I absolutely loved this episodes discussion and how personal it seemed for both of them, especially Milena. But I think it's a shame they didn't get into Nobara's opinion on the subject of societal/familiar pressure. I love her complete rejection of it and would have loved to hear the girls opinion on her mindset.

I like that the episode starts with Nobara and how she views her place as a woman in jujutsu society and it is shown as a triumphant moment. But then it swaps to the sisters and it shows how unfortunately some people can't just walk away and proclaim they're above the patriarchy; everyone actually can't. These factors are always there but that does not mean that one approach or another is invalid

Ah, such a great episode! I'm glad y'all enjoyed it so much. It's one of the best of season one, in my opinion. Maki is great, and honestly so is Mai, at least by virtue of their story. I think Momo's explanation of the Zen'in clan is the first time the show mentions the idea that techniques can be inherited, but I could be wrong about that. I don't recall if y'all had ever wondered about that. Mai actually has a cursed technique that sounds really strong in theory. But like Gojo says, a sorcerer's power is a large amount "innate talent," which I think you can say is just strength. If Mai was very strong and had tons of cursed energy, she might be able to do more with her technique, but she doesn't even want to be a sorcerer to begin with. I'm glad you connected Mechamaru and Maki. I think the show will provide more information about how all that works but it's a good callout. Also, Lola floated a theory about twins in JJK in passing when Maki and Mai first showed up that I don't think y'all remembered. The Zen'in clan members in this episode said that twins were a bad omen, so I thought you might return to that. I'm also glad that you immediately connected the Zen'in clan not just to Megumi but his sister, and how she might be treated in that environment. I know it's not always easy to remember names between all the shows (especially when characters' surnames aren't used often), but even though many characters refer to Megumi as a member of the Zen'in clan, he uses the surname Fushiguro at school.

The reason zenin clan keeps interfering with maki's promotion might be because they dont see her as a sorcerer. Because that they use sorcery to become strong, they feel like if they let maki(who doesn't use sorcery) to become stronger than them, then this basically invalidates their existence. I think this also the reason whey they forced mai to put effort. Because mai and maki are twins They may have been thought to have the same potential. And if mai who had the same potential as maki became stronger than her in the future, then this proves their argument that sorcery>physical might.  In short,zenin clan is insecure asf

Probably the most underrated episode of the whole anime, love it so much

I love the Zen'in clan leaders response to Maki saying she'll be the head of the Zen'in clan. "Then I'll put you through ordeals befitting that!" They'd never accept it if a woman was just appointed. But a woman who's done 5 times more than any man wouldn't be able to be denied.

This was the episode I have been WAITING for. It was such a shock to me when I watched this episode for the first time. I couldn’t believe how deep and layered they made this relationship. That’s my favorite thing about this anime, all the characters feel very layered.

One important thing about Maki and Mai's relationship is that Maki being the emotional support for her sister is also something personally difficult for her. her sister becomes dependent on her, but who was Maki's own emotional support? She was just a child who needed to be the "mature" one in the situation. sad story.

Real humans said this show had no story that its all fights

I didn't appreciate this episode enough the first time i saw it as much as i do now. This doesn't really seem like the classic "hateful" sibling relationship like let's say Zuko. There's clearly love there. My favorite thing about this episode is Mai saying "Liar" to Maki can be interpreted in different ways. Is she a liar because she didn't stay by Mai's side when she promised she would? Or is she a liar because she DID in fact do all this to pursue a better environment for Mai to live in and yet she lies and says she is doing this for herself?
