Wow, you can guess which animes have you seen before by the teories you are forcing in the plot.

I recently discovered that the copyright holder is blocking some of your videos (Friren, JJK) for one specific country (Russia). If you've ever wondered why people are asking where the videos are that are publicly available on your channel, that's why.

If my eyes do not deceive me, you were able to recover the Episode 1 video? Just the Episode 2 one missing then in that case. I'm not sure if that means the claim was removed or just YouTube allowed you to edit down the footage further, but congratulations either way.

Regarding Angels. Please rewatch the roundtable conversation in the beginning of 2nd episode closely. And this isn’t the show you can talk over as much as you do. Otherwise, refreshing to see a genuine human reaction as opposed to drone-like 'WHAT'S GOING ON' you get everywhere else. Well done. P.S. instrumentality is in fact a horribly mistranslated/misleading term for the purpose of this plot. Older translations had Human Complementation Project, which is a precise translation from 補完 (Hokan) and lines up with the original intent. Complementation is a real concept in genetics. Look it up. That is all I can say without going into spoiler territory. As for 'instrumentality' being used in all modern official translations - that is a rather unfortunate misattribution error due to a certain book.

They mentioned that they wished they had written information down early on so they could refer to it, but that it was too late. Rewatching scenes is definitely good in this anime because it's so short and big pieces of information are often said casually. Ah yes the best character, that’s right it’s Kaji

That's one of the most delayed reactions I've ever seen to Asuka's introduction scene. It took a minute to realize she is an Eva pilot, haha. "She's sunshine" I don't think Toji would agree since she slapped him in the face, twice.

I don't think it matters that much, but Misato is actually 29 not 25.

29 is practically 25 don't you know?

"There is no chance aliens impregnated humans and those are the children" that's actually the plot of an old movie. I forgot the title but it's in a small city and a bunch of women give birth to like 8 children with white hair at the same time. It was very creey

The most popular character. Who didn’t have her as an avatar in the message boards back in the day?

j
jerry · July 21, 2026

I thought I've read that Rei was the most popular, tho your message board memories jibe with mine. I wonder if Rei was more popular in Japan and Asuka was more popular in the West/English-speaking countries? Kinda interesting to think about considering their divergent personas

Also one of my favorite moments in this episode is how cool Misato is acting until kaji shows up immediately throwing her off😂. That combined with the scene of them playing footsie under the table, does a great job of telling us what their relationship to each other is like.

Love her introduction this episode, and what she brings to the show overall. She’s a perfect addition to the show and she brings a lot of energy and straigforwardness that the show really needed, and I think her shinji and rei make a good trio and really balance eachother out. Crazy to think that a character of her level wasn’t even in the show until episode 8.

Asuka’s arrival marks a major turning point for the series. Up until now, Evangelion has largely centered on Shinji’s isolation, Rei’s mystery, and the increasingly tense atmosphere surrounding NERV. Asuka immediately disrupts that dynamic. She is loud where Rei is quiet, confident where Shinji is hesitant, and constantly seeks attention and recognition. Her introduction was intentional, as Hideaki Anno wanted to bring a more energetic dynamic to the series after the first six episodes. Asuka’s two surnames reflect her mixed Japanese and German heritage. Hideaki Anno also chose them as references to two World War II aircraft carriers, the Japanese Sōryū and the American USS Langley, continuing Evangelion‘s recurring practice of naming many of its characters after warships. Likewise, the flagship of the United Nations carrier battle group is named "Over the Rainbow", a reference to the 1939 song from the movie "The Wizard of Oz". I don’t know if you remember that storyline from Monster, but it is also the song associated with Dr. Tenma’s defense attorney, Fritz Verdemann, whose father owned a radio station before dying in prison under suspicion of spying for East Germany during the Cold War. The Angel introduced here is Gaghiel, the Sixth Angel. The name is generally understood to derive from Dagiel (also transliterated Daghiel or Gagiel), an angel mentioned in the 14th century Kabbalistic work Berit Menuḥah (Book of Rest) by Abraham ben Isaac of Granada. In that work, Dagiel is described as the angel appointed over the fish. This makes Gaghiel one of the few Angels in Evangelion whose design closely reflects its traditional association, appearing as an enormous aquatic predator. This episode also introduces Eva Unit-02, the first Evangelion explicitly designated as a Production Model. As Asuka explains to Shinji, Unit-00 and Unit-01 are the Prototype and Test Type, while Unit-02 was designed from the outset as a fully operational combat unit rather than an experimental machine. Ritsuko also notes that, during the battle, Shinji and Asuka briefly achieved record synchronization values with Eva Unit-02. Remarkably, they reached this in only seven seconds, despite having never piloted together before. The episode also introduces an embryonic form carried by Kaji in secret. After delivering the specimen to Gendo, Kaji remarks that it is still alive and identifies it as “the key to the Human Instrumentality Project.” Gendo then identifies it as “Adam, the first human being.” Kaji also suggests that it, rather than Eva Unit-02, had been the true target of Gaghiel’s attack on the fleet.
