do more with video and audio: Beyond header videos, audio, and images, you can now include multiple video and audio clips within a single post or email. Fans can open your update in their inbox and click through to your page to watch, listen, comment, and chat. You get the direct reach of email plus Patreon’s multimedia and community features.
Chelsea Devantez moved her Glamorous Trash newsletter to Patreon and ended each issue with a prompt that sparked richer conversations in her comments, turning what used to be a one-way format into a community discussion.
Insert custom CTA buttons: Email is built for taking action. Now you can add call-to-action buttons that drive fans where you want them to go, whether it’s checking out your shop, buying tickets, or listening to a previous episode.
Convert free members with flexible previews
Newsletters are also a great way to show free members what they’re missing. With flexible previews, you can share teasers with free members while keeping the full issue for paying fans. It’s a low-pressure way to nudge folks toward upgrading, while keeping the best perks for your paid members.
Measure what matters with updated insights
Whether you’re testing new formats, switching up your call-to-action, or teasing previews, new email and post conversion insights will give a clear picture of what’s working and what’s (literally) paying off.
Open and click rate: Track open rate and click rate to see how many fans are engaging with your emails. Pair this data with impressions for the post version to understand fans’ behaviors on and off Patreon.
Conversion insights: Track how much revenue and how many new members each email and post generates.
Now go start your newsletter!
From cultureletters and sketchletters to beatletters and deadletters, multi-hyphenate creators are transforming what newsletters can be on Patreon, using new tools that make it easier than ever to grow their audiences.

My only concern with your platform is that my content is not protected. I'm a writer and I want to start a web novel publication but your platform allows right clicking, text highligting and text copying so my concern is that my stories is going to end up on Amazon even before I can publish it there. This makes me wary of using your platform.
You're a writer? Really?
I’ve been using Patreon as a newsletter for a while, even before Patreon promoted its newsletter functionality, and I absolutely love the improvements to the editor. The option to send test emails is fantastic. But I’ve been having problems reaching my audience since the updates. This is the response I received from support team “When you publish a post set as Paid access—even if you choose to email a preview to non-paying members—Patreon currently only sends the notification email to members who have access (i.e., paid members or those in the selected tiers). Free members will not receive an email notification for locked/paid posts, even if you set the preview for all members.” Could someone please clarify this?
Problem is your website or your app isn’t working to post it claims not connected to my internet so can do anything to post anything I refresh and uninstall and reinstalled no change. So can’t try this new feature. Please fix my internet runs no issues on anything else online or in apps. Only Patreon’s.
I feel like I saw something recently about how to import an audience from Substack to Patreon, but I can't find it. I have a long-standing Patreon and started a Substack to supplement it a few years ago, but i've grown tired of that platform and would like to re-centralize here. Any tips?
I have the same question.
Cool great info
Patreon won't allow my W-9 info to be saved, it won't confirm that t was submitted, so my payouts are now paused. Is there anything I can do to submit my W-9?
Hi Nathan. Sorry to hear you're having trouble. We recommend reaching out to Patreon's support team, they'll be able to help troubleshoot and assist you directly. You can send them a message by submitting a request at the link below. Be sure to use the email address connected to your Patreon account to help expedite your request - https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Just used this feature, from what I can see, the email notification isn't being send out to my audience. I even edited the post and and turned on the "Notify members that you edited this post" feature, but still nothing. Any ideas what going on?
I had the same issue and reported it but I haven’t received a response yet. I hope they are working on solving it.
For starter creators, this feature is only useful if we could be inserted in a newsletter to people who are not in our audience yet, as Medium does.
It’s just crazy how long it takes to post a video on patreon… frankly. It feels like we are at the beginning of the internet in the 90s when it’s about video on the platform. Please fix this ASAP. I just posted a 20 sec vertical video and I’m not even sure it will upload because it was still loading when I pressed the publish button…I think I lost it. Frustrating.
Hi Lionel. We're sorry you're having trouble with video uploading. As a first step, we recommend checking the "Resolve an issue with Patreon Video" section of this Help Center article, which has some troubleshooting tips and recommended video specs for optimizing the processing of video uploads: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/6598555214477-Patreon-Video-overview#h_01GFRRZYKVM3YK456C0BHR416E If you're still experiencing issues after trying these recommendations, you can reach out directly to Patreon's support team by selecting "Submit a Request" button in the top right of the page, and our support team will assist you directly.
This will be great once it can do custom domains and include subscribers who aren’t on Patreon!
Hello, I just joined Patreon as a creator, and I'm doing my best to get rolling. I will welcome any advice coming my way. As a newbee I know it'd take me sometimes to master all the features, but I'm already so excited to be your new next door neighbor. I will appreciate all your support 🙏🏾
Doesn’t every post published on Patreon go to members inboxes if you have it set up to do so? I don’t quite understand what makes the ‘newsletter’ different from a ‘post’.
Actually don't understand the real utility and meaning of this post — is it about turning a single standard post into a newsletter with inline vids and images or something else? Somebody please enlighten me.
it is mainly about starting newsletter to get in touch with your audience more through different media options. Voice messages videos. Share with your audience. Newsletter could be received by all subscribers even free ones and once they get to know you more they could potentially became your patrons it is another touch point with your audience. That is how I see it
I love this new direction! The lack of newsletter functions was the only thing keeping me from fully focusing on Patreon. Please keep developing it!
The idea itself is good, but I tested it yesterday and sent it only to free members. However, it still appears on my page as a post, so paying members can see it, they just couldn’t read it, which can be frustrating from their side. It also feels a bit awkward to explain to paying members that the reason they can’t access something is simply because it’s not relevant to them. So I’ve now changed the settings so that paying members can see it as well. Maybe the best option would be if newsletters didn’t appear as posts on the page at all.
def stoked about this. i have been wanting to move away from substack but felt there were a few things i wished i could do on the patreon interface (like inline audio and video). would love to see if email import and/or archive upload will be an option in the near future
This may be helpful to us because we are an adult games creator and MailChimp blocked us on the grounds of advertising an adult product, even though the emails themselves contained no adult content. We have a list of people outside of our patrons who requested email updates from us, and we have no easy way to contact them in bulk. If we could import a list of email addresses and have Patreon send them courtesy messages asking them to become free members (preferably with a customizable text message from us explaining what's going on), I think that may be a good first step.
This is critical. Lots of people would love to move their newsletter to Patreon, but the lack of list important make that quite challenging.
Great because I was not moving to substack. I want to stay here. lol
i created a post in drafts for today. I guess you figured it would make a new letter, and I was considering it till I saw that everything I wrote was made into a link and when I tried to get into it I didn't have access. I canceled the post since it was gone and my attempt at a newsletter. I am very upset. Could someone please contact me about this?
“Email without the fees Send to as many people as you want, for free. You only pay when you start earning.” I’m curious about this part, the email mentions this but there’s nothing about newsletter fees in this post
Can I add contacts from other sources? like an e-mail list?
Nice! As other users, I am waiting for the option to import my Squarespace newsletter mailing list and to be sure that newsletter readers won't have to have a Patreon account and I will be happy to use this feature! I am sure it would be possible, it is on the platform Substack.
I want to know if I can duplicate an old newsletter post so I can easily reuse the format I already set up towards future newsletters. I have been creating newsletters on Patreon for a moment and having the option to duplicate would really cut down on the time it takes to create the next newsletter.
Love this idea! Would love to import my email list as well.
This!
Hadn't really thought of Patreon emails as "newsletters" but I guess it's the same basic thing... just yeah I agree with everyone asking for mailing list imports etc. And maybe custom domains since not everyone is gonna like seeing Patreon in their inbox? Also to preview it, does it still ask to email you a copy or is there a way to just SEE how it'll turn out? I never look at that aspect because I cbf to spam my own email every change I wanna check. Finally when it comes to paid content previews, it frustrates me that image blurring still shows way too much. At least when I embed YouTube videos, I can set a thumbnail that hides the important bits, but for my image posts, if I really want something to be a surprise, I either have to put decoy images first, or put everything in the body of the post, which takes too long. Have raised the issue before but it's still garbage.
I assume that this email won't reach members who have opted out of emails. So, basically, it's just another post with a fancy name?
How do I import my existing email list?
The question might be, "Can I?"
I’ve been using Patreon for my newsletters for a while and absolutely love it. It would be awesome though if each post could have its proper URL that could drive traffic from Google, as Medium articles do. Also, a way to keep it synced with other newsletters platform like Kit would be so helpful.
Can we import a preexisting mailing list? Without that, y’know.
My question, exactly. I need to reach the rest of my list.
How do you change the backround color?
I've said it to the support team, and published it in the feature requests but you seriously cannot have this feature set without being able to paste images from the clip-board. Screen snips are a huge part of my newsletter creation process. I would LOVE to move my business to patreon but with something as basic as that missing from your tool set, I absolutely cannot do it. The extra time it will take to snip, save, name, upload, select, that all adds up and makes me an old man. Talk to me when you can paste images in the editor.
This is great, except I have already a newsletter and I cannot import all these emails from mailchimp. I understand this could be an issue with spam, etc... but there should be an easy way to migrate contacts. Also I'm not sure these people would like to be on Patreon from the start...
Hi Franck, we hear you! We're exploring making it possible to import subscribers from your mailing list to Patreon. In the meantime, if this is something you'd be interested in for moving your current newsletter over to Patreon, you can indicate your interest in the form linked below and see you're eligible for a migration specialist to help you make the move: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=40484077203853
I'm super happy about this! I really didn't want to have an email list just for newsletters AND Patreon!! Woohoo!
Great! Now can you add custom domains so I can 100% move my newsletter off of Substack?
Hi Mark, we hear you! Stay tuned, as we'll have more to share soon but we're in the testing phase of custom domains as we speak. We'll share more here on Patreon for Creators about this and other new features as they're ready for wider release.
That's really great! Cannot wait to start moving my newsletter over here from Mailchimp! But how can we import our existing newsletter audiences onto Patreon, without neccessarly turning them into free members ???
Is it that possible?? I would love to import from mailchimp, but i dont know if the people must have some sort of patreon account (hopefully not -yet-)
