i cant wait for the next episode omg
the fan base calls him “Kenny” if you want to call him that
guys, the game says you get killed if there’s no change in your points within 19 days. so when megumi says there could be a way to avoid killing it has something to do with the points. he intends to put a rule where you don’t have to kill someone in order to gain points, i.e. TRANSFERRING of points within one another
Honestly, this episode feels perfect for a Gintama parody. I'm not trying to say that exposition, lore drops, and bottle episodes are bad, but there's a reason why that whole "JJK fans can't read" meme went viral. 😅 Like, it can be really, REALLY hard for an anime to adapt heavy exposition scenes while managing to keep the audience invested (especially when it's a light novel like Slime), so I think the JJK anime team deserves a lot of credit for pulling it off so creatively. I really think it'd be funny to see a parody of this, though. Maybe spend an entire episode explaining the rules to a game, then have the entire game happen off screen. 🤣
Could we all get a diploma on Culling Game rules now?
Milena, you had it right the first time. The only people capable of healing others are Yuta, Shoko, and Sukuna
I left a similar comment in the last episode. A mistranslation in episode 2 implies that Yuki also has that ability, when she in fact does not.
A thought I’ve always had about this episode is how Tengan talks about fate. Tengan believes he’s connected to the six eyes and the star plasma vessel because of it and based on history it’s true. Toji apparently goes around fate by killing Riko which was out of even Kenjaku’s control but sets up his plan perfectly especially with how it affects Geto and his eventual death. There’s an argument there that no maybe it was fated for this to happen and Tengan constantly living due to his technique could also be against fate. Tengan is the reason curses and sorcerers are mainly in Japan and why this happened there. The barriers have always been there for most sorcerer lives so they now rely on them rather than having people who specialise in them and improve because they have to. Tengan is one of the things holding this evolution back as well so maybe it’s fate’s way of telling Tengan he’s lived too long. It’s a theory that is always on my mind when I watch this episode even if it’s half baked and has little relevance but with the theme’s of jjk being about how old conservatives hold back the youth from growing I think there could be something there. Especially with how Toji could have been a special grade sorcerer if he was accepted by jujutsu society but instead the old views of the Zenin clan held that back and caused this instead
all I can say is that the way fate and cursed energy interact is very open ended. There is logic to it, but trying to explain it with one specific view of the story doesn't do it justice. And I don't think every theme or characterization is the direct result of either of those two. Its more like the way people are effected is based on how they personally interact with cursed energy and fate, like how Mahito told Kenjaku maybe every technique is its own world view. If domain expansion is the ultimate form of one's own world view, than nature itself is the antithesis of that, and cursed energy lies somewhere in the middle, with fate being introduced at a catch all term when there's no better way to explain it. I believe there is actual logistical progression of how the fate works, but it isn't so tangible that breaking it down makes it any more relevant.
wish I could just be severed until Friday
There's a part of this I think most people brush past, but I totally get why. Kenjaku isn't just restricted by his cursed energy, its also the way he's using Mahito's technique. Most technique's are refined in such a way they don't waste cursed energy, and many techniques allow the user to recall the energy used when they are done with it. Take Megumi for example, when he is done using one of his ten shadows, he gets to take that energy back into himself. But there is nuance to it. If Megumi alters his ten shadows at all, or has them use their abilities, that energy is used up and he can't get it back, like when the elephant shoots water or the big owl uses electricity. So the idea of being able to control how much energy is wasted is just as important as having enough energy to do something in the first place. In the case of Kenjaku, Geto's technique merges the curses with his own cursed energy, but it's not like complete assimilation, otherwise the curses would loose what makes them so effective. The technique can control what the curses do and doesn't waste a lot of energy when they are summoned and recalled. The exception is Uzumaki, the ultimate expression of the technique. It enables the user to directly use the technique of curses without needing to summon the curse itself. The only problem is that none of the energy used in those techniques goes back to the user. So its not just an issue of Kenjaku not being able to change everyone with Mahito's technique. That would be the most direct way to start his plan. He doesn't have enough energy to do it to everyone, and even if he did, he wouldn't get any of his cursed energy back, which would leave him extremely defenseless. The culling game is an elaborate way of compelling everyone's cursed energy to be funneled towards a single ritual, which is another way of saying highly advanced jujustu that isn't dependent on one source of power. It's like how we learned the Black Rope from africa was made from countless people pouring their energy into one thing. If normal sorcerers can work together long enough, they can make something that rivals the power of Gojo. If very powerful sorcerers all work together, they might be able to change the very nature of cursed energy itself. This episode explains that Kenjaku would obtain Tengen so the entire ritual wouldn't be a waste. Tengen could refuse to assimilate, so Kenjaku has to make it happen. But before Tengen is even a factor, the cursed energy required for assimilation with Tengen on that scale is needed. Its the same thing as just using Mahito's technique on everyone. Kenjaku only altered 1000 people to become sorcerers. People don't have to be a sorcerer to assimilate with Tengen now, but Kenjaku doesn't have enough energy to make the assimialtion happen even if he does capture Tengen, so the culling game will enable enough energy for that purpose without leaving Kenjaku completely helpless. There is no one who has enough cursed energy to change the entire world by themselves.
Excellent summary and analysis
Girls just call him Kenny like the whole ENG fandom does haha
Going to be real with you guys, the only important stuff was the discussion about Kenjaku's plan and everything surrounding the alignment of events to make it possible. The stuff about the culling game I legit just skipped over. I only justify it as giving the animators some respite before dealing with the rest of the season. So it doesn't surprised me how quickly purists jumped at people for not enjoying this episode when the fact is, you're gargling all those rules and jumping on anyone that didn't want to look at the PowerPoint when those rules will either be ignored, forgotten, loopholes found, and/or broken anyways. Not to mention, the show will just remind you when they're relevant in the moment as anime often do. So just found that part about the community being toxic when it came to this episode. And spoilers... They literally have unspoken rules like anyone that enters the zones will get spawned randomly in it that they didn't tell you about.
I think this episode serves to get the viewer into the headspace of the characters. I think it's silly to be upset that more information than was strictly necessary was given. Yes, the culling game rules is an absolute information dump, but so is it for the characters as well. Rather than simply dumping them on you or drip feeding them to you, I think seeing the characters work through them initially was the best way to adapt this part of the story. It is a shame that this episode is merely exposition, but I think the rest of the season is able to succeed so well because of it.
Maki going "That's impossible" the second Yuta says Hakari can be stronger than him was so adorable. Yuta is so humble but he has Maki to say it how it is 😊 Also Megumi saying "that man could resolve everything on his own" I miss Gojo
Damn right. That’s Maki's mans right there. She gon' say it how it is. 💪🏽😊
70-30 you say? 🤔
The best ppt presentation ever!
Tengen is in fact the narrator
When you guys were talking about how Sukuna and Kenjaku were just old ass bitches refusing to die and that they lived long enough, it reminded me of the scene in Nobara's backstory in episode 3, where there is a somewhat random shot of a bridge with a sign that says "Warning: this bridge is no longer safe to use due to deterioration from age." So the story is about ancient people who refuse to get out of the way, and want to bring back their golden age of jujutsu sorcery, and younger people who are just trying to live their lives without being crushed by the giant boulder the older people have set in motion? Hmm I wonder what Gege is trying to say about older and younger generations today
I mean it also comes up in many other ways too, Gojo vs the higher ups regarding Yuta and Yuji, Maki and Mai growing up in their incredibly conservative family, etc
Before the girls started this show i would have said that it would not have suited them at all. I'm so happy to see how well, even with how complex things get around this point of the show, the girls are doing with it! Can't wait for the next episode(s).
Would you like some JJK with your exposition, sir?
First of all, I hope there will be a happy high school anime after JJK for some balance. :) Kenjaku kind of explained his plans at the end of season two, he wants to create something beyond his own understanding, he wants to see the sort of "evolution" play out just for "intellectual" curiosity and it's also worth mentioning that Tengen doesn't necessarily would happen, they are not all knowing. The idea of "humans emerging, loss of individuality" kind of appears in a couple of anime for some reason. Furthermore,I love this episode, full yap fest clarifying what's happened and what the goal is from the perspective of an ancient being. The "destiny" Toji's significance in the story is so important, he broke "destiny" by defeating Satorou and Geto while being ostracized by the Zenin clan and jujutsu society. He really highlights a fatal flaw of the power structures in place and being "free" of cursed energy is an interesting description. Lovely to see Choso and Yuji's bond and the goats Takaba and Hakari appearing!!! Meanwhile the story as a whole kind of takes a turn from season two which starts with SatoSugu discussing the importance of the strong protecting the weak and how to solve the issue of curses as a whole by Yuki and Suguru. Season two feels like a critique of the system through Suguru, Nanami and the whole Shibuya incident but season three seams to turn away from this which feels unfortunate but kind of normal in shounen. :/ Love the season though! although season two feels like the heart of the show to me. <3
So the girls watched 4 consecutive episodes in a row?! Cause they're wearing the same shirt since they did Season 2 finale. I hope they don't do 5 or 6 in a single recording session cause that can affect the quality of their reactions. Though I will say Takaba is one of the greatest additions to JJK, period. The undisputed GOAT comedian.
Todo is a 3rd year
Todo goes to Kyoto school though. Hakari is the first time we hear about a 3rd year from the Tokyo school.
genuine peak is coming
The girls have accepted a binding vow - in order to remember the name Kenjaku, it must now be Kenyaku. After all, it's what they've decided, so it's better.
This ep can definitely be overwhelming, but istg the rules get brought back up whenever they’re relevant and exemplified😭 You won’t need to remember all of this word for word!!
Guess I'll have an early lunch today.
*LM uploads super early* Everyone: “What the hell is happening in Chicago?
Next episode is gonna be so good
omg i just finished 3x2 let's goo!
Kenjaku(Brain's name) is a yet another buddhist term meaning "rope". In Buddhism it was the sacred rope that a goddess used to guide all living beings to salvation and enlightenment. Also one thing to correct about Yuji's mother from last episode: Kenjaku didn't manipulate Yuji's father with another body. He took over the dead body of Yuji's mother and had Yuji with his father. Grandpa is surprised that she is still alive but warns Yuji's father that something is clearly wrong here.
Having to wait another three days for episode 4 is tuff
