Depth of Field Bonanza - Shader Update March 2026
This update drops some of the most advanced stuff I have ever made. Lots of you have asked me to go more into detail on the tech behind the shaders, so I did just that. Hope you like it!
iMMERSE Pro: Depth Of Field
It has been completely rewritten from the ground up - sharper bokeh, smarter rendering, and in most scenes drastically faster than before, thanks to an extremely efficient software-based Variable Rate Shading (VRS) implementation.
The new autofocus is unnervingly accurate, it always focuses on what you want and solves all common issues shader-based autofocus usually has.
The end result is a DOF that visually beats Unreal Engine's DOF while staying competitive on performance. Depth of Field as a postprocess is a rabbit hole like none other and it's been a bit of a white whale for me, and this is the first version I am fully satisfied with.
iMMERSE Ultimate: Parallax Depth of Field
A new ReShade addon that interoperates with Otis_Inf's camera tools to render DOF at a quality unattainable with regular image filters. Virtually every digital photographer I know uses his freecam tools anyway. Even though this is not the only one of its kind, Parallax DOF features (imho) much better GUI, a physically accurate implementation of chromatic aberration and the ability to render progressively.
Watch the video, the tech behind the sampling is far more complex than you'd think.
What else? Convolution bloom got a minor upgrade in terms of speed and quality, more stuff in the pipeline. A new (free oOoOoOo) GI shader on the horizon as well.
Files on the discord as usual. When updating, make sure to delete all the old shaders of mine to avoid conflicts.

hate to be a pain but strugglin here, the discord connect button opens a dialogue, i click authorize, then it just closes and i never get into the server I just want the raytracing for GAMMA, man

Hello there - all of this looks amaxing, but when I try to go to discord, it says unable to accept the invite. What sould I do? Am I missing something?

Hi, I did everything but it still doesn't appear. I can't join the Discord server. In the Patreon settings, the part about connecting to Discord says it's not connected to Pascal Gilcher.

For others who see this, go to Membership and scroll down to quick links, there's a link to the Discord which hosts the download. You'll need to authorise discord to connect to your patreon and then you should automatically get added to it.

i tried to enter the discord but the server is not showing up on my dicord app
cant join the server, i hit connect and it flashes a join button before going right back to saying connect again, i feel very frustrated because i spent 9 bucks on nothing

Yummmmmh, optimisation.... (˶˃ᆺ˂˶) Amazing work! I hope we'll see some more optimisations for RTGI too, some of these seem useable for it =)
