If you were an author, you'd understand the power of juxtaposition and audience expectation. I think the shock of the car was meant to offset the anticipation of a completely different type of stress. Similar to episode 8 of season 2, the shock of being bought back down to earth when your mind is in the clouds is a healthy reality check, not just for Mob, but for the viewers as well. It's not that it has to be intense or dangerous, just something real that invokes a visceral sense of consideration, that life is messy and things don't always go to plan. If it were a straightforward path to rejection, it would subvert the themes of maturity and practicality this story has worked so hard to maintain.
