Connextras video with all the cycles
Hi all,
I forgot to post this for you. I don't think there's too much of a point uploading this directly to Patreon, but if you'd like to spend another almost-hour watching a dishwasher well you can check it out if you dare.

European here, out of curiosity i checked the manual for my dishwasher. the highest electricity usage in any cycle is 1.51kWh, highest water usage is 14.7l. For eco, the program we use the most, they claim 0.59kWh and 8l of water. Toilets normally have two buttons for half- and full flush, with 3 and 6l.
A new competitor for diswasher tablets.. we need a comparison 😂 https://www.miele.co.uk/c/powerdisk-automatic-dishwasher-detergent-4111.htm
Hi Alec, I'm a long time viewer and love your series on dishwashers. I purchased a bag of your affiliated detergent from Good Store to try it out. Unfortunately it's a bit of a disappointing product so I won't be buying it again unless changes are made. I do agree it is excellent at cleaning. But there's more to a product than its core function. The bag is very difficult to use because every time I close it I get a huge puff of choking dust out of it. I have to hold my breath when I close the bag and even then a bunch of fine particles come out due to the outrush of air. I would much prefer a pod style of the same detergent (I currently use various Cascade pods from Costco). I would love if there were pods that were half size so I could use 1 or 2 depending on how much cleaning I need. Anyway, I commend you on your research and efforts and I want to like this product but for now it just isn't for me. I've also sent this note to the Good Store team. Thank you!
Would really like if you could make an episode on hair dryers. I suspect the 11$ from Amazon and the 500$ from Dyson are substantially the same in different form.
I think what energy saver usually does is disable the needless heated dry, so it's one touch instead of two to select a different cycle and then select air dry.
needless?? I sure need it
When you are doing these time-lapses where you occasionally come into shot for a few seconds, I am waiting for one of those brief appearances in the middle where you are dressed as a chicken for no reason.
In case you repeat the experiment with some blanket or other thermal isolation over the machine: I would watch the live stream, enjoying the blinking lights with the chat....
We definitely need an OpenDishwasherController, with open firmware, as a retrofit option.
We absolutely need an open source dishwasher project. :)
At the point at which you're adding lights for each phase, it's a very short leap to adding your own microcontroller. You don't like the programming? Write your own ;)
Feel like I need to ask, as you established it's important to run the hot water before a cycle, but why doesn't the dishwasher do that itself? It really wouldn't be hard to program that in
Then it wouldn't get the energy star rating for the amount of water that it uses.
Pretty cool to see how the cycles work. I can't wait for the next saga in this appliance journey: Laundry detergent sheets vs. powder vs. liquid!
Just saw the tweet about Gain powder that went out 4 hours ago. So glad you're tackling this!
Could it be the half-assed rinse is maybe for flushing chunks out of the sieve, so they don't get baked onto dishes at the end of a cycle? It only has one pump, so it can't agitate the water without activating the bottom sprinkler. The reason the final heating is higher is so that the dishes dry better. My dishwasher explains that in the manual.
You're keeping me company tomorrow when I make a bunch of earrings, whether you like it or not.
