WOTM: The Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism
Hey gang!!! I'm trying to get stuff up early this month so I don't have to work on my birthday (31st).
Patronage is down over the last four months. I suspect people are being hit hard by this bad economy. So make sure you're telling your friends and neighbors about the Deity gospel!
In other news, I'll have two more Mr. Deity videos coming for you (one about David, the other about Elijah). I'll post the David video this month, and the Elijah video on the 1st. I'm really happy with these scripts. Jimbo and I will be shooting them next week. So stay tubed!
In this video, we're looking at Christian Philosopher, Alvin Plantinga's, Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism. In a nutshell, Alvy argues that under naturalism, we can't trust our cognitive faculties because natural selection has selected for survival rather than truth. He's undeniably correct about that. But I don't think that means what he thinks it means.
Thank you all again for your continued support. I couldn't do this without you. Extra indulgences for everyone! Sin away!!!! And enjoy! B

Brilliant, as always, Brian.
Oops... I asked why an all powerful, all knowing, all loving God would have taken my lovely wife of 30 years in her prime with a rare form of cancer. There was never a more loving person with more friends who brought love to this world than her. He told me that "no on can know the mind of God." I told he to "read between the lines," if you get my drift. Anyway, enough said. Go science!!!
As Billy said, only the good die young. So sad to hear of your loss. I can't imagine the pain. I've been very lucky in that regard (knock on wood).
Sorry, I hit the send bar before I was done with my story. The Devil told me to come visit after my death with 2,000 of the worst joke know to man because if anyone laughed at one of my jokes I would be getting what he called the "hell treatment." After all hell is not for entertainment. I am working on my list of jokes. In the meantime I asked a question of my Christian friend Randy.
I love you Mr. D....I consider myself a Definitional atheist meaning that I am waiting for anyone to give me a definition of the word "GOD" that makes any sense to me. When I get that definition I promise I will do my best to decide whether I believe in an entity that matches up with that definition. So far nothing. I am a recovering Jew who agrees that the Tribal War God of Abraham is a bad actor. And I have nothing good to say about the Christian God, the monster who created a world where if you don't take his crucified son as your lord and savior you will rot in hell for eternity. I was once told I was going to hell by one of these Christians so I called down there and asked the Devil if he had a gig for me. I told him I would come "down" and do standup.
I've experience Hellish standup. LOL! 😂
Happy Birthday!
Thanks so much, gitarzan (love that name!)! Do you play?
Anyone else getting "Sign in to confirm you’re not a bot"? Tried 2 different browsers and I am signed in.
D'oh!!!
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. However, I have to take issue with one of your background images. When you were listing the science categories, you displayed a zodiac image for astronomy. That image is more of an astrology symbol which is not scientific. There are much better images to represent the field of astronomy.
Good catch! I was wondering who would be sharp enough to notice. You get front row seats to the apocalypse!!! Well done!
What discourages me is that so many people, especially men, remain controlled by evolved Paleolithic genetic proclivities for aggression, violence, selfishness, competition, hoarding, conquering. Humans still behave with "chimpanzee politics," without taking a step back from those urges and allowing their cerebral cortex to contemplate actual reality. Those primitive instincts are still so strong, so alive-and-well, that they stubbornly trust in an Alpha Chimp who tells them to dispute what scientists are trying to teach us about the world, others, themselves, and… that gawdamn Chimp.
I'm coining a new word — "Chimpolitics". Enjoy!
Oh, and Happy Birthday! Way to celebrate, with another brilliant post! Birthday boys rule!
Happy birthday Brian! I think I have a worthy mantra for living life: Don’t believe EVERYTHING you think! Works for me, anyway.
I only figured out that my thoughts were not mine when I was diagnosed with SPS. It suddenly became so clear that my thoughts were merely my genes, etc... expressing themselves. So I don't believe everything I think. I don't even know who's doing the thinking!
Bri-Bri, what Plantinga didn't point out is that science, of which evolution is part, is not a process that seeks "truth." This is a shifting the goalposts argument and, as such, should be ignored.
