1.11 Week 2 report

Hey guys! This week we released the 1.10.1 version, and made progress on our two current objectives:

1). Version 1.11 (early release target: 31 Jan) will add facial expressions to the avatar

Our artist Victoria is hard at work designing a range of avatar emotes. It’s complex work, but the early designs are looking greta!

2). Version 1.12 (early release target: Feb 28) will be another big story update, covering Kate’s university experience.

We’re still in the storyboarding phase for the uni content – I’m hoping to finish the storyboards next week.

We’re departing from the 1.6 university experience in a few ways that I’m really excited about! I feel like I’m still experimenting with the best way to write sex scenes in the new engine, but some of the storyboard scenes are shaping up GRETA. I’m really looking forward to getting this out to you.

Other stuff

We also made technical progress with the character sheet and with the return of pale & olive skin tones. More on those soon!

Namibia Josh scene

We had lots of feedback asking how to unlock the Josh option in the “three in a bed” scene in Namibia.

The short answer is you can’t; the point of the greyed-out dialogue option was to convey that the heroine is sexually attracted to Pablo, but not Josh (who’s firmly in the friend zone).

That said, we part-developed a more complex scene where the heroine could seduce Pablo, Josh, or both of them. This is the scene that slowed down delivery of 1.10, because I couldn’t make it feel believable; it felt like the heroine was doing it because it was in the script, not because it’s something she realistically would have done. This is something we might revisit or improve in the future, though, so I’m interested in everybody’s ideas on this! Let us know here or on Discord.

Okay, that’s it for this week! I’m planning to spend most of next week writing and storyboarding, so I’ll be a happy crab. I hope you guys all have a fun week ahead, and I’ll be back with an update next week.

Like some people have said, this is a choice based game. So we should be allowed to choose who our heroine is attracted to. Even in real life, relationships can change over time, and it's possible for those who started out as just friends to grow into something more. So there should be a way to have the protagonist get a scene with Josh in Nambinia. As for an idea on how to make that happen in a reasonably realistic way, perhaps an extra scene, before the events in the hotel, where the protagonist and Josh have a one-on-one conversation, where they discuss various things, and give the player the option to have the heroine see Josh in a different light than before afterward.

I'd say in a game it is -always- better to have no sex scene at all, than to have a "realistic" one, so why have Namibia in game at all.
What's the point of "realistic" I just don't get it, I mean how hard is it to turn off a computer, the power button is right there, clearly visible, it is so easy to find realistic 24/7, there is absolutely no need to ruin virtuality with it.

In a game an UNrealistic scene is always far more believable than any realistic one anyway.
How could one possibly believe anything to be realistic when you cannot even touch it in real life?
It's like being Stallone in Demolition Man, expecting the real thing and then getting those blasted VR goggles from Bullock

Well, it's good you clarified the situation with the Namibia Josh scene, it was useful ... Wish you a productive week!

Isn't the easy answer to Josh that him and Pablo take turns to guard the room outside the door or something so there is nothing to grey out in the first place? But being someone from the UK who grew up with girls like this they would be doing threesome before they are 18 let alone on holiday. I realise you can't write anything controversial, but it would make sense to especially if she is easy or her experience is high enough. If anything it is more likely that the blocker would be if the guys don't want to share or don't want sloppy seconds if she doesn't use condoms; but again you could use that as a way to introduce her to anal. One of the reasons I have liked this game is the realistic amount of sex someone promiscuous would have, there's no need to tone that down even if not every event is fleshed out or it takes longer to write.

I really, *really* disagree with having Josh as a greyed out choice for the reason you listed. The way this game has been set up is that the heroine is us, the player, not a set character with her own wants and desires. We should be able to decide who she's attracted to, or who she beds and doesn't bed, and why. Unless the story calls for some railroading (which it really shouldn't in a choice based game, IMO, but I know that some is usually unavoidable) and in that case we shouldn't be taunted with an option we can never choose. That's just cockteasing the player, and not in a good way. If you're not going to let us pick an option, then that option shouldn't be showing up as a choice at all.

Hmmm. It's a tough one. Because while I agree with you that the player should decide whether they are actually attracted to a person, the game needs to convey whether or not they are supposed to be conventionally attractive. It's not an easy balance.

Maybe she starts with Pablo, notices Josh is awake and, being a kind-hearted soul with the demeanor of Mother Theresa, asks if he wants to join in? Blueballing someone that hard is, after all, rude.

Well, perhaps she is shaken up from the incident in her room and wants a drink to calm down and sleep? Alcohol could help make it feel believable.

I think it would be pretty simple to get Kate at least a little attracted to Josh. Just include a small scene earlier on where they have a conversation at a campfire or some small scale event where he steps up a little bit. Just something to help her see him in a different light that at least gets her thinking about it.
