Art & Soundtracks #11: Jää
Hey everyone! This time I want to show you a different kind of audio track - this one is a environmental atmosphere as much as it is a musical track. When listening to this, where does it take you? I can feel a icy cold open cavern with icicles above me. The tone of the musical instrument here to me feels freezing cold (which I find fascinating, imagining a "cold" or "freezing" instrument by itself is very hard), amplified by the chilly wind atmosphere. The title "Jää" is as usual a Finnish word, but it has a double meaning. it's a homonym with the english equivalents of both "Ice" and "Stay" - quite metaphoric isn't it?
Composer's notes (artsy stuff)
This track came about really with the atmosphere first. After finishing the chilly wind audio, I was inspired to try out notes on top of it. I tried tons of different instruments and tones for the music, as I wanted it to be perfectly icy and fitting to the theme, but I think I hit the jackpot there, the result feels immersive! The melody here is very simple, I wanted to have it breathe with small breaks after each segment to make it almost sound like an echo in a cave, with the bouncy accompaniment supporting that sentiment.
