Knife Girls Finish Last

Any fans of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger out there? Lol..liars. Nobody remembers them. If I was still doing #ThrowbackThursday this would be a solid candidate. Although I hear Dagger is in Marvel Rivals now, so maybe there is a following. And honestly, I’m not surprised.

As mismatched team-ups go, this one actually worked better than it should have. Sure, it had the 80s written all over it. He was an inner-city black guy, a product of gang violence. And she was a rich, beautiful white girl who ran away from home because, her life was... too awesome, I guess? Anyway, some scientist performed experiments on them and bam! Superpowers. He got “powers of darkness” and she got “powers of light,” which, as I recall, mostly meant shooting “light daggers.”

And in the 80s, they naturally used those powers to fight drug dealers, because...1980s. You have to understand, in the 80s Reagan had the first War on Drugs (Nancy, not Ron), so that meant you could be reading a comic book or watching a TV show and, for no reason, Mr. T o someone would just show up out of nowhere to tell kids to stay off drugs.

Anyway their team-up didn’t last very long, as I recall. Or maybe it did and it just got erased from my memory. About the only thing I do remember is the wonderful costume she had with that terrific dagger-shaped cut-out. Exaggerated somewhat here, but well… a kid can dream.
