Taival Mechanics #11: Potion Brewing
Hey adventurers!
This month, we’re diving into (this exact wording "diving into" is important, just keep reading... 😉) something special—our magical potion brewing system! Rather than just crafting potions through a simple menu by clicking and waiting, we wanted to create something more hands-on and immersive. Potion brewing in Taival is all about collecting ingredients, discovering recipes, and mastering the art of crafting powerful elixirs!
Potion brewing starts with a cauldron—your personal alchemical workstation. Simply drop ingredients into the bubbling pot, and watch as your concoction takes form. Each ingredient has their own unique properties, however, you can’t just throw in random items and hope for the best—you need the right recipe to craft the strongest version of the potion.
Unlike some games where you can stumble upon potion effects by trial and error, in Taival, you need to find recipes first (at the moment, might be a subject to change if people feel that way!). Recipes are scattered across the world—hidden in ancient ruins, earned as quest rewards, or traded by witches and other knowledgeable people in Taival. Once you discover a new recipe, it’s yours to use anytime!
Once your potion is complete, you can bottle it up into a limited number of servings. A single brewing session won’t produce infinite drinkable potions, so you’ll need to manage your supply wisely.
What makes potions in Taival extra fun is how you use them: You can drink it yourself for an instant effect or throw a potion at a friend to make the potions explode on impact and spread their effect in an area! Also, to make potions have a more fun approach, you can jump into your own cauldron—that’s right! If you step into a potion-filled cauldron, you’ll absorb a stronger version of the potion’s effect, so basically you can play Obelix from the French cartoon, Asterix. You might even keep a cauldron brewing at home, ready for a power-up whenever you visit home!
With different ingredients producing different effects, potion brewing becomes a dynamic and rewarding system. Whether you’re crafting healing elixirs, strength boosts, or something… a little more chaotic, there’s always something new to discover.
What do you think? Should potions explode on impact, or should they only be drinkable? What kind of wild potion effects would you love to see in Taival? Should you have potion jacuzzis to hold more people? Let us know!
As always, thanks for your support—you make all of this possible!
